Hey all, I have been to botanicas in the past and one time paid a lot of money for a sub par shell reading that was based off what the woman thought i was like (stereotype basedon how i was dressed/how i look/ like i had torn up hands and face messed up bc i got attacked by a pitbull a few weeks earlier- she proceeded to tell me i was recently in a fight with a man/ boyfriend and i need to leave him and not get into physical fights with people anymore, to just keep my mouth closed and leave “him”...:but there was no such person just the dog.I have now come to consider that perhaps botanicas are only favorable for those who actively practice within that tradition. I understand that, as why would a botanica priestess help someone who is not in active communication with their spiritual guides, etc. But I am someone who looks at all different types of practice regardless of association, as i do the same with religion as that is how i have always done . But , I wonder if that is frowned upon in certain circles, like I am being offensive just going into a botanica asking for help without being active in that custom. I do not speak Spanish and am typically the only customer not conversing in it. I never thought that would be a big deal but the more i study sociology, i am more aware that perhaps I am being disrespectful to their store just even coming inside. I am very drawn to shamans, priestesses, and the like and wish i could speak all languages but i do not. I am polite, and mean no harm or disrespect. Anyways, any advice appreciated!
