I didn`t want to hog the post as I had already shared my onion. It truely is the unfolding of a lifetime search. Lindas childish wonder (and I do BELIEVE Gooberz is autobiographical!) is tuned in to the uni-verse and all her senses are inhanced at this young age. Right from page 17, Linda made me believe in faeries, elves, gnomes, druids and the possability of puppies and kittens falling from the sky . The majickal wonder of childhood, it`s spiritual memory and innocence comes alive and helps one re-member the majick. juniperb IP: Logged |

I used to save the satin and velvet ribbons to tie in my hair before I jumped to sit in his lap in the old rocking chair because Dadoo was the only, only one who ever told me my straight hair ... was pretty IP: Logged |

I would contribute more but I have just come off a week of Pearl Jam shows (3 cities in a week) and right now I am still in PJ World (in my head, that is) ... the other place I like to go when I am not in Lindaland. When I come down off of Cloud 9 I will try to focus on Gooberz again.Heidi IP: Logged |

Morgana,Just for a week ... Irvine, San Diego and Las Vegas. If I had the money I would go to every show of the tour, but alas, I can only afford to live in PJ World one week out of the year ... *sigh*. What a wonderful week though! Heidi IP: Logged |

Oh Morgana, Sorry to hear that ... I was on my own and ended up giving my extra tickets away (3rd row one night and 11th row another - I broke up with my b/f a week before the shows.) Next tour plan on a vacation to the US and you can go with me ... next time I'm going to try to go to San Franciso and Phoenix also. If I win the lottery I will be retiring in PJ World ... hehe .. oooooh Heidi... Why is it always this way? PJ used to be one of my favourite bands when I was still following the scene and I still like them very much, it's just that now I don't have favourites anymore. I'd really like to go with you to those concerts though Sorry to hear about your break-up, I hope it wasn't too tough on you OK, Juniperb, now I'll shut up. Sorry! IP: Logged |

I've always felt that Canto One could be carved up and served in a lesson on poetry to a HS class without much difficulty from the book-burners of the world.IP: Logged |

Randall...everyone I just began my 3rd (or is it my 4th?) read of Gooberz the other day and finished Canto One today. So for what it's worth, here's my input, lol. It's true...this first one gets you "hooked". I've always loved Linda's prose in all her books, but this is so special. Her ability to describe her childhood memories re the experience in the garden with the sweet peas during the thunderstorm...so vivid I could practically feel, hear and smell these things myself. Also, reading about her memories of her grandparents...took me back to my own memories of mine...sigh. I never knew my maternal grandfather because he died when my Mother was only 16, but based on all she used to tell me about him, I like to think he would have been a lot like Linda's "Dadoo". My maternal grandmother died when I was 11 (I ADORED her) so Linda's Nanoo reminded me of her (she was so SOFT to hug). On my Father's side...my grandmother defintely had things in common with Linda's Nana, and my grandfather, Linda's Dado. I, too...spent lots of time at their house overnight and reading Linda's descriptions brought back to me all the wonderful times I had as a child there. It was almost eerie how similar the memories were! But then again maybe not a surprise because right at the beginning she says, "this book may -- or may not -- have been written about me but it very well may have been written about you." Quite! And that's what makes Gooberz magical. IP: Logged |

greetings, all (and how you doin, Randall?) I read Gooberz back in 1997, and wanted to say that lately it's been a constant bedside companion for me, with several of its hidden messages now luminous on the page... (yes, folks that's how it works - the book IS magic!) Anyway, I've been doing what I like to call "search and rescue," which is simply asking a question, (or FEELING out a question) and then popping open the book to a particular passage.. it's amazing how well it works! Out of all passages, however, that tiny phrase, "shh... be still, my love, be still... somewhere, a clock is timing us..." has brought me more solace in the past few months (years? decades? centuries?) than anything ever has... And now, as I read this post, and see the quote, "I died unexpectedly while I was sleeping and the last thing I remember is the sound of angels weeping as they mourned my loss in Heaven, whispering a final blessing to protect my immortal soul on its descent down into hell a lonely prison of three dimensions...on a spinning ball called Earth.." I am reminded of a particularly touching X-Files episode (I'm an old fan of that show, especially Mulder ) wherein Mulder looks to the sky and says, "maybe those shooting stars are souls, Scully... star lights, looking for home." c'est magnifique, non? anessene IP: Logged |

It was a great idea to start our read on Valentines Day since Linda thought that LOVE IS ALL - she knew it!! However we did not account for those of us who had romantic rendezvous to attend to. I shall be reading Canto 1 tonight, before I go to sleep, by candlelight. LMB IP: Logged |

No biggie, because we are staying on this Canto until everyone is ready to move on. We can move on ourselves in reading, but still hold back discussions on the following Cantos until everyone is ready for them. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." bump indeed! Is anyone else just having problems finding "time" to do this? I am so frustrated. I wonder what my block is. I don't mean to speak for anyone else, though. I know I need to be reading it again, but there are so many other things I have to read - for school, for my internship, for other things. One day I'm just going to sit myself down and say GO!IP: Logged |

So what do we DO about it? Does it mean something? maybe it does for each of us individually.I work at a place that I CAN have a lot of free time at - when guests aren't checking in. I usually work evenings which is slow. I might bring in "Gooberz" and read it here. Anyway, though still frustrated, I am relieved to know that I am not the only one finding it difficult to accomplish. Love for all, LMB IP: Logged |
