I've read Gooberz once and of course it raises every emotion

Now, I tend to open at a page and reread it - and it always seems different, like I'll pick an aspect that wasn't there - possibly what's relevant at the time. I haven't got it with me at work, although I recently reread the part about her being a child and the beautiful thunderstorm near the beginning.. the way that's described ..

You know, I think it's about time I read
Goob'z again. I think it would be a whole different experience.
The first time I read it, I laughed, I cried - it filled me with so many emotions.
Luckily at the time I was unemployed, so I finished it in under two weeks! I couldn't put it down - so excited to read the next page.
I had most of Linda's other books, but everytime I looked at Gooberz in the bookstore, I thought what in the world is this. Finally years later I picked it up. I struggled through the first canto - then, I was hooked.
I told my mom about it and she wanted to read it, but she couldn't get into it. Too bad for her.
I think when the time is right for people to read it they will. It is such a powerful book!
What an amazing woman.

I waited years to read it. I guess we start when we are ready.

Yes. I bet it would be awesome to read to kids. I'm going to read it several times as my children grow up. Talk about a strong foundation of magic!

I've read it once, and am starting to get drawn back to it. I read it in a park at night time a few years ago. I cycled their, made myself comfy on a bench and read for hours under a lamp. My gf couldn't get into it yet, but I k-now she will.

Heaps of Love,
Dean.

Hey Dean,

What a cool notion - reading it to kids, or even copying canto by canto so it's less intimidating.. everyone percieves Gooberz through their experience... it'd be facinating to know what a child sees in it.

I'd love to have read it as a child - my inner child loves it now

I've considered reading it to my kids, but there are some things in it that I don't feel ready to share with my kids.

It seems to me that there's some mention of santa clause really being her parents.... or something like that that would spoil the magic of childhood.

Might not have been a Santa reference.. coulda been the Tooth Fairy... but something to that effect.

I will definately read it to them when they are a little older though.

For now we'll stick to CS Lewis, Jk Rowling, and other authors of the like

It's probably more of a pre-teen book.

Well, I was actually thinking more of 0-2. To help with speech. You could sing or just rhyme. The imagery is helpful. I understand there would be a long period where they might not undertand, and some sections more than others, but subconcsiously it could do wonders.

It's just a thought,
Dean.

Definitely a great book for teens, though.

What a travesty that it went out-of-print.

Yeah... Pre-teens/teens

0-2 would work well too

Reading to the little ones at a young age is so helpful. I started reading to my children while they were in my womb. Sometimes I would play books on tape through headphones and put 'em on my belly

I can't wait until my kids are old enough to share Gooberz with them!

When I first got my copy of Gooberz it shook me through and through. I thought, at last, someone has felt the way I've felt! I walked around in a daze needing to express how it made me feel, like I just had to talk to someone about it (some parts can be so emotional!) but alas, I felt like noone could understand! I did a desperate search for 12th night secrets to no avail (now I've seen in other strings why I couldn't find it) what a shame it didn't get printed - we just aren't ready I guess...

Still years later I'm finally online + did a search to find out what happened to that book and !!!SERENDIPITY!!! This website.
Sadly that copy of the book went home long ago to it's rightful owner so I guess I know what I want for X-mas! now that I have ppl to share it with might be brave enough to read it again! (so much engraved on my memory though, I read it over + over!)

As I tried to explain to others when immersed in the book - "I might not agree with all her answers but she certainly has got the questions!!!"

I received Gooberz through an inter-library loan with the City of St. Louis two weeks ago! It was due last Saturday, and since I couldn't renew it... I read it in 10 days.

Wow! SOOOOOO worth it. I love how Linda wrote her history, about her love(s), and her emotions. Canto 17 really resonates with me, as well as "To Soothe the Savage Beast" and of course... Canto 21.
