“It’s an interesting thing. Seeing Kuan Yin relating to a flower so intently. She's not just looking at it; she's interacting with it…I’m seeing how the act of relating to a flower appears to be so simple. Yet, it takes a tremendous amount of courage to make such a “simple” act important. Now, the lotus is floating away.”

I read it. It was good. Ends with the part about giving money in order to be blessed with more. I believe in that.

Linda starts out with a poem of hers about a guy who wanted to be a composer, writer, doctor, or artist but who settled on being an miserably unhappy engineer instead. Then she goes on to relay that we all have the birthright to joy and happiness, which is a waste if we are in a job that we don't love. She places loving your work first, because only when you love your work can you pay your bills on time, feel physically fantastic, and proceed "skipping up the mountain to Gurism." BTW, she invented that word. Gurism.

Linda describes how she felt when she first moved to Cripple Creek. She felt like a spiritual pilgrim who had discovered her very own Tibet or Shangri-la. She learned many truths there that she wrote about in her diary (and which later became this book). Her very first morning in Crippl Creek, she walked the five blocks of a paved street called Bennett Avenue (all of the other streets were dirt roads). It had rained that morning, and when it rains, the 600 or so residents look at the ground to find mined turquoise that might be rising to the surface (a stone the Native Americans considered to be very lucky). She bumped into the police chief, Dale Simpson, for the very first time, and then had breakfast with her newly-found friend at the Palace Hotel dining room...taking time out for coffee and flapjacks to the tune of a player piano rendition of "Let Me Call You Sweetheart." Upon discovering that he was a Pisces, she immediately knew he was in the wrong profession. She apologized in advance so as not to be taken as impolite or rude, but he was not offended--only curious. He confirmed his unhappiness and that his job is making him physically ill. Then he mentioned another Pisces in town who teaches grade school, the famous soon-to-be long-time friend of Linda's, Ruth Cook. They talk about his wife, Junie, who is a Scorpio, and how the post office is a great job for a Scorpio...and the postmaster, Bud Sanders, who is also a Scorpio. Junie replaced LaVerne King who was a Virgo. Linda expressed her confidence in the local post office with such well-matched people in charge. The police chief wanted to know more, so Linda promise to type it out for him, and she included what she typed in Chapter 1 for all of us to read and learn from. She quotes Kahlil Gibran about work being performed with genuine love or else it is a waste of time and energy: "bread baked without love is a bitter bread, that feeds but half man's hunger." We are all born to excel at something, and can do something better than anyone else in the world, because only we can give it our own special brand of magic.

Linda breaks up the guide she typed up for the police chief into the categories of Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable categories, and then she breaks them further into individual Sun Signs. Mine is Cardinal Earth, and it suits me to a "T."

Linda goes on to teach that daydreams are actually urgings of the Supraconscious and that these images originate from the wise Angel of our Higher S-elf, who repeatedly urges us by seeding into our mind a picture of what we were born to do. But what if we are too "old" to pursue our dreams? Linda goes on to state that "...chronological age is a complete illusion, only made to appear real by the false programming of the mass collective subconscious for centuries." She goes on to give several examples of people who chased their daydreams very late in life, including the concept that failure does not mean that you are on the wrong path (by telling of Lincoln who failed at eveything he tried unil becoming President). And, of course, the shining example of Bill Gates.

Linda then inserts another of her poems--about giving. It's a sad/happy poem about giving to strangers. Then...just when we know we are in for a great Lesson...she diverts her attention for a moment to discuss the coming Earth cataclysms and how we can avert disaster. She quotes her beloved, Robert A. Brewer and inserts a poem from him about the oceans.

Linda gives three reasons why people work: 1. To earn one's daily bread to pay for necessities. 2. To become wealthy or famous. 3. To follow a dream--a true labor of love. She describes how to leave Group 1 to go into Group 3 and how people sometimes enter Group 2 with no intent of making money and end up with a fortune by doing what they love, while those who chase after Midas riches never achieve them or only do so fleetingly and lose everything. Lasting fortunes come from taking an IDEA and adding "L" for love to form an IDEAL. Incalculable fortunes were attained by people who didn't (as Linda so eloquently put it) "give a ginger snap about making money." When the Money Mystique is ignored, though either greed or ignorance, it will dwindle away or become a curse. Linda also talks about Francis of Assisi as an example that one can labor in love and not achieve a lot of money, because they gain something else of equal importance to them along the way. A good example of that would be me with Lindaland. I pour out my Heart and Soul into preserving a place that goes into the world to prevent anyone from ever forgetting Linda Goodman and also a place where her devotees can connect and share with one another. Sure, many who come here have never read any of her books; however, this is our opportunity to expose them to some of her writings. Lindaland will never make me any money, and I am okay with that. I gain from it in ways that are beyond mere monetary remuneration. Lindaland helps many people, keeps Linda's Spirit alive, and feeds my Soul in ways I cannot even fathom nor hope to adequately describe. There truly are no words. Many of you don't know this, but a company recently inquired about purchasing Lindaland. My response consisted of only three words: Not for sale. I didn't ask how much, because I didn't care. No amount would suffice. Just like I would not take any amount of money to sever a limb, betray a friend, or renege on a trust. Lindaland is my beating Heart.

The Money Mystique is actually quite simple in theory...not so much, though, in practice. There are only two rules. Rule 1: Find what kind of work will allow you to labor with love, thus entering Group 3. Rule 2: Give away HALF! After you pay your bills and provide for necessities, you give away half of your surplus. Take care of what provides for your personal requirements for happiness (which will vary by person and could be a castle in England for that matter), and then give away half of the rest freely. Let it go. Don't concentrate on accumulating, saving, or investing it. Yes, it goes contrary to everything you have ever heard about "saving for a rainy day." And yes, those rainy days will arrive, because you will manifest them and attract them. You should give openly and freely--not cautiously and fearfully. And what you have given will return to you multiplied and in a completely unexpected manner and from a completely unexpected source. Give money; never loan it. It will return and not from the person you gave it to. The green energy of money travels in a magnetic circle. A small sum is only temporary. You have to start somewhere. If you have an extra twenty, give away ten. The billionaire families have unknowingly used this Law for years without consciously realizing it. Yes, they mainly give for corporate tax breaks, but the thing about motive is that it doesn't matter, because once the magnetic circle of green energy is spun into motion, it can't be stopped; the motive doesn't affect the boomerang action of money's circular route and multiplied return. This chapter has always been a tough one for me to grasp. I can easily adhere to the seemingly impossible Chaper 9, yet this first chapter has been a tough one for me. But I now vow to give it a try.

RANDALL, I really do appreciate from the bottom of my heart for keeping the legacy of our good old Linda alive
As far as my profession is concerned I am hopeless stuck in category 1 but of late I'm trying for category 3.
And as far as saving for rainy day is concerned I've never saved it for rainy day because I'm never in position to do so.Ha..ha..So it doesn't concern me much. And as for GREEN ENERGY is concerned I'm not so sure if it would work out here in India because our bills have so many different colors right from red, green to brown.I don't know what color our Reserve Bank Of India might think of next.

this is the only section of chapter one where i disagree with Linda... i believe that the motive does matter, and not just from the perspective of moral integrity...
i have witnessed firsthand in numerous cases - money given without love/joy does not circulate back... i firmly believe that if the "gift" springs out of begrudged obligation it is no longer a gift and creates a dead-end... you have to be happily willing to part with whatever amount you choose... of course, the more you give the more you set yourself up to receive... i believe this applies to many facets of daily life, not just money...

I concur with you--but Linda actually mentioned earlier in the chapter that it's important to give with the right intent for it to fully work. I think giving with the wrong intent will still work--but only marginally--because the flow is stifled. I think Linda was just trying to explain how the wealthy get wealthier through giving, even though they generally don't understand on a conscious level what they are doing.

hhmm... so i wonder why she modified it later in the chapter to say that the motivation for doing so didn't matter? possibly to not turn people off?
