The origins of my FRIDAY - FAIRY DAY Lexi...Looking back on some of my re-search I found something I wrote to a friend about my affinity with fairies. It had to do with Odin and his wife Freya (sometimes called Frigg). I've had dreams relating to these two. I wrote: ---------------------------------------- ...then there is FREYA which contains the name or word FRAY which means FAIRY. I love fairies! And in the Old Religion, FRIDAY was and is a day devoted to the Goddess FREYA, from which we get the name FRIDAY. I was born on a Friday. The word FRIDAY contains the words FAY, FAIRY, AIR, FAIR and DAY. I love it!! Hey looky here: FRIDAY A D F I R Y FAIRY DAY! ----------------------------------------- Just wanted to share... eternal IP: Logged |

I agree, Friday is a wonderful day! I just wanted to add that while Frigg and Freya once were one, they later developed different personalities. Frigg became the wife of Odin, while Freya is the fertility goddess, corresponding to Venus (Roman mythology) and Afrodite (Greek mythology) - while Frigg can be said to correspond to Hera, wife of Zeus. I just have to grab this occassion to tell one of the sweetest love stories I know...In Norway, Frey is a rare name on woman and Freystein an even rarer name for a man. I once had a collegue called Frey..One Easter, a friend of her who worked with a mountain rescue group at a ski resort center suddenly got ill and Frey took her place, last minute. She arrived at the cottage where she was gonna stay and found all this equipment labelled "Freys'" - getting really impressed that on such a short notice they had everything ready for her. Then in storms a man, shouting: "Who stole all my stuff!" That was Freystein. And when he stopped being angry he fell in love..IP: Logged |

Freya is one of my three favorite Goddesses along with Rhiannon and Juno.If you really want to pay tribute to Freya on Friday wear gold, as gold is believed to be made from Freyas tears when she mourned for Odin. IP: Logged |

I cant tell you the exact story from the top of my head. But basically, Odin disappeared and she mourned for him by crying tears of gold. Some sources say she was never married to Odin but rather another God named simply Od. IP: Logged |
