Free from the illusion that you are nothing more than your physical body and your mind. This "illusion of the self," as the Buddha calls it, is the core error. Free from fear in its countless disguises as the inevitable consequence of that illusion-- the fear that is your constant tormentor as long as you derive your sense of self only from this ephemeral and vulnerable form. And free from sin, which is the suffing you unconsciously inflict on yourself and others as long as this illusory sense of self governs what you think, say, and do.

Taken from the book: "The Power Of Now" By Eckhart Tolle

Agreed, silverstone

Christ is a title. It comes from a Greek word and it means Messiah or anointed one.

It is more correct to say Jesus the Christ instead of Jesus Christ. It has been shortened down through the ages to Jesus Christ for what reason I have no idea. Many people still say Jesus the Christ and I prefer that myself. I don't think Jesus cares because I don't think he was ever impressed with titles anyway.

I have something very similar written by Charles
Swindoll. It is called "Attitude" and here it is:

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of
attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important
than facts. It is more important than the past, than
education, than money, than circumstances, than
failures, than successes, than what other people think
or say or do. It is more important than appearance,
giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a
company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is
we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we
will embrace for that day. We cannot change our
past... we cannot change the fact that people will act
in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable.
The only thing we can do is play on the string we have,
and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is
10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And
so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes."

I am very familiar with Swindoll's "Attitude" and psychologically it is true and sound reasoning.

However, what is psychology true and sound reasoning is not applied to 99.5% of the world population who react out of emotion in most cases. If humans were not emotional creatures the world might be a different place. Most often though, being the flawed and imperfect creatures that we are what we may know to be true intellectually does not often apply when we feel we have been treated badly, or injustly, or our boundaries are infringed on by others. We will react emotionally every time.

It's easy to post sound advice from others. We may know it is true. It's quite another matter entirely living those words, isn't it? Which is okay because it's human and we all do it. Rare is the person who doesn't react emotionally.

I admit that I do. I am not a finished product or as the saying goes in Christianity, "Jesus isn't through with me yet." All I can do is keep working on my flaws but I do not feel that having them makes me a bad person. Nor do I feel that way about others. Though other people's flaws grate on me a lot more than my own do. It's much easier to "see the speck" in my brothers and sisters eyes than in my own. And that applies to all of us as well.

(I'm going to squeeze this in here inconspicuously )

Mannu, would it be ok if I were to contact you privately or vice/versa? My intentions are entirely innocent...I'm not hitting on you, truly.
I just have this feeling...going on intuition. I'm at rather weakened time, as far as faith goes (faith in this world, anyway...I still have entire faith in the Universe beyond). Please don't feel obligated to say yes. Also, I'm aware you are a private person and entirely respect that.

I agree with you!
Busy..no time to reply properly at the moment but thank you.

Solane, that is sound reason but Attitude is not always that easy.
I would be dead if I did not have a good attitude. I would have given up long ago.
But a good attitude does not save one from nuts with guns chasing you or druggies next door to you..or people slandering you.
More later.

Hi Mirandee,

I've been all over the place, lately.
It's nice to be back.
And to be missed.

To tell the truth,
I'm feeling pretty depressed at the moment.
It's odd how my moods shift.
Something foreign enters my consciousness,
like a grain of sand in an oyster,
and begins to irritate me.
I don't become aware of it all at once.
It gradually leans upon my good spirits,
interrupts and takes an influence in my conversations.

Pretty soon, its past ignoring.

Really, its just a matter of seeing something
I don't want to see.
And, when I finally allow myself to look at it,
or am forced to,
it's sobering;
with all the implications of that word.
Ultimately, I want to be sober.

"A little suffering is always necessary,
A ship without ballast cannot go straight."
- Arthur Schopenhauer

And that irritating grain of sand,
becomes a pearl of great price,
and wisdom.

Knowing all that,
it still stinks.

be well,
hsc

There is no shame in seeking out help. That includes counseling or even rehab,
Once you can get your life on track.....
I feel you would make a fantastic motivational and inspirational speaker to help people know that they too can be helped and that there is no shame in seeking help.
You could even write books on the subject.
You can see where you are at. It does not make you happy.
You know that and want to change.
You have depended on those "crutches for so long you do not know how to live without them. Using them leads back to more complacency, procrastination and ultimately more despair and even manic episodes which make the low points feel even worse.
Time to throw those away and get some training wheels!
When Jesus said throw down your crutches and walk...
I believe it may have been analogy. To throw down our crutches, means to let go of the things we do to cope that do not help but make us weaker and weaker as we rely too much on them.
Crutches are such things as; drugs, drink, sex, food, television, even video games. For some it is fancy dress or cars, or belonging to a selfserving clique. There are many kinds of crutches. Even religion or philolosophy can be a means to justify our errors and become crutches.
Get the help you need, not the crutch you want.

HSC. I KNOW YOU CAN! You do SEE many options to improve YOU!
I know you can climb out of that deep well of despair and self delusions that you thought you cannot change, it is too hard you have thought. But you look up, you can see the sky. Even from there you know there is a way up and out. You might need to call out asking for a ladder.
Climb out, and without looking back, go forth and get help. Later, when you are, who you really are, and can walk, you can return, to see that the well of despair has been filled in, and you can then plant a rather nice Zen garden upon it.
I hope I made sense.
Remember, I have been there too. Is my life perfect? My life is my life, and has its down times and up times. A balance. Contrasts to facilitate appreciation. But my garden grows nicely over my well(or should I say filled in septic tank or old cistern?)and the nasty yet fertile stuff yeilds to the garden, transforms into much beauty!

Roses to stop and smell, and food for thought, doth in my garden grow.

You do not have to run, you do not have to walk. Baby steps and even crawling will get you there if you really want changes for the better in your self and your life.

Thank you, fayte.

You do make sense,
Uncommon sense.

Am I right to think it may be summed up
in this way:

"Go to thy brother,
and not to thy cistern."

love to you,

Only you with your similar placements could get my drift.
Or my warped dry humor.
Bless You!
NOW GET YOUR SELF TOGETHER MAN!
Your potential is great!
You know it too!

Go find that ladder or build one.
