I was watching a special yesterday and it seems that if not us then our children wud see the magnetic shift happening.

The last time it happened, and if you had a compass, you wud see the compass needle rotating 6 minutes per day....Amazing isn't it..

They were talking about how its going to be dangerous for our skins because of solar radiation. They were also showing that cities wud see auroras (did i spell rite) during night time.

I wonder if we wud shed our clothes (body) by then.

Good news is Earth won't be like Mars where theres no magnetic field at all.

Mannu, I've also heard that if and when this happens, winds will reach 300 miles per hour in storms that will sweep across the earth. That we will have to live underground much of the time! very scary vision of the future.
I think I will savour every moment of the present!

Pole slipping and moving it not anything new. It happens slowly or fast. It moved a little after the tsumami that hit awhile back. It has shifted before many times, it will again.

Do you think any disasters will happen because of it? or will it just come natural with no real danger to the world?

The tv show didn't seem to say its going to be very bad. They said, that the earths magnetic force is weakening over the years.
And soon earth will be like Mars surface, full of craters.

But I guess we will be evolved technologically by then and probably move to a nearby solar system or live on Titan.

Pole shifts are generally gradual.
More tidal waves and all?
No.
Can they affect the poles?
Yes.
But the pole shifting is normal and I do not feel causes the problems.
It must shift as the dynamics of a living planet change.
Call it an adjustment.
Equal and opposite reactions, cause and effect. It is simply a re-balancing.
Normal planet action.
Worry more about greehouse warming and methane bubbles rising up that is going on in Siberian permafrost if you want to worry about something. Worry about deforesting and excess CO2.
That can in time wipe out the human race long before a big pole shift.

Magnetic field reversals
Main article: geomagnetic reversal
Based upon the study of lava formations in Hawaii, it has been deduced that the Earth's magnetic field reverses at intervals, ranging from tens of thousands to many millions of years, with an average interval of approximately 250,000 years. The last such event, called the Brunhes-Matuyama reversal, occurred some 780,000 years ago.
The mechanism responsible for geomagnetic reversals is not well understood. Some scientists have produced models for the core of the Earth wherein the magnetic field is only quasi-stable and the poles can spontaneously migrate from one orientation to the other over the course of a few hundred to a few thousand years. Other scientists propose that the geodynamo first turns itself off, either spontaneously or through some external action like a comet impact, and then restarts itself with the magnetic "North" pole pointing either North or South. External events are not likely to be routine causes of magnetic field reversals due to the lack of a correlation between the age of impact craters and the timing of reversals. Regardless of the cause, when magnetic "North" reappears in the opposite direction this is a reversal, whereas turning off and returning in the same direction is called a geomagnetic excursion.

Using a magnetic detector (a variant of a compass), scientists have measured the historical direction of the Earth's magnetic field, by studying the layered iron-rich lava rocks. This is possible as each layer has been found to maintain the original magnetic field at its time of cooling. They have found that the poles have shifted a number of times throughout the past.

All through time and the ages people try to invoke fear in you. I guess its a way to draw attention and fear is a great way to control people. I see a pruning of the planet right now. A cleaning out of old energies, so to speak. The first thing that we all must do to promote evolvement of mankind is to remove fear. Fear is slowing down the progress. Do not listen to those who want you to be fearful. There are some here on this board who want you to be fearful. They are stuck in the old energy. The future coming is very good. The new energy of the future does not support fear. It will no longer be necessary. We are indeed living in great times right now. Unfortunately we have to clean out the old crap first.

Charlotte, i knew you needed to hear that. I just want to add: The energy is shifting and the magnetic poles are part of that. By the year 2012 the shift will be complete. This is what the Mayan's call end of times. It means end of the old energy. When energy changes like we are living in now the planet becomes so polarized. Lots of very good stuff and lots of very bad stuff ( wars etc..) I fight every day to stay strong and stay positive so i can help those who are fearful. I am fearful too but I am coming to see that all of what is going on in the world now will lead to great times. The middle east will settle down but it may be a few years . When we all begin to see that there really is hope for the middle east I will relax a lot more. We are half way there. Thats wonderful.
