After reviewing many-many books in my study of the Tarot for many years, here's some excellent information I compiled from the following books, some information was also gathered from my personal mentor:

The Tarot History, Symbolism and divination by Robert M Place. The Everything Tarot book by M.J. Abaide. The General Principles of Astrology by Aleister Crowley and Evangeline Adams.Star Signs by Linda Goodman.www.toniallen.co.uk Surrey UK based Tarot Reader, Astrologer and Creative Artist, Toni Allen. Rider-Waite Learning To Read The Symbolism Of The Tarot, by Morgan Ki'ilehua. Tarot Reversals, www.youtube.com, by Kristel High-Correll. Tarot Course- The Tarot, www.youtube.com, by M. Rev. Donald Lewis. Tarot Teachings: A Fresh Look At Tarot Wisdom; www.tarotteachings.com by Avia Venefica. Tarot Colors and Symbols www.youtube.com by Amanda Goldston; Tarot: Reading the future by Didier Colin; Book of Tokens-Tarot Meditations by Paul Foster Case. Develop Your Intuition Through Tarot by Amanda Goldston

*Lialei had some excellent notations on the fool, which she wrote some time ago here in Lindaland, and I inserted here. *Aselzion had also some instrumental information from past threads she initiated which I compiled. A special thanks to Lotusheartone and Amanda Goldston for their wisdom

Whether you use the reverse card technique,or not it's entirely up to you. It all depends on how the cards work for you. Truthfully, the best readings I've received have been done by not using reversals. My teacher showed me that the surrounding cards will paint the picture, regardless--But to each their own. There are also so many secrets in the tarot that I learned that are not in the books (such as getting names, depicting spiritual attacks, among others). Try to partner with a very skillfull teacher to give you pointers; and most importantly, one whom you trust. My teacher dedicated all of her life reading Tarot.

The 4's all tend to represent situations where TIME is a factor to be considered. Each card has a picture and very often you can get an immediate idea of the meaning of a tarot card, just by looking at the card.
Quick tips for understanding Tarot Card Meanings.

  • Look at the picture on the card - what can you see? What is actually going on in the card?
  • What are the dominant colors? Are they light and bright? Are they dark and challenging?
  • What immediate feelings or reaction do you get as you look at the card?
  • Do you hear any words in your head as you look at the card?

That is probably your Intuition trying to connect with you. Those messages will be correct for you, even though they may differ from the tarot card meanings that you find in books.

Just like any good book, the Tarot builds momentum, its plot thickens. Knowing one card is a product or has been birthed from the previous card gives us a foothold on meaning.

Timing:

    Pentacles--Spring
    Cups—Summer
    Swords—Winter
    Wands—Fall

*Aces represent new beginnings, challenges. The hand of the Creator is presenting the viewer with a magical item: a Wand, a Pentacle, a Sword and a Cup.

*Pages represent youth up to the age of 25. Goal, situation or decision. Pages can represent messages, words, gossip (especially if there are a lot of pages in the reading)

*Knights represent adult males ages 25-45; single-minded… efforts toward goal.

*Knights hold a bigger stature, with more significance than Pages, usually messengers of good times bringing you good stuff, A knight in shinning arm

*Queens are adult females of any age. Receptiveness, willingness in situations.

*Kings are adult females of ages 45 on. Culmination or accomplishment of a goal.

If you also implement Numerology in your reading here is the Chaldean Numerology System. The meanings of the numbers are listed after the end of all of the cards, which are excerpts from Star Signs by Linda Goodman:

    1-The Sun
    2-The Moon
    3-Jupiter
    4-Uranus

    6-Venus
    7-Neptune

Life is the spiritual journey of the soul whose origin and destination are the same God or Spirit if you will. Ancient belief is that all matter is composed of five elements: Air, Fire, Water, and Earth, present in all things and creatures. Air: awareness and thought; Fire: action and manifestation; Water: reaction and emotion; Earth: integration and structure. The fifth element is Spirit which gives life to all things and with which nothing will exist. This concept runs through the Tarot and is the key consequently and considering the meaning of the 22 major arcana cards. The cards are divided into five groups of four—one group per each element, the remaining two cards, The Fool and The World, line naturally outside of the system—in each of these five quartets, the 1st three cards refer to condition, and the 4th card to the natural result of those conditions:

    0: Primordial deity—Air
1: Creation, the masculine aspect of God
2: Spirit, or Goddess, or the feminine aspect of God
    3: In soul universe
4: Time and structure of perception—Fire
5: Communication between spirit and human
    6: Choice and lessons
    7: Material advancement and success
    8: Spiritual advancement and success—Water
    9: Seeker
10: What fate gives the seeker
11: What fate the seeker makes of himself
12: Process of learning and growing—Earth
13: Eternal cycle which facilitates growth
14: Acquisition and integration of knowledge
    15: Material illusion, the veil
    16: Piercing material illusion—Spirit
17: Piercing illusion through vision and inner work
18: Piercing illusion through religion and ritual
19: Piercing illusion through material experiences
20: The enlightening person was overcome illusion
    21: Deity after enlightment

Here will be seeing that the major arcana of the Tarot tell the story of existence from before 1st creation through the journey of the soul, through the ultimate reunion of the soul with deity, thus it might be said to be true that the Tarot does indeed contain the fable secrets of the universe.
M. Rev. Donald Lewis~

I hope you all enjoy the revisiting of the Tarot,

The Fool is a new soul when he is at the beginning of the suit but in the penultimate position he is the soul redeemed—“A prince from another world on his travels through this one.” As a novice, he is about to fall from the cliff that he is walking toward but not looking at. As a master, he has climbed to the summit, a symbol of the sacred center, and regained his innocence. Mountains often represent distant horizons and lofty dreams. There’s also an element of danger and of the unknown, as well as overcoming personal challenges, yet he has no fear. His trials are over and he can bask in the golden sunlight of the dawn. Looking up to the sky he supports a bag on a wand, which shows a symbol of power on his shoulder; the bag represents his past experiences and memories; he is taking with him just the bare minimum that he needs, which is not very much, his mind full of them but they do not control him. The bag on him has the wing of an Eagle, which is the highest symbol of the sign of Scorpio, and also the symbol of a soaring spirit. He is very aware of the power he holds, yet with no Ego. His tunic is covered with fruit or flowers, and the ten circles of the tree of life; it also has stars and moon, which denotes the fool is a child of innocence. The dog in the picture has become his joyful companion; the dog can be seen trying to warn him about the possible impending danger of stepping over the edge, or he can simply be encouraging him every step of the way. Also, the dog may symbolize the inner voice, or conscience (Higher-self, Higher-power, God, Angel, Goddess, Knowing, Gut feeling, intuition).

The dog can also represent the forces of nature and the animal self of men, which are all in harmony with the figure who acts out of instinct. When you deny your inner-self it can become a ferocious beast…The Feather in his cap is a symbol of air and it points to the sun, a symbol of enlightment; actions are guided and directed from above. He holds a white rose, a Golden Dawn symbol of silence and rebirth, which also illustrates clarity of purpose and purity of desire, love and innocence. The delicate way in which is held indicates passions raised to a very high level, which they are when you follow the calling of your heart. The fool looks away from the sun. Is it because he ignores wisdom or is because he has absorbed its lessons and does not need to look directly into the light? To decide which fool is meant in a reading, look at the cards that flank him and particularly that one he may face.

He is life and death and the perpetuation of the soul from one cycle to the next. He is undifferentiated and unmanifest. He is the beginning and he is the end. The body dies and falls to disintegration, but the soul continues on its journey to perfection and fulfillment. With each new incarnation the soul yearns to be free from the boundaries and invisible shackles it has brought with it from previous incarnations in the form of karma. Unwittingly we obey the call of the “oughts” and “shoulds” which bite at our tail, until eventually we break free and run towards the truth which only our own soul can know and fully understand.

It is then that others cry *Fool* as we leave behind all that we have built, earned, craved or desired; for the truth is stronger than money, a job or apparent security. Freedom comes from within and not from without, and often the Fool depicts not the running away from established physical burdens but the inner peace we find deep inside during difficult times. To be true to our self against the odds is freedom; to be independent. To follow the dictates of our heart and soul rather than allow the crowd to sway us, or family to influence us, or early environmental conditioning to deter us; that is when we step into the power of the Fool.

As his journey progresses, such foolishness does lead to mastery and wisdom—This card brings a sense of casting all cares to the wind. Logic, planning, and order are not involved. Instead, magical synchronicities and lucky serendipitous events can occur. Now is the time to take a risk or seek adventure because you are guided by faith, folly, or fancy—be open to new opportunities; often indicating one who is ready to start on a new spiritual path who has made peace with the need to experience absolute faith and trust in the universe. Perhaps the person may be consciously in touch with the intuitive realm of his or her being. The fool represents a state of openness and is relying on his inner truth to support his adventure—he is the spirit in search of experience; radical trust in life—opportunities are available. There is as much misconception in foolishness as there is of innocence. Innocence is often misconceived as naivety or gullibility; they aren’t the same—Innocence is the pure state of our beings, and a person can be extremely experienced and wise; his or her innocence all the more amazing for its enduring strength through the seasons of life’s ups and downs. All the most beautiful meaning here on this earth generates from the fool’s shinning invincible hope. The fool is at Zero, returning to the purity f his soul; he has already experienced (traveled around the wheel) yet regardless of his experience, is returning to the innocence of his being. Clean slate, with shinning optimism and bravery that is so needed to begin again.

Reversed: Lack of trust in life; leaping before you look, and a foolish disregard for present conditions.

Above his head is a symbol of infinity- Stands in a garden of roses and lilies. Pentacles to earth, cups to water, swords to air, and wands to fire—The Magician’s relationship with those symbols aligns him with the fifth element, the spirit. Three symbols also appear to be carved on the edge of the table: First appears to be a seascape and possibly representing water, second fire, and third is the dove a symbol for the holy spirit—the drive force that is beyond the physical elements, and, therefore, also the fifth element. This card represents will initiations and beginnings. The Magician holds his wand, a symbol of magic, toward the heaven and points his left hand toward earth—he says that the way of heaven should be manifested on earth, “as above, so below” showing manifestation. The headband represents concentration… this is a powerful man who can work magic and heal. You are experiencing magical strength and can actualize. All greenery around him represents the vegetable kingdom in general. Roses refer to desire and the five senses, lilies to purity and proper use of arcane knowledge and universal laws. In totality the magician is in possession of knowledge that enables him to manipulate the material world through aligning it with the spiritual plane in order to create the desired circumstance. What we consider to be an illusion is another form of reality, and what we consider to be a reality can be an illusion—we must learn to use our intellect, our intuitive abilities, personal talents, and practical skills in order to mediate between the two worlds; both of which affect us simultaneously—A card of power… it tells us that our nature is one with the nature of the universe, the beginning of the road to spiritual enlightment. The Magician is endowed with energy, imagination and power of conviction, but no one can predict how he will use these qualities. He is Master of his own destiny

Reversed: Not using one’s ability; time for change is not now. Experiencing self-doubt about any new venture, or your spirits and vitality may be too low for action required.

This card represents inner, esoteric religious experience, or mystery. We understand mystery when we accept that we cannot know it. It symbolizes feminine spiritual power. A serene-faced female figure, the scroll or book in her lap represents the akashic records, the crescent moon at her feet warns of the danger of releasing higher knowledge to those unprepared to handle it. B-Boaz and J-Jachin can be seen as portals of a doorway to the interior of life’s mysteries with her as the guardian of the entryway. The stone throne represents being united with higher consciousness. Her cross is symbolic of the four elements held in balance. The water flowing represents stream of consciousness, and the water behind veil the unconscious truth. The smooth surface suggests truth and secrets are in the depths of the subconscious. Interpretation: something hidden, or interior is preparing to come forth, or the person needs to pay more attention to his/her inner world of dreams, imagination, and intuition—usually the person is ready to accept but may have been holding back out of fear or inertia. This card can also indicate that the person is attempting to hide something that needs to be revealed. * This can be a good or bad card, as it can be someone working for you or against you; someone of stature (male pr female); be cautious. Also, one can be experiencing a high degree of awareness of the invisible world. The High Priestess sees everything, hears everything and knows everything, but says nothing. She waits patiently for exactly the right moment, considers everything deeply and knows the beginning and the end of all things. She is intuitive, lucid, clear-sighted, inquiring, organized, ordered, reserved, sensitive and cultures; an attentive and principled woman.

Reversed: Not listening to one’s inner guidance; blocking one’s inner guidance. You may be finding your own personal way into your inner world and the riches it contains.

A card of beauty and nurturance—represents the social concept of the feminine in maternal role, domestic harmony; a positive card. She sits on a throne in a field of grain next to a waterfall, symbols of abundance and sensuality —Flowers represent Mother Nature; bears the astrological symbol of Venus representing love. She holds a scepter and wears a crown with 12 stars. She is fertility and sensuality. The shield-heart shaped means she lovingly protects. Her pearl necklace has nine pearls, seeds of creation. The stream flowing suggests giving life to the garden, and the pillow giving comfort. She is the mother of the deck. Your energies are balanced and harmonious. You’ll be fortunate and secure with material matters. A strong feminine element at work; emotional control, if a man, indication is recognizing feminine component on himself and acknowledge its power to harmonize. Care taking process. Sometimes a “smother mother” that the person had or he/she is acting out that role.

Reversed: Blocking one’s prosperity and abundance. Too much time nurturing others.

A figure of supreme authority. His age and position of authority speak of experience and wisdom gained. His attitude is one of a passive kindness as the beneficent ruler of his empire willing to fight for what’s right. A father figure with traditional values; he is a teacher figure. The armor represents that he is protective; governed by rules and strictness of life. In a reading he can indicate issues relating to one’s relationship with one’s personal father, or to the authority figures in general. It can indicate the time to relay on one’s self instead of relying on others. It is important to realize that at some point an adult must in fact become his or her own father. His clothes are symbols of Mars, ruler of Aries. He is disciplined. Moreover, in a reading it can indicate that the real father of the person has either recently died or may die soon. Another interpretation is that there may be someone in the person’s life who is acting as a father figure, a boss or a husband.

Reversed: Conflict within established order of things. Not willing to take charge of one’s life—feeling dominated by someone else.

Hierophant’s power is of a spiritual nature; he is wise. He is considered to be a figure of a religious leader; a mentor or teacher. His scepter symbolizes the 3 worlds: Physical, astral, and etheric—Sits or stands between two pillars, which stand for duality of the world of matter and spirit. A triple tiara of gold symbolizing wisdom, perfection, glory and the power of superconsciousness. He can be seen as a teacher to those who seek the keys to the sacred mysteries. The hand gesture indicates be “still and listen.” Below him are 2 crossed keys representing the intellect and intuition and the need to use them in tandem. The people symbolize the 3 body: Mind and spirit, unconscious and conscious and superconscious. The monks appear showing us to work together; the kneeling suggests surrender. In a reading the person has chosen a specific religion or a particular life philosophy with which to guide his/her life. The idea of choice is posited. You are challenged to remain a follower or to break out the challenge to depend an outside authority, or learn to think for yourself. *Someone (could be a male or female) of importance working for you or against you (depending on the surrounding cards). He represents moral judgment, the determination of what is right and what is wrong. In a reading, notice if he is blessing another card in the spread.

Reversed: A disregard for mainstream religion and thought. Choosing to think for one’s self.

The Angel is reconciling the reasoning of the man and the passions of the woman. It is unifying pairs of opposites, such as the male and female, night and day, positive and negative. The wings of the angel indicate the idea of connecting to the higher realms and the angel mediating between God and humans. The cloud can be a symbol of change as we do not really know where clouds come from or where they go; they affect us some way and then move on. Clouds define what we can see and what is behind or beyond can be hidden or obscured. The single mountain is the unifying factor between the male and female energies; the intellect and the passions or between opposing pairs. The Sun is the source of life giving energy which helps things to grow and flourish; it shines the light on who you are. It fills the whole card behind the Angel and is indicate in the middle ground from which opposites can emerge. It shines that wonderful light of wisdom on both sides, which need each other to any form of harmony or resolution. It is allegorically a statement about union. Identifying the opposite trait within ourselves that need to be reconciled and lived with. This card points to this need to heal an inner rift- Obstacles to overcome, both within and without. We have the ability to choose what is right or wrong for yourself. How our elders guide us during this crucial stage of development is of paramount importance because it will color our entire life and either validate us as a discerning human being or make us prone to follow the lead of others. The two paths offered are either *The World of Earthly Delight* or *Higher knowledge*. This card underlines the importance of choice and free will. Temptation leads to indecision, over-diversification and a confusion of feeling and ideas. Without choice, without limit or without aim, an individual lives a life of doubt and uncertainty, pulled this way and that by good or bad, depending on the prevailing circumstances.

Discrimination also falls within the realm of relationships and often choice is between freedom or commitment. After all commitment is much harder work than flitting from one sensual high to the next; yet commitment offers a deeper love, which although enriching, can be an extremely challenging concept.

A card about love, loving… This card suggests that you are at crossroads. Consider all of the ramifications of the situation carefully. Make discriminating choices in order to further your own development and to accommodate the needs of others in the situation. The ability to freely express emotions and trust your feelings. This is a card of cooperation, of working together in coalition with others to accomplish joint purposes. It stands for attraction of any kind, not only of the romantic variety, and for any venture requiring harmony, union, and cooperation. The angel opens the way to the true sun of enlightment. Mountains symbolize attainment to the highest. Nudity suggests being yourself without shame; the tree flaming is the tree of life, and the tree with fruit is the tree of knowledge. Here love is depicted as one continuum, a divine force that impels us to pursue the Good from the physical to the spiritual.

Reversed: Being disconnected to one’s higher-Self. Not wanting to deal with the problems in a relationship—forcing cooperation among basically incompatible elements.

The chariot wears a belt and a skirt decorated with zodiacal glyphs, symbolic of time. The chariot not moving means he does not have a rebellious nature. The wheels signify the ever-changing life cycles. The Sphynx pulling the chariot signify the opposite forces. The Sphinxes are, of course, day and night; the white represents joy and the black suffering—the canopy of stars is the abyss of heaven, and the four pillars are the seasons. He is the conquering hero who has transformed sexual energy into a vehicle that can carry him toward his spiritual goal, the spiritual Sun, which is the meaning of the crest on the front of his Chariot. He is still, however, concerned with the physical world. To proceed he has to pull together the opposing forces of the two Sphinxes. The need to be in control of competing forces whether they represent people or a situation in your life that requires you to take command—you may feel unequal to the challenge of controlling the multiple factors of a given situation. Once the situation is resolved within your own mind, even if struggle is at stake, you’ll be in a position to stay on course. Self-mastery, strategy, clear-thinking and a sense of purpose--The means to triumph over all obstacles and stay the course you have set. It could mean assistance is on the way, perhaps transforming yourself and your ways of thinking. Movement, travel and transportation. It could mean changing your mode of transport. Represents confidence, preparedness, travel, victory. The path is clear and focused goals can be attained. Being in control of a situation, though being pulled by opposing forces. The ability to maintain balance in a time of transition. The Chariot encourages you to look to the future, to explore your choices, decisions, undertakings and objectives fully, audacious, daring or ambitious as they may be, and sustain the pressure until you have achieved your goal.

Reversed: Feeling out of control in a fast-pace situation; not knowing what to do. You may feel pulled in two directions at once and being stressed out by pressure. Time to choose direction carefully, to accept the process of inner transition as positive.

Self-Confidence and inner strength of being in harmony with one’s instinctive nature. The woman represents human courage and will power that masters the instinctive realm not by force but by cooperation— Roses connecting woman and lion, symbolizing how we are chained to our desires. The Lion represents fears, feelings, and desires… our ego uses to control our life. The hand on Lion indicates gentle force and confidence. The tail position of the Lion indicates surrender. The meaning in a reading signifies, exhibits moral courage and fortitude. You have learned to listen to the whisperings of your own nature—you have come through difficulties and learned to rely on inner strength. This is a time when faith in yourself will pay off; overcoming physical strength with spirituality. It represents self-mastery through love and abundance.

Reversed: Repressed physical needs or physical desire. Time for change and expression of your individuality.

He radiates the wisdom of the man figure—travels alone, a seeker after truth, lightning and illuminating the way ahead for those who follow after. The lantern represents consciousness, guide/teacher. His staff represents conscious support. There’s a glowing six-pointed star, a symbol of the masculine upward-pointing triangle and the feminine downward-pointing triangle joined as one power. His robe is dark and his hood is up, which strengthens the mood of isolation and contemplation. The hood also symbolizes mental attention is always at its highest. The peak symbolizes cold and lonely… leaving the world of senses to enter the mind. He has mastered the virtue of the last trump and climbed to the top of the distant summit. His goal is to search. The meaning signifies a guide figure is at hand offering help—the question must voluntarily withdraw from contact with the outer world for a time in order to search. A period of silent reflection and solitary quest for inner vision. Attainment—attained spiritual wisdom. A teacher for you or you the teacher for someone else. The Hermit probes and extracts the truth from this world. He destroys illusions and sees things as they are, relying solely upon his lucid mind and profound judgment. As the Hermit learns more and more about the world, with the aid of his staff and his lantern, so he understands more about himself. Thus his solitude is neither isolating nor reclusive, but a state that is strong, regenerative and radiant.

Reversed: Emotional withdraw. Time to engage in self-evaluation of your life—avoiding aims and goals.

The letters on the rim of the Wheel may read ROTA, Latin for wheel, when read from the bottom, and TARO, when read from the top. Between the Latin letters are the four Hebrew letters that spell the name of God, the Tetragrammaton. Levi calls it the wheel of Ezekiel, which explains the inclusion of the four living creatures in the corners. This detail turns the image into a quincunx related to the world. The alchemical symbols on the crossbars of the inner circle are, proceeding clockwise from the top, mercury, sulphur, solution, and salt. These can be translated as soul and spirit in combination with the body. The human figure with the head of the jackal is Hermanubis, a combination of Hermes and Anubis. He is the guide of the soul and represents good. The snake is Typhon, the Greek name for Set, who is the evil brother of Osiris. The snake warns that each cycle we go through Is transformation. The Sphinx on the top represents wisdom and equilibrium, knowing when to hold on and when to let go. Clouds symbolize higher levels of man. The four corners are fixed signs in the zodiac. The Waite-Smith wheel represents change in the world. The world of time and impermanence is seen here as permeated by the spirit and as the spirit at work. The good god is rising, and the evil is descending.

Card of Karma. Something has been put in motion over which you now have little no control; you’re being forced to accept the action of the forces of destiny… changes can be good or bad—You are being forced to align yourself with the aims, foretelling of changing circumstances, usually for better. Balance may be an issue if you are resisting change but you have no choice but to go along; things will run its course: “What goes up must come down. This card almost heralds good fortune coming as a result of what yourself have put into motion. It means a new phase, new decision, or totally unexpected circumstance developing that will literally change your life. The wheel is a universal symbol for healing, change and transformation; energy of change coming into your life that hasn’t happened yet. The Wheel turns. Everything around us and within us is perpetually in motion.

Reversed: Resisting or not being ready for change in your life. You are holding back your own destiny by your refusal to make necessary changes or take required action. You are rationalizing but uncomfortable; fear lack of commitment… quit being wishy-washy

This card can be an indication of an actual legal matter pending or being considered. Justice warns you to take guidance from your inner self. Law and order are represented. The foot extended suggests readiness for action. The robe is red which indicates courage and desire. Issues of fairness are paramount now. This card symbolizes Karma. You may be fair rewarded, may be you are not. Justice will prevail as a result of your own temperate behavior and rational thought. There may be a 3rd party coming to your aid who will assist you to get the fair outcome. This card can also represent anyone involved with legal profession. Represents truth, judgment, and dealings with the law. It reveals and indicates what is right; you must prove your integrity and impartiality, your ability to impose order and discipline or to submit to it yourself.

Reversed: Being out of balance; a situation that’s not fair to someone… possibly yourself. A legal situation that may turn out ugly; a warning to check everything about the situation; possible jail time.

The Hanged Man is traditionally suspended between two upright poles which are sprouting new growth. These leafy poles are the equivalent of two-ace of batons, two active new potentials in life. He is suspended by his ankle symbolizing that he renounces any pleasure or pain which might result from any action he chooses. The figure upside-down position of the Hanged Man represents a reversal in attitude and perception, but it can also be a loss of position. His hands show that he is surrendering; his halo represents inspiration, connection to the divine. Tied by one leg indicates limitation. His leg as 4 shows seeing order. Four shows the earth and its four directions. The tree is the tree of life. The hanged man is said to symbolize Judas. By reversing his sense of values, he has turned the world “on its head.” He is going through and ordeal but willingly, to further his goal. Voluntary surrender to the process of achieving enlightment.

*The hanged man, in a reading, can mean betrayal, change. The Hanged Man symbolizes the revelation that life is different depending on whichever way you choose to look at it. The card also speaks to traitorous interpersonal conundrums and to traitorous emotions as well as those times when we are at our worst regarding health A call to a less materialistic way of life has been received; being ready for any personal sacrifice. Going through a major transformation perhaps illness or loss. A commitment to the development of the querent’s inner self is demanded. You have reached a dead end, facing a brick wall. Now is the time to turn and create anew path—surrender… going through an ordeal but willingly to further his goal. A willing sacrifice to obtain something you want more than you are losing. An initiation that results in spiritual growth and gifts—seeking proper time for action.

Reversed: Sacrificing some part of your life unnecessarily. Possible delays in time… a time to be flexible. You are at a crossroad and are in a stand still because you have become stuck on the material plane, and are neglecting your spirituality. Maybe in denial of your real needs which could be affecting you with depression and a sense of dissatisfaction; not true to your inner self.

Transformation; powers of life and death. It suggests the perpetual movement of the cycles of life and death. The rose with 5 petals represents the 5 senses of the material life combined with the immortality of the heart, or soul. The rose purifies and clarifies after death. Sun is rising, sign of resurrection over a body of water representing the unconscious realm. The valley of death is shown here, the boat is an indication of the soul’s journey to the afterlife. The river represents unity of change and eternity. The people show 4 different ways of change: The king with ego, the priest showing no fear of death, the woman turning away not willing to surrender, and the child innocence. The end—death of a cycle. When the Sun enters Scorpio it’s the death of the year—the leaves fall; nature putrefies. The Endings are beginnings… you may die in one area, but you’ll be reborn in another. Life itself is a series of deaths and rebirths. Experiencing metamorphosis of some sort.

Reversed: Not accepting change in one’s life, usually out of fear. Stuck in old habit patterns

The process of heating and cooling; the blending of forces. He stands on the sea and the land with a rainbow on his head and a face that radiates like the sun. The sea and land are also the alchemical wet and dry, symbols of the outer and the inner world; one foot in the material world; one foot in the spiritual. The triangle in the square of his chest is a symbol of spirit contained in matter. The landscape wears the crown and the head wears the sun. The pouring of water suggests the elements of life flowing together. The path to source, enlightment. Temperance mixes the inner world of the psyche with the external physical world—this connection between the internal and external is what Jung calls synchronicity … The rainbow on his head connects heaven and Earth: “as above, so below.” Tempering and equilibrating the opposing forces, succeeded in preserving the active and creative force which develops.

Balance, making the right decisions; moderation in all things—caution to have patience, which may be difficult under the circumstances. The difficult lessons to wait calmly will serve. Time is essential… not in a position to hurry matters along. Creativity—blending things in a harmonious way and having the ability to be creative. Flowing from one cup to the other can indicate an alcoholic.

Reversed: Conscious mind over controlling your situation… previous combinations aren’t working well; try not forcing together inharmonious elements.

Here their nudity represents unbridled passion instead of innocence, and, as further evidence they are ruled by their animal nature, the couple has grown tails and horns. The chains are loose and could easily be slipped off over the head, suggesting self-imposed limitations— The goat-like beared, represents obsessions with sex; the donkey ears symbolizes stupidity. The inverted pentacle shows “pouring” spirit out of your life. The bat’s wings: creature of the dark that cannot see in the light. The devil’s legs are in the form of Eagle legs, which indicates hanging on to self-defeating behavior and idea. The torch is inverted, “conjuring up the devil,” misuse of the life force, excessive ego, imposing your will on others.

The emphasis is on the material. The black background represents “black magic,” unable to see the truth. The man and woman represent the light and dark side of our nature; the facial expressions illustrates acceptance of a bad situation. The chains represent bondage by choice. The palm shows evil and misfortune; limitation, and restriction. The fingers of the devil are positioned showing narrow illusion of thought. One is trapped in an oppressive situation of his or her own doing. Re-evaluate his or her relationships to material things, which serve to keep us “chained” firmly in one position—abusive or harmful relationships, letting go of old fears. The chains are loose indicates your potential for attaining your freedom by relinquishing obsessive ambition and excessive attachment to the things of this world—this card represents imprisonment, addiction, selfishness, obsession. Someone else may be involved, but you have the ability to free yourself by using your will power. The devil is the one that divides… we live our lives in a state of division… the dichotomy that is the internal or external opposition of good and evil… To desire something is to seek, to aspire, to wish for something. Tell me what you desire, what you are looking for and to what you aspire, and I will tell you who you are. We are, or we become, our own desires. Consequently, The Devil shows us chained to our desires as surely as death is chained to life, in an immutable and fatal cycle.

Reversed: Release of addiction and limitations.

Water symbolizes the emotions, so here we are referring to stuck or Painful emotions. The crayfish symbolizes the individual. Each of us has a hard ego shell which we erect to protect the self, in the misguided belief that it can damaged or hurt. In truth, it is only the ego which experiences pain. Due to the impurity of the water the crayfish must leave or it will die.

Beyond the water we see the path that the crayfish (oneself) must follow in order to go past the Moon to the Sun which shines behind it. On the path one initially encounters two dogs which symbolize those who would like us to stay as we are and will, therefore, try and force us to remain in the stagnant emotions. Beyond the dog and wolf are two towers, one already damaged. These represent distortion and fear; false ego identities which one might be tempted to try and hide in along the way. Beyond the Moon is the Sun, and a promise of hope and “light at the end of the tunnel.” In a tarot reading, the Moon card represents fear. However painful the negative emotions, or emotional situations might be, it is always terrifying to break out from a habitual way of being. Stagnant water creates bondage. The moon illuminates and reveals your path. The moon changeable denotes caution. There’s no people which suggests we lose sense of self in partial light; the path is winding which shows the journey can be difficult.

A prime example of the Moon card in practice is when someone wants to leave a negative relationship. The first thing they do is go and discuss it with their friends (the dog and the wolf) who come up with a list of obstacles and reasons why they should not leave: “What about the children?” “How will you afford to do that?” “Where will you go without any money?” “You must stay and give the children a father.” All of these arguments push the questioner back into the stuck emotional situation, now compounded by added fears and uncertainties that they are bound to fail. Terror roots us to the spot. As the emotions experience further damage we become more fearful and less able to take the initial step towards change. Once past the dog and the wolf, we might hide in a false ego of okayness until we have the courage to take the final step and experience happiness again.

When the tarot Moon card appears in a spread there is always fear. *Enemies--Two dogs barking at the moon. Sometimes it is quite literally a fear of the dark, or a fear of the unknown, but always a fear based on a previous negative emotional experience. Fear creates illusion. When frightened we are more likely to imagine the worst. Moonlight literally takes away all of the color from life and leaves us only with black and white. All that is receptive in human nature: the subconscious, emotions. Paying more attention to your inner self; to see the world around you. Moreover, the Moon card refers to deceit and self-deception, confinement. Which are the result of ignoring your own inner promptings. Taking care of loose ends connected to the past. If the card is closely related to a negative card in the spread it can be an indication that you are neglecting your lunar self. It is not the time to act, but the seeds of action are being planted. The moon frowning is reflecting displeasure. Be careful of getting lost in the enchanted woods. There’s a passage into the dark, distant unknown. Deception, enemies… beyond the moon is the Sun, and a new promise of hope and “light at the end of the tunnel.”

Reversed: Illusion. Forces moving under the surface of your life you are not aware of. A bad time of changes in one’s life—the soul is calling for help. The demands of the day are overwhelming you… you feel disconnected from your true self.

The Sun represents seeing everything with clarity. The wall is material world and limitation. The sunflowers above wall depend on the sun for life. The sunflowers depict all kingdoms: animal, plant, human and mineral. The sunflowers also represent earthly reflections of the sun, and they may be seen as the four minor suits, and as the fourfold world-of the four elements, the four directions, and the 4 seasons. The child represents that we are all children of God, and the child riding forward represents freedom; the banner shows victory. This card represents past work is now bearing fruit, whether the birth is of child or a creative project—the outcome is a happy one. Good things coming to you: Success, optimism, achievement. If there are negative cards around them, they still are lightened up by the sun’s appearance—always beneficial… attainment. The sun can indicate a wonderful vacation; a card of victory, achievement, and joy.

Reversed: You may not have all you want, but you don’t have problems, either.

The trumpet is a channeled message from God; Gabriel blowing his horn; the vibration, breath of God. The message is truth and understanding. The rays from horn are seven: 7 musical notes, 7 chakras. It represents all of the elements: Water, Air, Earth, Fire. The coffins represent breaking free of limited understanding. The people coming out of the coffins shows raising from the depths and going to the light, and people facing out shows awarement of what is to come. The people are grey, which represents wisdom, balance, polarities—showing them nude indicates they are unshamed; the child shows acceptance to know the state of consciousness. *This card can indicate that you are leaving in the past. The people are already dead… they are rising… you could be living in the past; same situation holding on to the same anger, the same life, the same sense of being miserable. What is being awakened is the sense of Higher Self within. Turning away from a traditional belief to one that suits better. The end of something—time to seek new direction, perhaps breaking away from your conventional way of life and belief… time for decision making. It means regeneration and rebirth after a period of confusion and a sense of confinement (the coffins) you may have been feeling in your life. The opportunity to relieve doubt, indecision, depression, and despair is ending. Rebirth, renewal, a second wind is in your life… a sense of fulfillment.

Reversed: The hope for renewal is lost; holding on the past. Refusal to take charge. It can indicate a possible loss or separation. Coping these life changes in spite of not wanting to face reality.

Clouds: Symbol meaning of clouds deal with ambiguity, mystery, and things hidden. This card depicts a hand holding a flaming torch thrust out suddenly from the clouds. This is symbolic of our ideas or energy coming out of the hidden places of our psyche and into the light of day. Clouds often deal with hidden agendas that might be keeping us in a holding pattern. They may also indicate underlying beliefs that hold us back from our being our brightest selves. Rivers: River symbol meanings deal with motion, direction, and the flow of our thoughts as well as our lives. When the river in the ace of wands Tarot card flows into our psychic vision it is a message that we must consider the direction we are taking in our lives. Mountains: Symbol meanings of mountains deal with challenges, acquisition, accomplishment and aspirations. Mountains are a symbolic allegory for us in that as we climb them, each step brings us closer to our highest point. This highest point, the top of the mountain, can be a spiritual goal, physical goal, or anything else that we aspire to reach. The mountain is unbending, and inflexible. This makes it a reminder that only we can change how we deal with challenges (because the mountain certainly isn't going to change for us). This being the case, we can embrace the lessons we gain as we take on the challenge of the mountain. We can also rest assured that the peak will always be there as we aspire ever higher to our desired results. These symbols tell a story about our life path. It's been a tough road to take with challenges and perhaps some wrong-turns in direction. We've even felt alone in our path from time to time. But dawn has broken, and the light of our internal fortitude has broken through the dim haze of our vision. We are now re-energized.

Our victory is now at hand, and our persistence is now rewarded. The ace of wands meaning is all about taking our internal creative fire in hand and holding it out far all the world to see. Now is our time to spread our warmth, passion, and vision to others. Now is our time to shine as beacons unto the world. This card is calls loudest to artists, visionaries, entrepreneurs, and those seeking to set out on a new creative path. To them, it is the "green light" card - a sign of positive encouragement, a signal to go for gusto! in their endeavors. The ace of wands Tarot card meaning deals with high volume energies bursting forth in assertive confidence; challenges. A promise of motion, direction, and positive energy building to a delightful result. New beginnings of an enterprise involving business. Planted seeds for a new birth—creative or money making idea. Freedom from restraints that occurred in the past; taking a new role. The hand of God handing you beginnings of creativity in your life.

Reversed: All process of creativity and new activity is still in the interior of your mind. Delays or rethinking to be sure it’s workable—sense of potential, but lack of resources or confidence.

Walls: Simply put, walls deal with separating one area from another. When we have a need to keep one area of our lives separate from another, the walls in the cards show themselves to us in a reading. Take a close look at the context of the "wall cards" in relation to the rest of the reading - what are the cards indicating you separate? Walls also deal with the need for privacy, this may be another consideration in your reading. Rose: A long-standing symbol of purity, promise, and beauty. The rose symbol meanings deal with the promise of new beginnings and hope. We must also take the thorns into consideration - with the promise of new hope, we may have to endure a few stinging thorns (painful ordeals) along the way. Overall, the rose is a poignant symbol of the beauty that is ready to unfold within each of our hearts, and a reminder that we must take the opportunity to savor the beauty around us.
The central figure of the card is facing west, which is esoterically symbolic of seeing into the past as a means to predict our future. Simply put, the card encourages us to take stock of past events to more prudently rule over our kingdom in the future. The card also suggests a hindrance with its presence of the brick wall. However, see how our central figure firmly places one wand on top of the wall? This symbolic gesture insures our victory over obstacles. Furthermore, the central figure grasps this wand with his left hand indicating creative, higher awareness and subconscious means should be used in dealing with potential obstacles.
The two of wands asks us to survey our surroundings, add up our assets, and then live out our driving passion from this well-educated position. It can indicate melancholy, sadness, surprise, astonishment, consternation, terror, fear, enchantment, trouble, but also on the other hand riches, fortune and magnificence, depending on the surrounding cards.
You are saying, “Yes” to the new enterprise with expectation that you’ll achieve ownership—you may have to deal with unforeseen problems or encounter unexpected obstacles. Assessing goals; willing to act… you have started and waiting end results—still you have decided to pursue this new course.

Reversed: Lack of self-confidence. Perhaps a nasty surprise. The element is “surprise.” If the surprise is good or bad it will depend on the surrounding cards.

Mountains: Seen on many of the cards, mountain symbol meanings deal with triumph, challenge, attainment, and realization. Mountains also represent timelessness and an endurance that is infinite. When those mountains peak out of the cards into our attention, we may consider the vastness of our universe, and contemplate our place within it. We may also want to consider the heights to which we are climbing, and what the realization of our goals may mean for us and those around us. Ship: ship symbol meanings deal with travel and journey's. However a commonly overlooked factor is the medium upon which they said - water - it deals with the deeper levels of the psyche and the subconscious. When Ships sail across your vision in a reading, take into consideration where your thoughts (psyche) are traveling - what kind of baggage (cargo) are you carrying around, and are you charting (navigating) out the best course for your thoughts and emotions?

The Three of Wands represents the watcher of these creative ideas we've started in our lives. You don’t, however, know who your true friends are, you are over looking but you don’t know who is behind you. From high vantage points, and with unlimited stores of resources, knowledge and time we observe the unfolding of our creative desires. No action is needed here. Rather, the movement of which Einstein speaks is the acknowledgment that time (in all its phases) is on our side and our only action is to recognize our presence as the divine overseer of our experience.

We are ambassadors of our own dreams - the Three of Wands reminds us of our nobility in this respect, and indicates all we need do is allow the royal red carpet of our manifestations to unfurl itself right at our feet.

You’ve consolidated the situation, business, or enterprise and can expect financial gain. The positive attitude may bring helpful people or circumstance. You have established a solid foundation of business or occupation and can expect cooperation. You are clear about who you are and others will respond positively.
Reversed: Most work is internal level. Things will go smoothly when going public as you have assessed.
