I think most of us have heard of Koko, the gorilla who was taught sign language from a very young age. I am on Koko's mailing list and receive periodical newsletters and journals giving me updates on Koko, her pal Ndume, (pronounced "En-Doo-May") and their future wildlife preserve which is being built on Maui. Please click on Koko's website to learn more. You can order her books, donate, or just learn more about The Gorilla Foundation. I ordered 2 books and they were delivered quite quickly! Koko has fascinated me for a long time.....tried to get to her website...but it's not available... Love, Rainbow (Went back and got it this time...gonna bookmark it for a later read....) As I said before Koko has fascinated me for a long time....In fact, gorillas in general fascinate me.... I so admired Dian Fossey and her work and friendship with the mountian gorillas...used to watch her documentaries on TV and read her stories in the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC.... Was very saddened by her murder... *sigh* I thought Sigourney Weaver did an excellent job of portraying her in GORILLAS IN THE MIST...(a movie that made me cry).....she actually got out there in the wild, with the gorillas, the same as Dian did... When I have more time....I'd like to explain my fascination with gorillas.... Love, Rainbow IP: Logged |

Dear Rainbow ~ Yeah, that movie was so sad. It is so sad what goes on in the world. Animals are mis-treated and it is plain WRONG. There were a couple of documentaries on Animal Planet about chimps. The baby chimps put their arms around each other when they walk together ~ it is the cutest thing! IP: Logged |

"Gorillas in the Mist" still makes me cry. I agree that mistreatment of animals is just "plain WRONG". I have hope that eventually all people will wake up and realize that.**** Speaking of chimps, has anyone read "A Reason for Hope" by Jane Goodall? I highly recommend it. IP: Logged |

MY FASCINATION WITH GORILLASAs a child, I used to have nightmares about gorillas. They were "monsters," "the bogeyman, " something to bring terror to my heart! *sigh*....and that's because the movies of that time, made them appear that way....and I truly did have nightmares about them...They were just about my greatest fear...*sigh* It was when Dian Fossey's articles in the Nationl Geographic were published, and her documentaries on TV were shown, that I started to lose a long entrenched and totally unjustified fear and horror of them... In fact, these gentle creatures were just the opposite of the monsters they were being portrayed as. What unfair propaganda against these creatures... The real truth about them, has held my fascination, as well as drastically changing my groundless former views about them...("and the truth shall set you free") LOve, Rainbow IP: Logged |
