This morning when I went to the Farmer's Market it was about 84 degrees. The Humane Society was at a car in the parking lot with it's windows rolled down a meer 2 inches, inside was a dog panting. He had pretty thick fur. Just want to give a heads up about dogs in warm to hot weather. This is from the current May 2004 issue of Whole Dog Journal. (these are just some points out of a long article)
- Never leave a dog in the car on a warm day, even in the shade with the windows cracked.
- If hot weather, rescheduleyour dog walks for early morning or dusk. Carry water and offer it frequently to your dog.
- Keep your dog in the shade as much as possible. Use dog-safe sunscreen on light haired and pink skinned dogs.
- When it's hot outside, bring your dog inside. If you need air conditioning, chances are your dog does too. If you must leave your dog outside, make sure he has plenty of shade, water, and ventilation.
- Never confine your dog or leave him in the sun. Use caution when leaving a crated dog under a shade awning, too. Remember that the sun moves and what was a shady spot can quickly become sun-baked.

Dunno, sure hope so. The H.S. officer was at the window of the car when I left. IP: Logged |

thanks for those tips. It makes me so mad when I see an animal in the car in a parking lot while the owner is in the store shopping. On more than one occassion I have called the humane society myself. Some people dont realize that putting their animals in this situation is abuse and could kill them...they wouldnt do that to a kid, so why do it to a dog? IP: Logged |

Unfortunatly Purplezen I have seen people do this to children as well. I have personally called the police three times for this. Last year a child died after being left in his daycare van in the summer in texas. They didn't double check the van, and didn't notice his absence for several hours. It is just as inexcuseable for pet's.------------------ ~Renee ~indecision may or may not be my problem IP: Logged |
