Breaking and entering: This "squirrel-proof" birdfeeder in North Waterboro, Maine, isn't as good as advertised.

I LOVE squirrels! One day I went to the park with a bag of Doritos Cool Ranch flavor chips and fed one to a couple of squirrels. They must have spread the word in squirrel talk, because oodles of them started coming to get their share. It probably wasn't the healthiest of indulgences for them, but they sure loved the taste. Quite a big change from those bitter acorns! After an hour or so, I had them almost coming right up to me. One squirrel came right up, placed his little paw on my hand, and took it from me. That was awesome!

cool Randall!

The other day, I saw one of the wild rabbits that hops through our backyard, and went outside with pencil and sketch pad in hand. He was munching on grass and let me get pretty close to him. He stuck around and let me draw a picture of him (her?)!!!

I'm lucky to live in such a beautiful area, surrounded by mountains and nature.

Randall,

Love your story! I love feeding wild animals by hand!!! A couple weeks ago we went to the Cheese Factory and I hand fed some Canadian Geese! It was the highlight of my day of course. Of course I talked to them, especially the one with a broken leg and gave him extra bread.

If you ever go to Vancouver, you can hand feed the squirrels in Stanley Park

26 Taurus,

You are so lucky to live in the country. That is my dream. We live about 1 block from a park we frequent, and once there was a Viszla (dog) who chased 2 wild rabbits out from under a tree. I had no idea the rabbits live there!

Has anyone ever been to New Jersey's beaches?

The seagulls are cool until you sit on the beach with food!!!
They swarm down an steal your food! While you are eating it.
A really funny thing happened one day...
My son and I were at a pond where there were geese. My son, only 8 at the time, threw an entire loaf of bread into the water for the geese. He hit one by accident and knocked it out. An innocent child just trying to help some poor birds.... He cried.
