Hi all! I'm adopting a cat tomorrow! I'm really excited, I've been wanting a cat for a long time. She's about a year old, as sweet as can be. I'm trying to think of a name for her, and I thought I'd get some suggestions. I'm thinking of something sort of understated, she's a kind of mellow and sweet- Nora, Ruthie, Lucy, Gracie... I don't know, I really want an interesting name. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks so much!IP: Logged |

Hi eight degrees,How exciting!! I had a cat a few years ago and my cat actually kind of told me what she wanted her name to be. I was trying to think of a name and couldnt come up with one. She was so cute - all black. One day I came home from work and she had gotten up on the shelf where I had my tarot cards and knocked them over. The cards were spread out all over the floor - all upside down EXCEPT for the Magician card. I picked it up and it had all these little teeth marks and holes on it. All of the other cards were fine. I was kind of freaked but thought "This is a sign!!!" And I named her Magic. I miss my little Magic Cat. Ask for a sign of what her name should be and keep your eyes and ears open. Let us know what you choose! IP: Logged |

I once had a mellow and sweet calico cat I named Dinah - Alice's kitty from Alice in Wonderland. I was feeling particularly "Through the Looking Glass" at the time so it seemed to fit. She was quite good natured and shy but perked right up when I would sing to her - "Diiinah is there anything fiiina then to be in Caroliiina ...." A forgiving cat too, I should add, because I am tone deaf. IP: Logged |

Well I got my girl! She's laying down on the desk next to me... scratch that, now she's in my lap. She has 6 toes! I've always loved 6-toed cats. She seems a little shocked at the change in location but overall fine. I'm going to meditate on the name for a while to see what fits. Aphrodite- it's funny that you suggested Annie- my mom's name is Ann and Annie had occurred to me. And my sister has a cat named Zoe. Oh what about Zora? That's sort of cute.... I have a feeling it'll be a few days before I settle on something. IP: Logged |

Remember the shoe polish 'Cherry Blossom'?My dear grandmother, who I only met as a baby and communicated with through letters; named her darling black cat that, after the shiny black polish IP: Logged |

It's fun to let kids think up names. They come up with pretty off the wall stuff. The kids have named our cats.We have Mau Kitty, Little, and Shegwa (or new little addition). We've also had Hello Kitty (she was black... go fig) and Stashio (he had a mustash) *edit* Oh yeah... and Ariel, the male kitty my youngest insisted was a girl. IP: Logged |

I love Ancient History, so I named my cat Alexander (the Great), because he was, well, great! We named my mom's cat Maxwell because he reminded us of Maxwell Smart - he wasn't the brightest kitty, and was always getting into trouble, but he was sweet as could be.I think like the others said, either look for a sign or name kitty after something that means a lot to you, that fits their personality somewhat.
