Wildlife Works, which started in San Francisco in 1997 and is now based in Sausalito, operates the Rukinga Wildlife Sanctuary in Kenya, an 80,000 acre stretch of bush land to protect native species. Although it is illegal, the bush meat trade in Kenya is flourishing, and WW's purpose is to attempt to stop it. Poachers use wire snares to catch the animals. At nearby Tsavo East National Park, 30,000 to 180,000 animals are snared each year.
