Jase called me early today: "Hey, honey, how would you feel about having a cat?" "A...cat...?" "Yeah. This Captain on hold (awaiting re-admittance into the Army's flight program pending the conclusion of some medical stuff) has to get rid of his cat." "...Why?" thinking, "Yeah...great...a cat that pees all over the place...woonderful...nuthin' like the smell of cat urine to get your blood flowing!" "Hm. I dunno. His wife doesn't like animals or something. I'll ask him."(A bit later...) "OK, here's the deal: The wife's just not an animal person. The Captain wants to find a good home for the cat because, 'Hey, it's my cat - he needs a good home.' He's black and white, neutered, and - I know you're not going to like this - declawed, chipped, doesn't need shots til this July, he's really good about the litter, great with both the guy's 5-year-old and the new baby, the only problem's that he'll wake the baby up when he's in his carrier by batting the carrier." I said, "Well...let's see. Ask if it's OK if we come over and see the him a bit later." We did, and he's the most affectionate little guy. He didn't even know us, and he came up and rubbed against us and purred, even going up to an incredibly excited Meg. I even watched as he sat placidly (ok, with minor annoyance) while the family's little boy kept clamping something to his tail. We're going to go pick him and his supplies - they're giving us his litter, his automatic feeder and water bowl, a carrier, a wee kitty condo, and various other cat things - tomorrow. IP: Logged |

Cats are so great - nothing completes a warm, cozy scene like a cat.The only problem is naming them. I've had one for years ( just found it on my doorstep one morning ), and I still haven't named her. I just call her kitty... Anyway, congrats - and if you can come up with a name, your set! I like Charlie better than Liberty. My cat was named Magic. A sleek all black kitty. I came home one day and she had knocked my Tarot Cards off of a shelf and the only one rightside up was the Magician card. There were little bite marks in it. So that's how she got her name. I had to give her up because I had to move and couldnt get a place that accepted pets. It's so annoying to me - up here in New England if youre a renter, it's REALLY hard to find a place that allows pets. I think it's awful. There are so many homeless pets out there that need good homes. But the landlords worry about property damage and whatnot. I lived down south in Florida awhile ago and noticed that almost all apartments allowed pets. I thought that was great, although there were alot more cases of animal neglect down there. People having TOO many pets, and not able to take care of them. That's sad too. One day I'll own a house, have a yard and a bunch of furry friends. How did it go today prox? How's kitty liking her new home? IP: Logged |

26t - I'm sorry about Magic I hope he's doing well in his new home.It want fine yesterday. We (Meg and I) went to pick him up at about 3 and stayed until 4:30, me talking to the Mom (nice lady) and Meg flirting with the 5-year-old son. Charlie was brought back just as Jase was coming home. I showed C where the litter box is, and he's used it successfully several times since then (yay!). He is an active, curious cat - playing in our blinds and thumping through closets during the early part of last night - so I'm betting that that's why the Captain's wife reconsidered having him, but he's a perfect fit for our house. I'll see if I can get a pic of him today. Sheaa - HA! I was considering Oscar before I met him, too. I think Charlie fits him. He's a rambunctiously clumsy kitty, and Charlie seems like a clumsy name. Johnny - Hey, sorry I didn't give ya a hail and welcome over in FFA. I kept meaning to, but then something'd come up when I'd get almost there. Your name reminds me of my husband - he's a big fan of the Ramones. Then on some thread in GU I saw that you said something to the effect of "Don't worry 'bout me." Too funny. And I think that Kitty is a fine name.
