Horse Rescue of Americaplease write to the bureau of land management asap requesting a stop to this bill -- next month a bill legalizing the slaughter of wild horses and burros on all public lands will take effect. the above link features an in-depth video explaining the issue, including an instance of concerned people requesting then-president Ronald Reagan to stop the shooting of 1000 wild horses, which he did. so this too may be reversed -- with enough immediate action. godspeed.

OMG!!! Thank You Saffron. I do so, very much LOVE horses. The fact that politics are behind it, makes it easy to believe. 14" thick!!! Dropped on a desk with true ' politician ' timeing too. I'm still in tears. My only memories of my childhood, are those of my, dearest friend; my heart. In fact, had my Dad not had a, serious, fit in, total, unacceptance, my daughter would have been given the name, Gypsy, in honor of that great Spirit, in a horse I loved..... Thanks, to you Saffron, many times over. I will pass this along to all I know. ~ geminstone IP: Logged |

hi Nephthys ~there is some text copy of the situation on the site; it's just a summary though...all the information is in the video, including the fact that even 'adoption' most likely ends in slaughter. i'll include it below. i would recommend watching the video when possible. i have cable internet and the medium, which is suggested for cable internet connection, didn't work. i had to use the high speed which worked very well. you really need sound though, to hear the very sad story. quote: Dear Colleague,25% of the landmass of the lower 48 states is public land which is controlled by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The states and US Forest Service control additional public land. This land is leased to “investors” who either run cattle on the land, or charge cattle ranchers a hefty fee to run their cattle on this land – your land – wildlife land – wild horse land! In order to make it worthwhile to the 3.2 million cattle, there has to be a lot of grass to eat. The government says that deer, elk and wild horses & burros can’t eat the grass any more – it’s only for privately owned cattle. So they shoot the deer and elk, and they round up the wild horses and burros for “adoption.” Shockingly, we just found out during the recent elections that Congressmen don’t read the bills they vote on! Well, the Friday before Thanksgiving, Congressmen woke up to a 14-inch thick budget bill and they voted it into law – without reading it! And guess what? A Senator sneaked in a few pages changing the law about wild horses - and when the President signs the bill on Monday, the government will be able to get rid of all the wild horses and burros in America even by selling them to slaughter houses. The 3.2 million cattle amount for only 2.5%of US beef consumption. The 32,000 horses equal about 1% of the cattle. And after the holocaust, we will continue paying about $100,000,000 in subsidies to the ranchers and investors who graze their cattle on our land. Our only chance is for the President to use his veto power to prevent the largest wholesale slaughter of horses in North America. Horses like “Missy.” With love for the animals, Leo Grillo actor, rescuer December 2, 2004

Dear Saffron,Thank you for posting the information. It is so, so sad. I don't get how so many men can be so cold-hearted and non-empathetic. I just don't get it. Let us all pray for the horses and all other animals who suffer the doom of slaughter due to the hand of man IP: Logged | |
