Hi everyone,I wondered if anyone knew what this could be. One of our Ridgebacks, Mose, has much ear discharge in one ear. He has always had trouble with this ear since he was a pup. We think it's because he had a ID tattoo on it as a puppy. We've treated it with eardrops etc over the years. Recently, however, we've noticed splothces of waxy red on the wall after he shakes his head. My father noticed a great deal of this mixed with more blood in his ear the other day and rushed him to the vet who took a sample of it yesterday. The vet has no real answer for what it could be and wondered if anyone had heard of such a thing? We are worried because he's just turned 11 - a delicate age for a big lad - healthy as he may be otherwise. Thanks guys, Sheaa ------------------ "From what we get we can make a living. http://www.barkbytes.com/medical/med0058.htm http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_ear_infections.html Those are some links on doggie ear problems, though I'm not sure if what your doggie has is there. I've never heard of that before. I really hope whatever it is clears up soon, either on its own or with treatment whenever you all find out what it is. Please be sure to let us know how he's doing. ------------------ "This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man." - Shakespeare IP: Logged |

Did the Vet give any medications/antibiotics? Sounds like he definitely needs antibiotics! Maybe try another Vet, if your's doesn't give any answers. Sounds serious enough to see another vet. IP: Logged |

Well, the test results aren't back as yet. He's doing OK regardless ~ he follows my dad around constantly nowadays, gets upset if dad's out of sight for a 2 minutes! *puppy* (an 11 year old one) I appreciate the links Eleanore, thank you - it may explain a few things. He did have an irritation in that ear since he had a tattoo on it as a pup. Nephthys ~ he has been given some tablets ~ and the excess does seemed to have stopped, but we'll have to see what the test results say I guess. How's Jasmine? 26 & Randall ~ loves ya Wish I could stay for tea, but shall be back to visit presently

Dear Sheaa,Glad your pooch is doing better. Jasmine is well, thank you. She constantly wants attention and needs an activity often. She had a good weekend. Saturday went to Miller Creek and Sunday went on a hike to Sleepy Hollow. I wrote you an e-mail about a month ago. Did you ever get it????????? ~N. IP: Logged |

Randall, Thank you!! She is getting a haircut on Friday a.m. Then we'll stop at the Humane Society on the way back to pick out a few treats. They have a really good store there with better prices than Petco/style stores. And of course I'll check out the cats waiting to be adopted. I can't take her into the dogs area so I can't check those guys out. (Not that I am allowed to get another pet or anything) IP: Logged |
