On the eve of the eclipse the cat my mother has been feeding for the past month carried 4 adorable kittens into our backyard to live. We cant keep all five cats, already have enough humans to feed as it is. Is it true that animal shelters put animals to sleep if they dont find a home after a month or so? IP: Logged |

... unfortunately, DayDreamer, 'no-kill' shelters are not the majority... as far as I am aware anyway. I know of only 1 fairly close to where I live but, the main local shelter is not a 'no-kill' facility. These 4 kittens are the litter of the cat your mother has been feeding? Guess that sounds a bit dumb but, I'm just wondering for the sake of nursing... I just went through the same kind of experience, with the sweet cat that adopted us last summer... She had a litter of 4, bringing our cat housemates number to 6! Plus we also have a dog, and then the 4 of us....phew!! I have to say, in my experience, it was the litterbox up-keep that was insane! We ended up keeping 2 of the kittens anyway Hope things work out for you and the kitties ~ geminstone IP: Logged |

Hi geminstone,The majority of shelters aren't "no-kill" shelters? Thats a shocker!! We were a little unsure if she was the mother as well because she didn't look pregnant. But we can tell she's been nursing, so they must be hers. They've been staying in our backyard and sleeping in the shed for the past week or so. Id hate to break them up but it's going to be getting cold soon. Guess we'll just have to put out an add in the newspaper or something...Thanks IP: Logged |

I hate to be a downer, but you have to be careful with adverts in the paper, as well. There are people - Class B Dealers - who will take animals from "free to good home" ads, only to sell them to laboratories for testing. You might be able to find a no-kill shelter or rescue in your area, through http://www.petfinder.com . (Here's a link to Dealing Dogs, a website about one B dealer in particular that Last Chance For Animals were able to crack down on). IP: Logged |
