I recently adopted my 5th, yes 5 of em' dogs. She would have been put down as a 3 month old puppy due to mishandling misunderstanding. She belonged to one of my daughter's friends...Now I am in love--- She is supposed to be a Chow/Pitt Bull mix, but looks mostly Chow to me--black tongue and all. She is VERY protective and can be agressive. The first day I had her she drew blood on me and my youngest daughter. Now she is a sweetheart, but I have noticed her protectiveness when in the midst of the pack ie: she gets agressive (at a whole 4 months) when the others come around me and when a stranger enters my house she barks and growls like nothing I have ever witnessed! Anybody with any Chow experience?? I have researched them on the internet and from what I can see, this is the house dog for me--my others enjoy a very large, wooded back yard. She was born on Halloween! IP: Logged |

Congratulations, Hippi!!!! When I was a 'teen I had a friend who had a Chow Chow and it was very aggressive; they kept the dog in a child's playpen! But they were NOT dog people at all, so I don't consider their situation a good example. Amazing that she was born on Halloween. Do a search on Dog Sun Signs ~ they are usually right on. IP: Logged |

Chows are supposed to be "one person" dogs. They are guardian dogs, fiercely loyal and possessive- it sounds as if your dog is doing exactly what it was meant to do. They were used by the Mongolians as watchdogs, guardians, and hunters. I love Chow Chows. MK IP: Logged |

Much thanks, ladies---I think since she is young she should get along with my other 4 nicely, and she does when they are in the pack themselves. I do not often have people into my home so agression with strangers will not bother me and is, really, being a single mom with two teenage daughters, may be a good thing.. When I look into her eyes, through the fuzzy, orange and black Chow face, and she lowers her ears, relaxes and takes in the love----I can not imagine someone feeling the need to put her down without giving her a chance--- Blessings Terri IP: Logged | |
