I was born with asthma. cats and dogs have always been a trigger for me. I have currently developed allergies and they trigger that as well. But I love them so much. Any advice on how to own a dog or cat without compromising my health???------------------ Yes i'm a capricorn with an aries moon and gemini rising. oh yea... IP: Logged |

I dont know if are open to meds but Zyrtec works really well against all allergies. Dogs and Cats included. You will need a script. Singular might work better. because it it is for asthma and allergies. This Also needs a script IP: Logged |

It is usually the dander that people are allergic to. The dead skin cells that come off with the fur when the animal sheds. One thing I know that you can do to lessen the affect of allergin, is to Wash Your Hands after you touch an animal. Dont touch your face until you wash your hands.IP: Logged |

Bluemoon is right in that its usually the dander and/or their saliva (dried or wet) that triggers allergies in people. I myself am allergic to cats, i have two. Some breeds of dogs affect me as well, esp is they are dirty dogs. I do zactly as she says, and wash my hands. I must wash my hands at least 20 times a day. If you are not wanting to use prescription meds, then i would suggest benadryl - which seems to work for alot of people. And to wash ur hands after coming in contact with them. There's also cats that are allergen free ... i forget the breed. But supposedly people with strong allergies to cats can own one with no problems to their health. Hmmm, but then about the asthma - I'm not really sure .... ang- IP: Logged |

Unfortunatly thats the down side of Benedryl ... s friend of mine has bad allergies and he refuses to take Benedryl unless he's planning on going to bed simply for that reason. I'm not really sure what other allergy meds are out there on the market - non precription wise. I just deal with it for the most part. Although I dont have asthma along with it ... Have you looked up any natural remedies? IP: Logged |

Nope i haven't. I figured that I would leave things like that to the more experienced seeing as though asthma can be a life threating disease.------------------ Yes i'm a capricorn with an aries moon and gemini rising. oh yea... IP: Logged |

Make sure they are brushed once a day to remove loose hairs that may fall around the house.Vacuum hairs off furniture. Do not touch any part of your face after petting them because all it takes is one inhale for the hairs to go up your nose.
