Hi everyonemy Shitzu has very sensitive ears especially the right one and vet has given me this ointment to put in it for 10 consecutive days. I have done this so many times over the past 3 or so years....anyone have an alternative solution. It gets itchy and his whole ear goes red and smelly. The med helps until it starts up again in a couple months or so Sometimes it happens on the other ear as well. His skin seems itchy as well but he has no fleas or mites or anything like that....I wash him with oatmeal shampoo. Thanks for any help you can offer Mystique IP: Logged |

Did he give an ear wash, as well as the ointment? I use Epi-Otic ear cleanser on my Spaniel, and then apply the Otomax ear ointment. Another ear cleaner I have is Veterinarian's Best Ear Relief Wash & Ear Relief Dry. These are made from all natural, gentle ingredients. I don't really use these much, I use the Epi-Otic more for general cleaning, because it is stronger and Spaniel ears get chronic infections. You need to clean the ears on a regular basis. After the 10 days, you need to clean the ears every 3-4 days, (1-2 times a week, at minimum,) to check them and make sure no infection is starting up again. You can't just do nothing, not clean regularly, and then wait until another infection starts. You have to stay on top of it. Good luck! IP: Logged |
