Well, not really. Yesterday, a baby bird was on my doorstep. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to pick it up (and put the human scent on it preventing its mother from coming back to help it), because the neighbor's cat is on the prowl. It wouldn't eat the formula I bought, but today it ate a whole bunch. I think it will be okay. My baby Loves to chirp! It can't fly yet, but it should be able to leave the "nest" in a couple of weeks. ------------------ "Thus shall ye think of all this fleeting world: A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream; A flash of lightning in a summer cloud, A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream." The formula is downstairs (can't recall the name), but it's a powder that you mix with water and feed with a dropper. It looks YUMMY! I think it's a finch. OK then... take a picture of the wee babe (with you?) - let us see - ... and aren't all baby *little* birds tiny? Do you have mature finches that live in your yard? Seems like whatever kind/s you do have in your trees or eaves, the babe is most likely one of them ------------------ "...it came in on the sweetest breeze... i could hear it in color..." ~me IP: Logged |

Oh, yea, Randall...I forgot to tell you (Purple is right) baby birds poop ten times more than adults. Welcome to 'daddyland' You might want to go out in the yard and dig up some fat juicy grubs to feed 'Junior'. I think you have to chew them first... Princess... ------------------

Can't kill any grubs. My baby will have to be a vegetarian. I sure could use some bird diapers, though. ------------------ "Thus shall ye think of all this fleeting world: A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream; A flash of lightning in a summer cloud, A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream." I once found a white canari. He was so tamed, he would fly through the room and come on my shoulder or finger. Happy Fathers' Day! IP: Logged |

I have a funny bird story to tell...my best friend Erin and her husband had a bird build a nest in the wreath on their front door...they were finches. She put a birdhouse nearby thinking the bird would go in there but she didn't know the bird had laid eggs and had no way to get the eggs into the other bird house....since my friend knows you're not supposed to disturb the nest, she let them stay there. One night I was at their house and Erin and I went to go to the video store...Erin opened the front door and closed it really fast...and said to me...do you mind if we go out the back door? The bird is staring at me...and I don't want to disturb it when it's nesting on the eggs. It was soooooo funny!!! IP: Logged |

About an hour ago (at exactly 3:00 am) my bird let out a single chirp to say goodbye to me and then fell over and died. I finally stopped crying. I couldn't understand why the Uni-verse brought the bird to me if it was going to die anyway, but in my Heart I am sure that there was a reason. I gave the bird an extra two days of Life. It was too weak to fly, and I had hoped to give it the time to grow strong, but the Uni-verse had other plans. It must have had a Heart defect of some type. I did everything I could. I named the bird Baby. I Loved Baby so much. Maybe my Love gave Baby an individual Soul, so that it won't be absorbed into the Oversoul but will continue to exist on the other side. I will never forget Baby. Baby will be forever in my memories and in my Heart, and that will allow Baby to Live on. I held a funeral a few minutes ago and buried the empty shell in the ground after saying a special prayer. I can only hope that I made Baby's last days happy ones. Somehow, someway, in my Heart I k-NOW that Baby's energy is with my grandfather on the other side, and now Baby can fly as high and as far as any other bird ever has. ------------------ "Thus shall ye think of all this fleeting world: A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream; A flash of lightning in a summer cloud, A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream." Oh how my heart soared when I started reading this thread and oh how it broke when Baby died. In ancient Pictish tradition, a baby bird found in the entrance to a home was considered to be a harbinger of fortune. It fortold a death in the near future. If the bird survived, it meant that someone known to the finder would soon die, if the bird died, it meant that the bird had taken the place of the one who would have died. Any who found such a creature was honour-bound to do their utmost to help the wee one survive, to do any less would cause the gods to be angry and take the life he who neglected his duty to to the wind god. I hope this knowledge helps you to heal, I also hope that it makes sense because I am typing through a Morphine haze
unto you Randall ------------------ I have loved,I love,I will love. Grey IP: Logged |

Your words bring tears to my eyes, Grey. Thank you for sharing that legend with me. My little bird gave its Life so unselfishly. I wrote a poem about my bird called Baby. Have read it? It's in the Free-for-all Forum. It's the only poem I've written in many years. ------------------ "Thus shall ye think of all this fleeting world: A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream; A flash of lightning in a summer cloud, A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream." It takes a very strong emotional burst for me to write poetry, and I usually try to maintain temperate emotions. So, I probably won't write poetry again for a long while. ------------------ "Thus shall ye think of all this fleeting world: A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream; A flash of lightning in a summer cloud, A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream." OH RANDALL I had a similar experience a year back. It was a baby sparrow. It was fighting for its life. I tried my best Randall but the baby survived for one single day. The day the baby sparrow died I just couldn't stop crying. You just brought back the memories of the little one. Sahana
