I was unsuccessful at making food for my dog, which upset me quite a bit. How wrong can you go with chicken giblets and rice??? At any rate, she refuses to eat it. I'm sure the skunks and raccoons outside won't be so picky. Does anyone have recipes for homemade pet food their pets love?IP: Logged |

Wow, sorry to hear she won't eat it. My dog eats everything except cucumbers, zuchini, and celery. That is the only homemade food I know of too; cooking chicken (or hamburger meat) and mixing with rice. If you need to try a new dog food, my dog loves "Taste of the Wild"........just a suggestion if she won't eat anything....... IP: Logged |

Thank you, Nepthys. She eats canned food but I wanted to switch her over to homemade. I'll give the "Taste of the Wild" a try.IP: Logged |

I hear TOTW is awesome and many picky pooches seem to like it. Also, you can try mixing yogurt, oatmeal, boiled eggs and even cottage cheese with the rice / chicken giblets. We feed Rocky dry food (Beneful) with only a teaspoon of Beneful wet food (plus 2 cups of dry) in the evenings and then he gets two cups of dry food in the morning.I like to give him frozen and regular apple, nectarine, watermelon and banana slices. Here is a good site: http://www.pet-grub.com/ I'm also on a labrador retriever board that has a whole section on homemade food that is pretty much designed for labs. Please let me know if you would like any recipes from there as well. IP: Logged |

Thank you, Bears! The recipe you suggested sounds really good. And Peanut loves oatmeal and yogurt! I should try that one.IP: Logged |

You have to be very careful with garlic and onions- especially in the powder form because it is so highly concentrated. Both are toxic to canines. A very small amount may be fine, but toxicity levels vary in individual animals. One more thought Yin. Have you tried boiling the meat and then using the water to steam the rice? I had to do that when Rocky had diarrhea and simply boiled chicken, then used the stock for the rice. I didn't add any salt, pepper or other spices and he gulped it down. IP: Logged |

Peanut's good. She's been eating her usual kibble and canned food. I'm yet to try the "Taste of the Wild" food. IP: Logged |
