Period. It is so demeaning to call an intelligent, sentient and much wiser being a "pet". It implicitly assumes that we own the being and that they're inferior to us or something like that! I never thought about it like that...........I am a huge animal lover, so I use the words: animal pet wildlife to distinguish depending on the context..... IP: Logged |

LOL.. Love both cats and dogs. Funny how cats have this "I own the castle" attitude. I had a cat a few years back that used to lift his tail, walk right by the dog who was laying down, and stick his butt in the dogs face. Then just walk off like "yeah, that's right" lol. The dog would just lay there like "whatever"... gotta luv em

I personally preferfriend or companion or mate, as in Aussie english i.e, a good friend. ------------------ Look down at me and you'll see a fool. Look up at me and you'll see your god. Look straight at me and you'll see yourself. IP: Logged |

I don't know that I have ever referred to our furbabies as "pets". I always say "we have 3 cats- give their names- and a pup- give his name". To me, they mean so much more than what "pet" can even define. They are my friends, my babies, my protectors and at times, my pain in the rear end LOL.. IP: Logged |
