Great Post MoonWitch. I am posting a link that also has Holiday Cautionary information for pets: http://www.sniksnak.com/holidays.html Also, here is a list of what Dogs can safely eat (please keep in mind that Apples need to be corred- NO seeds but the rest of the apple is fine). Black beans Cannelloni beans Garbanzo beans Kidney beans Lentils Lima Beans Pinto beans Apples Bananas Blueberries Cherries Cranberries Kiwi Melons Oranges Peaches Pears Plums Prunes Raspberries Strawberries Asparagus Beets Broccoli Brussel Sprouts Bean Sprouts Cabbage Carrots Cauliflower Celery Cucumber Beet greens Chard Collards Escarole Kale Mixed salad greens Mustard greens Rabe Romaine Spinach Turnip greens Eggplant Green beans Mushrooms Okra Parsley Peas Peapods Snow peas Green, Red and Yellow Peppers Potatoes Pumpkin Summer squash Sweet potatoes Yams Tomatoes Turnip Winter squash Zucchini __________________ As for chocolate, if a medium sized dog happens to eat a few pieces, don't panic. However, any small amount for a small dog (especially baker's chocolate) can induce a toxicity and can be fatal. IP: Logged |

It's amazing that people feed their animals these things for years not knowing they are toxic. I had an aunt who used to feed her schnauzer little bits of chocolate as treats...all the time! Milk & dark. The dog would beg for it!A miniature schnauzer for pete's sake. Small dog...the smaller the dog, the darker the chocolate, the greater the toxicity risk. That dog lived to be about 14 though. Not a bad age, but he may have lived longer without the slow poisoning. My mom thought she was doing a good thing by feeding the family puppy fruits and veggies. I warned her about grapes (which was feeding her because they are always around, my mother loves grapes). I only recently learned that grapes and raisins were toxic to dogs. IP: Logged |

I agree Star. We had a poodle / terrier that ate about a dozen Christmas cookies and some fudge (and hid about 5 more in my shoes in the closet) and she lived to be 14 years as well. Also, in Germany we had landlords that ran a kennel / boarding business and they also had 3 apple trees. Their dogs and the boarders would eat almost the entire apple and never got sick but I'm a paranoid momma and don't want Rocky to eat the seeds (Cyanide). The grape / Raisen toxicity is fairly new and has to do with the amount (same as chocolate). I remember my grandmother feeding our dog leftovers mixed with dog food. Like I said before, our pup lived a very long and happy life IP: Logged |

Wow! I didn't know a lot of those! I knew about chocolate, though. ------------------ "The earth is not given to us by our mothers and our fathers, it is borrowed from our children." IP: Logged |
