http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110421/ap_on_fe_st/us_odd_saltwater_cat NEW YORK – Did a calico cat from New Jersey swim across New York Harbor? The mystery surrounds a white, orange and black feline that arrived last weekend on Governors Island in New York. Security guards found the cat on the island's north shore. Its fur was salty, matted and caked with seaweed. A Governors Island spokeswoman, Elizabeth Rapuano, tells the Daily News that workers there have a theory: They think the cat managed to swim to safety after being swept up in torrential rains in New Jersey. That's over a mile away. Rapuano said the calico is a great addition to the 172-acre island but will welcome any leads that would help find the owner. The city is developing the island. Plans include a waterfront promenade and 87 acres of green space. Information from: Daily News, http://www.nydailynews.com

Go kitty Cats are actually very good swimmers. I had a white American Shorthair that would wander down to the river, swim/float under the bridge to get a short cut to the campers yummy refuse. ------------------ ~The Earth Laughs In Flowers~ ... Emerson IP: Logged |

------------------ "All deaths are suicides, do you realize that? Every single one. The only distinction is that, with some people, suicide is a subconscious choice, and with others it's a conscious choice. Otherwise, those who commit suicide and those who succumb to accident, illness or "old age," die for exactly the same reason: belief in the inevitability of death." Linda Goodman IP: Logged |

Cats generally dislike water, so people forget how great swimmers they are.------------------ "To avoid criticism, say nothing, do nothing, be nothing." Aristotle IP: Logged |

That cat is really one of a kind, not only are calico cats unique. I bet that cat might even be a rare male calico. IP: Logged |
