Absolutely heart-wrenching. I am so sorry for your loss. quote: Originally posted by RegardesPlatero: My little sweetie doggie passed away this evening.Apparently if he had not been put down tonight, he would have died in the very near future--he was very, very sick. I'll spare you the details, but suffice to say that the vet didn't have to examine him at all to know what was best--it was THAT bad. I had about an hour after work to spend with him. I wanted to cheer him up and send him off happy. I told him (and I know that this is going to sound really stupid) about all of the cool dogs and celebrities that he will see in heaven--Benji, Asta, all of them can be his friends. I told him that he's going to be this really cool dog that people up there would want to know. He can see my grandmother. I told him to mind and to be good and that God would be good to him, that God loves him. I told him about all of the funny things that he did, and thanked him for everything. I just petted him and held him for awhile and then he was taken to the vet (I didn't go with the people taking him; I just couldn't handle it). He apparently was in a lot of pain, and would have been in absolute agony had he not passed tonight. He was spared a great deal of suffering. I'm feeling calm now, but I've been all over the place. One minute I'm goofing off and being silly, distracting myself. The next I'm crying. The next I'm calm and comforting my parents. I'm grateful to all of you for being so supportive. It means a lot.

It is not easy to loose a beloved pet but I have lost many over my lifetime. The first dog I ever personally had was a beautiful little girl who lived to be 19, after she passed on-and I kid you not--she was a spirit in my house-I could see her form run down the hallway and at night when I went to bed-her form layed at the foot of my bed-she stayed with me until I got another dog.IP: Logged |

What are you guys naming him?

For sure. I still have a locket with a pic of my Aries doggie. How does he behave to make you think he doesn't like you?Maybe he has trust issues and withdrawing for the time being? That can happen sometimes when you adopt a dog from a shelter. I think he'll come around, just give him time to get use to you.

I'll go to pet him, and he'll not only run away from me, but he'll get down and look like he's about to pounce or something. [edit: I talked to my brother about it; he thinks that he is playing or something or trying to, so I'll try to see if that's it]He won't always come by me, either. Again, I have NEVER EVER EVER harmed this dog, and have never been mean to him. I've tried hard to be friends. I don't understand why he's like this. IP: Logged |

Hope the dog's change in behavior towards you is only temporary. IP: Logged |

Prior abuse can make a dog like that. He will learn to trust again over time. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca Clark IP: Logged |
