For one Shepherd in South America, the death of his owner in 2006 has triggered memories of a famous Japanese dog Hachiko. Hachiko's owner died suddenly and the loyal dog waited every day near the train station for him to come home. Despite the attempts of families to adopt him, Hachiko refused to go home with them, and died near waiting for his master. Hachiko's fame resulted in a statue of him that was erected in 1934 to honor his undying loyalty. Goes to show, it is never just a dog. You can doubt the love of a person but never the love of a dog.Yahoo News! contributor Eric Pfeiffer recently covered the story of another very dedicated German Shepherd named Capitan. In 2006, Capitan's owner died and since then the German Shepherd has demonstrated the same devotion. What is even more telling is that the dog knew his owner's grave despite having never been there before. Once he located his master's resting place, Capitan has never left. He continues to stand guard at the grave, amazing the cemetery groundskeepers and his master's widow and family. The family of the late Miguel Guzman are amazed how Capitan found the grave. Luckily for the dog, he is welcome to stay by the cemetery staff who are helping feed and care for him. Sometimes the human-animal bond is just too strong. Dogs really are man's best friend, in life and death. http://www.examiner.com/article/german-shepherd-continues-to-guard-late-master-s-grave IP: Logged |
