Long time no see! I missed you and welcome back! The fur face is indeed gorgeous and I`m sending him to Heathcliffs Corner. Maybe someone there will know what s/he is. ------------------ We need to listen to our own song, and share it with others, but not force it on them. Our songs are different. oh - I don't stop by here often - so, hello animal lovers!!! <3 But, I saw this post in LLC 2.0 And, the adorable critter seems to match up well with this lovely (but pesty) lone survivor with a really sad "common" (nonscientific) name... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edible_dormouse At first I thought maybe he was a baby flying squirrel - but their noses are squarish not so pointy - and a bit hooked... (father kept one for many years, Dudette.) But, the eyes gave it away - the light ring and doe-eyedness - I felt absolutely certain he's a dormouse - but which... since I'm use to the brown coated ones... and they're tinier I think. (Alice in Wonderland fan, yep). lol Anyway - I think this is your fella' - special buggers~ "glis glis" is cool but I don't think I'll ever call them... *ahem* edible.... /smh *___* this one looks a bit dingy - or maybe wet (unless he really is ill)? The coat isn't very clean looking, I mean! But, he's still really cute with those lovable big eyes! haha (he's a Pisces dormouse, I bet ya!!! haha!!!!)

That's an eastern pygmy possum: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_pygmy_possum Took me a while to narrow down his species, but I've worked with opossums before and I immediately recognized his uniquely opossumy paws, nostrils and eyes. Their paws are much more dextrous than rodents, hence they have longer digits, and that lets them climb better. Their nostrils are higher up on the nose, allowing them to sniff the air to track food sources rather than nostrils that point toward the ground, like with rodents that forage. And their eyes protrude further out the sockets than rodents, as they have less acute vision and so their eyes have to take in as much light as possible. Here's another pic of one--apparently these types of flowers are a primary food source for them (they primary feed on pollen and nectar from flowering trees): IP: Logged |
