This baby pigeon was found in a drain so I took it home. It sat on my shoulder the whole time Any clue what to feed him? I have seeds and moistened bread that it refused. I am intending to let him go when he starts flying IP: Logged |

awwww I love pigeons, they can be tamed easily. He might stick around too. I can't diagnose his problem you'll have to do some research or take him in somewhere.I hope he feels better! IP: Logged |

Bread isn't really good for him. He probably needs something special like what you might find at a shop that sells parrots and similar birds. Something liquid for really young birds and a special eye drop type feeder.IP: Logged |

Oh yeah he could be diseased I didn't think of that either... LMFAO our mothers would be disappointed. If you live in the city there are probably people around who keep pigeons coups maybe you could contact one and leave him there. I'm sure they would know what to do and have the right resources. Noo I didn't want to see this one in a cage. If they're in a bird shop his life is gone.. I thought I could feed it but Dan he is very picky :/

No coups aren't bad, long ago people kept carrier pigeons some people still keep them around as a hobby. Most of the time the pigeons are free to come and go but these people feed them and give them a place to sleep.Thou I have to admit it's probably smelly and noisy and a doubt many landlords would deal with that, plus there are probably crazy people who lock them up... There aren't pigeon coups in my neck of the forests Kero. I'm not sure what they do with pigeons I don't think they would sell. It's only bird shops. Pigeons are found in the wild but only if they can fly. This pitiable fella I have here can't fly and he was also very sweet that's why I took him home. But I don't want it lol. I will try oats later n if it refuses to eat then it has to go

Feed him watered down cat food, it mimics the texture of the food they normally get as babies, I learned this from a neighbor veterinary I lived near. You would have to put alittle on the end of a plastic spoon and put it near his beak to get at. IP: Logged |

Aweee what a cutie. I have found many especially babies. Did u see if the mom was near by?Where do u live? That baby doesnt eat like adults do.
The mom feeds it from the mouth. Ur gonna have to get some food in it soon or it can die. Usually the mommys around. I usually panick when i get the babies and bring them to animal general by central park or the wild bird fund.

Thanks for moving Randall, didnt kno there was a pet forum Ok this bird is very difficult. It ate the soaked dog fd but very little. Just didnt wanna eat where I gave it, whether its the end of a spoon or my hand. What it does is mimic the feed ing gestures of a fledging but it's random and doesn't get it any food. Otherwise it's already been tamed. It was fat when I found it, not sure why it doesn't feed well here. Hmm
Well when I found it the parents were not nearby at all. If they were I wld kno. IP: Logged |

He is gone now. I think it just moved around too much and someone took it away. God I miss this bird. It was prematurely taken away. I thought I could give it a chance at survival look what happened! I don't want it to be dead now :/IP: Logged |

It's not mine anyways. Plus it's not dumb; if it was it'll still be stuck at my place. So it's gone and I believe it can survive! IP: Logged |

You're right Randall. If it flew off I would be most happy. Thanks LC. It don't belong to me. But the short experience with it shows it can be endearing. Loved to perch on my finger. It shat everywhere though, so I left it in the bathroom. From there it exited thru the front door, witnessed by a few people. No stray feathers in the drain so I assume it flew off.
Goodbye pigeon. IP: Logged |
