The Animal Welfare Society of Monroe is offering a $500 reward for information on one dog found starving and another found dead inside a plastic trash bag in the woods off Godfrey Ridge Drive in Stroud Township, less than a tenth of a mile from AWSOM's shelter.A 1-year-old female hound mix, which AWSOM shelter volunteers have named Destiny, was found emaciated and curled up on top of a plastic trash bag Sunday afternoon.
Destiny was brought to the shelter and is being cared for there.
When Destiny was found, no one knew at the time that the bag she was on contained another dog's body.
This second dog was discovered when AWSOM brought the news media Monday morning to where Destiny had been found.
AWSOM President Marie Grimm and reporters saw the trash bag still there, ripped it open and found the body of what appeared to be a Yorkshire terrier mix.
It's unknown if both dogs had been abandoned by the same person(s) or when or how the one dog died. Authorities are investigating.
AWSOM is offering a $500 reward to anyone with information that helps authorities learn what led to both dogs being found in the condition they were and who is responsible.
