Giuseppe DiBella’s search for his toy fox terrier Nika has ended after two years and lots of wishing. The man from Newburg, N.Y., will be reunited with his beloved dog over the Thanksgiving holiday. Nika was found recently sitting on the front doorstep of an Ocala home, more than 1,000 miles away from where she went missing, WFTV reported.
When Nika disappeared from DiBella’s front yard two years ago, he called police, put up fliers and “never gave up,” Click Orlando quoted him as saying.
The Ocala homeowner who found the dog brought her to a local vet where she was scanned for a microchip. The vet found the chip and notified Marion County Animal Services. That agency let DiBella know his dog had been found far from home.
Nika will remain in Florida until the Thanksgiving holiday when DiBella can pick her up, WFTV reported. She’s in good hands with one of her owner’s friends.
It’s unclear how Nika made her way to Florida.
