Guam Animals In Need is looking for people willing to temporarily take care of its furry friends for the duration of the coming storm.Peggy Denney, GAIN’s board president, said the group is currently fostering out its animals. Denney explained the kennels at the Yigo shelter don’t provide protection from the driving wind and rain, and that some good Samaritans are needed to take care of the animals until the storm passes.
Tropical Storm Bavi is expected to make its closest point of approach either Sunday evening or early Monday.
Those interested will need to provide their name, address, phone number and possibly email to shelter personnel, Denney said.
Denney didn’t have the most recent count of animals at the shelter, but estimated it was around 90.
A recent post on GAIN’s Facebook page is asking people to come to the shelter before 6 p.m. today. The post also requests people who own an air kennel or leash to bring them since the shelter is in short supply.
The shelter is located near Andersen Air Force Base at 464 Chalan Setbisio Marine Corps Drive in Yigo.
