Animal Sanctuary, Advocacy Organization and Rescue Team located in Central Illinois. Our anagram is also our mission statement: Every Animal deserves Respect, Transformation and Hope. E.A.R.T.H. Sanctuary and Rescue was founded in 2013 as a response to the growing need for permanent placement, advocacy and adoption agents for needy, abused, unwanted and neglected animals in Illinois and surrounding states. While E.A.R.T.H. rescues, rehabs and offers sanctuary to all species without discrimination, its primary focus is on roosters, pigs and domestic rabbits, as these are the species with the most need in our immediate area. E.A.R.T.H. advocates humane and loving treatment for all animals, including those animals considered to be part of the food industry. For this reason, E.A.R.T.H. Sanctuary is and always will be vegan-run and operated, and offers learning tools to inspire others to treat all animals with respect and transition to a vegan way of life. In our Ninja Rehab Program, we have over a dozen roosters who were once used as **** -fighters. These birds were seized by an Animal Control Facility in Indiana after a bust of a local cockfighting ring. The boys had been kept in dark indoor enclosures and were tortured in order to initiate their "fight to survive" instinct and get them to fight each other to the death. Luckily, these roosters (and others who have already joined our core flock) found their way to E.A.R.T.H. Sanctuary and our rooster rehabilitation program, and now are learning valuable social skills in the hopes that one day they can be integrated with the rest of our core gang. In addition to our roosters, E.A.R.T.H. also houses over twenty hens, the majority of whom are ex-layers and were no longer deemed profitable, so were relinquished into our care. The addition of our girls round out our chicken family at about thirty-forty birds at any given time. In our Ellie's Oofs Program, we currently have eleven pot-bellied pigs of varying ages and sizes. Most were initially bred and sold as "teacup" or "Juliana" pigs and were given up by their owners when they outgrew their "25 pound weight guarantee". Several others came from abuse, neglect and cruelty situations, and were rescued by our team and given a new safe life at our sanctuary. Our pigs are advocates for their species, continuing to correct misconceptions about the existence of "micro mini" pigs by attending events, visiting school groups and traveling out in public with us on a regular basis. They range in sizes from our ten-pound piglet to our full-grown 275-pound dominant male, all at healthy weights for their body sizes. They're on the PIGGY MYTHBUSTERS team at E.A.R.T.H., and will not rest til everyone out there knows the truth about "teacup" pigs. In addition to daily care and advocacy, this program also assists with education and helping families to better understand their pig companions through coaching.
In the Sweet Bunny House, we have partnered with another local non-profit organization, The Sweet Bunny Project, to aid with sanctuary, rescue, advocacy, foster, adoption and rehabilitation of domestic rabbits in need. We have four bunnies currently in our foster program, and another seven as permanent sanctuary members of E.A.R.T.H.. Our bunnies thoroughly enjoy being able to free-roam throughout the Bunny House, and love exploring the vast expanse of property that E.A.R.T.H. Sanctuary calls its home, enjoying outdoor playtime and nibbling on grass and clover in the safe outdoor enclosure they have access to when the weather permits. E.A.R.T.H. and The Sweet Bunny Project recognize the importance of advocacy and education about house rabbits, and make it their mission to provide information and support for anyone considering adopting, or who currently has a bun companion. In addition to the three main programs above, E.A.R.T.H. at any given time also houses animals of multiple other species, including but not limited to dogs, rats, gerbils, hamsters, peacocks, ducks, turkeys, geese, chinchillas, bearded dragons, turtles, parakeets, goats, tarantulas, guinea pigs and fish. Though the majority of animals who make their way to E.A.R.T.H. are lifetime sanctuary residents, we do continually foster animals in transition to their forever homes, so please consider inquiring if you are looking for a new companion animal to adopt into your family.
