Animal lovers, this will break your heart. Apparently someone in California has been dumping acid on unsuspecting dogs, leaving them with permanent, horrific scars. After a golden retriever was found with gruesome third-degree burns on his back earlier in the month, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department began a hunt to find the person responsible for such a cruel act. Although, it was possible that it was simply an accident.
But when other reports of dogs being burned with acid popped up, they knew it had to be more than just coincidence.
So the Sheriff's Department used their Facebook page in the hopes of tracking the person or persons responsible for such heinous acts of animal cruelty. As of now, no suspect has been found, but they encourage anyone who may have information about the incidents to call their local authorities.
The stray golden retriever that was first found with these terrible burns has now been named Fergus and is recovering in an animal hospital. The Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue group hopes to find him a loving, nurturing home, which shouldn't be hard considering his amazing spirit.
"Of course like all Goldens he is still loving and forgiving and just wanted to be held," the group said on his GoFundMe page, where more than 600 people have donated for the pup.
Two other dogs, Bella the pitbull and another unnamed pooch, were found victim to the same crime, according to KTLA and NBC LA. Sadly, two other dogs that had been found with these acid burns had to be put down because of their injuries.
Rewards are being offered to those who have information regarding the incidents. PETA has offered $2,500 while L.A. County Supervisor Mike Antonovich has pledged to ask the county for another $10,000. And an NBC LA viewer even promised an additional $2,000 for the reward.
