I have told my student that one of these days I want to try and touch his little head. He told me that he is a tough guy and that he will bite me. Hmmm, we'll see. Lately I've been going earlier so that I have time to see him and talk to him. Many times, after we have talked, I just sit there and stare at him. And he stares at me. What a beautiful and relaxing feeling...IP: Logged |

I did touch him some days later after my last post! On his feet! I went to his cage, spoke to him softly, telling him loving words. He was shaking. I had to wait for him to make the first move. I stood there, not moving at all, looking at him straight in the eyes, waiting. He knew that he could trust me. And when he felt ready, he came slowly to the bars and I touched his feet. The same thing happens every time I am there. He is shaking and then he gets closer. And when I leave and tell him goodbye he just freezes at whatever position he might be in. Now that I'm writing the post, I think it is a good chance to google a little bit and read some things about parrots, for example why he is shaking, maybe he is afraid of something, because all this time I'm relying just upon my intuition.IP: Logged |

Hahaha! That bird is so funny! First of all, whenever I go close to him, he starts shaking. I'll take that as a sign that he is happy to see me and not that other thing I've read on the Internet! Then, after some minutes, he stops with that and starts turning his head into every direction; right, left, down, even upside down, so as to see me from every possible angle! Hahaha! I'm laughing so much every time! He is unbelievable! And then he comes closer to me... And I lay my hand to touch his little feet... And then he sticks his sweet head in between the bars so much, looking at me and all I want to do is kiss him... Awww...IP: Logged |

He stuck his little head in between the bars today, so as to get closer as much as possible and...how could I not touch him? I petted his beak for the first time and he didn't move an inch. What a feeling... And when I told him that I had to leave, he was left there totally frozen.IP: Logged |

We're heading towards the end of another academic year and this lesson will have to end very soon. I'm giving him all my love every time I see him, so that he feels happy and cared for and strong for all those times that I'm not going to be there. I will miss him. I don't know what else to say. Sometimes I wish I didn't have such a foolish heart...IP: Logged |

bit late in the thread, just want to say with birds you shouldn't touch their feet too much petting a bird you generally want to stick to their head even if they're cuddly, it helps avoid hormonal behavior and stress when their triggered hormones have no outlet african greys in particular can be prone to some very bad behavior in captivity if not properly stimulated sounds like this bird is kept caged a lot too, and alone on top of that, which is pretty terrible for a bird and pretty abusive i have birds (2 green cheek conures) and have been around them my whole life, they're not meant to be caged like that day to day outside of bed time and difficult circumstances they shouldn't be caged at all so this cute story is kind of sad tbh IP: Logged |

btw the reason why samy's belly only has down feathers on it is because he's plucking his chest, it's self mutilation because of environmental factors generallythat's an unhappy, stressed out, sad bird IP: Logged |
