i'm certainly not going to give serious study and analysis to the theories of someone who says revelations was written by someone with a primitive materialistic mind and does not contain multiple layers of symbolism.....

someone who 'warns' us not to read our own preconceptions into things right after doing precisely that themselves....

Not disagreeing there,
and could care less what you think of my theories.
They cannot be proven any more than John's visions.

Fayte ~ Am I correct in surmising your theory is that John was observing cities of the future? Interesting as always.

It seems to me almost irrefutable that Revelations is entirely symbolic. One might just as easily suggest that the whole of the Bible is entirely symbolic. Although, I would humbly propose that it may very often, though not always, be read on two levels - the literal and the symbolic, depending on one's needs, skills and perspective. 'Course then we have the issue of one symbol representing how many things? Pesky symbols.

The measurement of the New Jerusalem might, I think, be of importance here. I'm no math wiz though. In that hallowed arena I'll happily bow to Petron's wisdom.

I must disagree with you on one point, Fayte. I imagine the "scholars and archaeologists" will be the very last to understand the Book ... if indeed they ever do.

I've always enjoyed reading your musings, fayte. I'm not so easily offended as I was in my youth, so no worries here. In fact, lately I'd rather come across an opposing theory than a mirror of my own. Picking apart someone else's brain remains my favorite parlor trick.

Kriya Yoga is a very specific system of Yoga that was revived in modern times by Lahiri Mahasaya, c 1861. Paramahansa Yogananda brought it into widespread public awareness through his book Autobiography of a Yogi.

The system consists of a number of yogic techniques that hasten the practitioner's spiritual development and help to bring about a profound state of tranquility and God-communion.

Yogananda writes that, "The Kriya Yogi mentally directs his life energy to revolve, upward and downward, around the six spinal centers (medullary, cervical, dorsal, lumbar, sacral, and coccygeal plexuses) which correspond to the twelve astral signs of the zodiac, the symbolic Cosmic Man.

Yogananda also wrote (see Sri Yukteswar Giri in The Holy Science) that Arjuna, Adi Shankara, Jesus, Paul of Tarsus, John the Evangelist and Kabir had been initiated into Kriya Yoga

That sounds like a good form of Yoga to me. I have that book- Autobiography of a Yogi- which I began to read and yesterday I put it aside to remind myself I must get back to it (I've 2 small boys so it's difficult to read unless they're in bed)......
