Imbolc is one of the four principal festivals of the Celtic calendar and one of the eight sabbats of the Wheel of the Year, a religious calendar used by some neopagan groups. It is celebrated either at the beginning of February or at the first local signs of Spring. Most commonly it is celebrated on February 1, around midway between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox in the northern hemisphere [1]. It is strongly associated with the goddess Brigid, and in the Christian period with St Brigid - Imbolc being also known as St. Brigid's Day [2]. In Scotland the festival is also known as Là Fhèill Brìghde, in Ireland as Lá Fhéile Bríde, and in Wales as Gŵyl y Canhwyllau [3] The Day is also associated with the Christian feast of Candlemas (2 February), marking the end of the season of Epiphany.

Also known as "The Festival of Lights", fire, initiation and purification are an important aspect of this festival. The lighting of candles and fires represents the return of warmth and the increasing power of the sun over the coming months.[4]

Imbolc is traditionally a time of weather prognostication, and the old tradition of watching to see if serpents or badgers came from their winter dens is perhaps a precursor to the Northern American Groundhog Day.

I'd spent many hours the other day exploring Imbolc, and St Brigid-- the Christian one, and a pagan one.

Comes down to Purification, and setting oneself in devotion to something else Greater and Higher than who we are. Acknowledging that we are Server Flames, and our missions in Life is to keep that Flame from burning out for others. We keep lighting each other's wick, reminding each other that there is Purpose and a reason to continue glowing. Like Brigid, should their light wane or appear smouldered, we gather it close to us, to protect it, feed it, house it, and teach it how to bend-Gold. (She was associated with Lambs, and with bringing milk to Mothers to nurture them, give them shelter.)

Let your Light so shine....

And hoping your celebration was a good one.
Women are important people.

On a whim, Juniperb, I looked up 'Blue Star Kachina'... Cool parallel is that it too stands for Purification.
