I belong to a moderate-to-liberal, diverse, and accepting Christian denomination. I was raised in another more conservative denomination (out of respect, will not say which one) but couldn't take it anymore by the time I reached 18; wrestled with leaving for about two more years and slowly allowed myself to let go of that religion, spend the next three years spiritually curious and searching, ended up in the place that is right for me. I also would like to remind people that there is a lot of diversity even within the same 'basic religious group'. Not all Christian denominations agree on all things. Hell, people just in my one denomination don't agree on things! I don't feel that all people under the same 'tent' have to necessarily agree on every single thing. I also wish to remind people that not all Christians are conservative, and that one does not have to be conservative to be a good Christian. IP: Logged |

I am very religious. I practise alertness ,awareness, concentration and wakefulness. As it turns out not one religion encompasses all of that hence I am not a true buddhist or taoist or zen or Islam or even a christian.I reject all lies and feel sorry for the children visiting those temple/churches where those lies are fed to this very day. It is better to be irreligious and discover God in your own way than being fed false dogmas. IP: Logged |

Another for spiritual but not religious.Raised by a devout Christian grandma and grandpa, I remember sitting in the pew wondering why we worshipped a dead man on a cross... So many, many years ago, I went out on my own path. I take my lessons from all the great teachers, Christ, Buddha, etc, and the new ones as well... Enter my house and one will find two Buddhas, 3 crosses above my fireplace, a handmade Witches Besom, a Shiva, a Bible near my bedside, a copy of The Tao on the other side of my bed, on a bookshelf Timothy Leary's interperetation of The Tibetian book of the Dead, from an LSD trip point of view, and many, many more symbols of the teachings I hold near and dear. When I was little I was extremely religious (mainly because of my grandma's influence, and my uncle, who in the recent years, owns his own church.)For a long time now I've been an empirical agnostic (aka weak/open agnostic but hey 'empirical' sounds so much cooler ). I don't pray to any God, nor follow any religion. ------------------ "I am not absentminded. It is the presence of mind that makes me unaware of everything else." ― G.K. Chesterton

What denomination is your uncle's church?------------------ "Life is like a box of crayons. Most people are the 8-color boxes, but what you're really looking for are the 64-color boxes with the sharpeners on the back. I fancy myself to be a 64-color box, though I've got a few missing. It's okay though, because I've got some more vibrant colors like periwinkle at my disposal. I have a bit of a problem though in that I can only meet the 8-color boxes. Does anyone else have that problem? I mean there are so many different colors of life, of feeling, of articulation...so when I meet someone who's an 8-color type...I'm like, 'hey girl, magenta!' and she's like, 'oh, you mean purple!' and she goes off on her purple thing, and I'm like, 'no - I want magenta!'" -John Mayer IP: Logged |

I'd say that I am spiritual but not religious.A hodge-podge of beliefs with the underlying message being "just be a good person"... I have been meaning to read up on Unitarian Universalism though. I have read a couple of websites on it and I actually have a couple of books on it on my nightstand, but I haven't cracked them yet. Maybe one day I'll roll over and take it out of the pile... Don't like organized religions or cults. I also don't like extremes. So I can find truth in many different religions as for me they all have a different way to say the same thing. I have friends from all types of religions and they most take an issue about me not joining their group ("cult"). Try to explain a Uranus Asc with Mars conjunct, Sun in Sag and Jup in Libra! I want to consider ALL sides of truth! I hate it how each group immediately assumes they are on the side of God and everyone else is going to be damned. LOL And I'm sorry but for me the Bible is an allegory. I can't stand those who read it literally. You have to have a very small mind to do so. It's an historical book for Pete's sakes. Taking it literally is just nuts! So to sum it up: Do I believe in God? Yep! Do I believe in organized religions? Nope Do I like churches? Yes, and even more so when they stop accumulating wealth and start REALLY helping people and the humanity esp. in times of global financial crisis. Churches are supposed to be spiritual humanistic places. They have turned into these filthy rich houses of larceny.
