The Great Eternal Ever Present noble HeWhat is a God? I present here; Some sarcasm; A perspective. and Food for thought. Helium/symbol He Chemical Element Helium is a chemical element with symbol He and atomic number 2. It is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, non-toxic, inert, monatomic gas that heads the noble gas group in the periodic table. Wikipedia "Helium is the element named after Greek god of the Sun, "Helios." It is one of the most common elements in the universe. It is a noble gas which does not react with elements. Celebrating 145 years with noble gas, helium quote: LUDHIANA: French astronomer Pierre Janssen was observing the solar eclipse in 1868 when he noticed an unknown, yellow, spectral line signature. Later studies revealed this was Helium, a colourless, odourless, non toxic gas which leads the group of noble gases in the periodic table. On August 18, the world celebrated the 145th anniversary of the discovery of the second lightest and second most abundant gas in the observable universe.Besides being one of the largest byproducts of the Big Bang, which is said to have led to the birth of the universe as we know it, Helium has also helped mankind along on the path of scientific progress. Scientists and professors in the city hail helium as a gas with multifarious uses ranging from fuel to medical applications and welding and magnet production. According to B S Sekhon, dean, Academics, PCTE and former head of the department of Chemistry, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), "Helium is the element named after Greek god of the Sun, "Helios." It is one of the most common elements in the universe. It is a noble gas which does not react with elements. The gas is being used as light weight aircraft fuel, it is also used with hydrogen in aircraft, air balloons and to cool metals for superconductivity use. A mixture of 80% helium and 20% Oxygen such as trimix, heliox and heliair is used as an artificial atmosphere for divers and others working under pressure. The inertness of helium has environmental advantages over conventional refrigeration systems which contribute to ozone depletion or global warming". Chemistry professors in city colleges say Helium is immensely helpful in medical applications. "Helium can be used for breathing observation. It is also important in treating ailments like emphysema, asthma and other conditions that affect breathing. Apart from these uses, MRI scans rely on liquefied helium where it is used in cooling super conducting magnets", said Geeta Jalaan, Chemistry professor at GGN Khalsa College, Civil Lines. "When inhaled from a source such as a helium balloon, it briefly changes the sound of a person's voice, making it sound much higher. However, breathing in too much helium can be very dangerous, potentially choking people due to lack of oxygen". The gas plays an important role in space missions. "Because of its light weight, helium is used as rocket fuel as it is not flammable. Liquid fuel is volatile and packed with corrosive material that could destroy a spacecraft's casing. So Helium gas is the best option", said Varinderjeet Kaur, head of the department of Chemistry at Government Girls College.
