LK.. You give such excellent and thorough responses! I'd never seen or experienced Galatea. omg, she is sooo cute! What's difficult watching those scenes is knowing that they are 'metal' beings. There's the one scene where they are acting sexually drawn to each other, yet, these are nonhuman? LOL Programmed behaviors? ... Does it really count? How many of us try to 'copy' behavior reactions we see of two people involved in an escapade in the bedroom with someone for sex? (I saw something on TV program yesterday. The people seemed pretty awkward the morning-after, and responded to each other in what I thought was shallow modeled-behaviors? Seemed really stilted.) Are we programmed how to react/respond 'correctly' or stereotypically in bedroom communications, based on what we see 'modeled' in the media? (music) Let's talk about sex baby [3:46] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5cYZzub3KU (I've aged-out of that kind of scene now! LOL) Thanks again, LK!! I really enjoyed the Galatea clips. (music) Respect! (Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, 1967) [2:29] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FOUqQt3Kg0

Alan Turing a former computer scientist once posited , "Is it possible for the computer to fake in to making a man , that the person on the other side is a human being?". This is the fundamental guiding principle in any AI system that is being built today, including Siri.So far, we haven't succeeded much. But we are going in the right direction, I think. From a religion perspective, I am not sure it is right to interpret buddhism being diagonally opposite to shinto. A buddha I know of , that is Osho is quoted to have said, even the stone is a buddha who is asleep. After a very long time he will be enlightened too. Gautama, the Buddha has been the most significant figure in the last 3 millenia. There will be a maitreya who is yet to come in to this world and he will be very significant in changing our consciousness. He has also said that enlightenment can never be manufactured in a lab, no matter how sophisticated it is. I too agree with him. We are a product of Miracle to be given an opportunity to find our uniqueness. To give birth to a soul. Until then be it human or robot we are all dead in my understanding of what I have heard.

Heh, I'm not sure it would be, either, since if anything Zen Buddhism (as practiced in Japan) is often diagonally opposite to itself! Speaking of which...Kill the Buddha

While I'm inclined to think enlightenment won't be found in a lab (though maybe it might FIND something beyond our current understanding that is) that's different from saying a self-aware being can't find enlightenment (either in its own way, or as a fellow traveler with us). But then my view is that divinity is inherent rather than outside of nature (and that which is made from nature) so the idea of inherent souls (whatever that might mean, something we can't really measure or know no matter how sure we are personally what it is) isn't strange to me. I also recognize that we humans can be robotic in our thinking and reactions (our thoughts and language are themselves a type of software, something we would have to overcome in ourselves as well). Squishy guts shouldn't be a requirement to the ability to find enlightenment in my view. IP: Logged |
