This is why these threads should not be allowed. They NEVER go well, or as planned. Inevitably end up closed. IP: Logged |

I would be interested in joining this discussion, yet am reminded by the wisdom of my daughter:"You can never win an argument on the Internet." I have my pieces of truth, some of which do not currently appear to fit together. I'm looking for the missing pieces which are carried by others. I'm willing to share... IP: Logged |

You were directing those comments to me. Whether you admit that or not is neither here nor there at this point. But now moving on... Doctrine follower. Really? I just spelled out what Jesus meant to me and how he has healed childhood wounds but you have still managed to reduce me to a "doctrine follower" in your mind? Doctrine is necessary because it composes the skeletal system of the church. What is a doctrine follower and how have I fallen into that category? Because I corrected athenegoddess? Because she kept referencing things in the bible that simply aren't there?

Regulus18, I feel bad about what is happening here, in the name of Jesus. And I'm sorry for being harsh myself. I think you have a lot of valuable information and knowledge to share. I really think that there are better ways we all can communicate and learn from each other. IP: Logged |

Agreed. I was trying to keep it as respectful as possible. As Christians we take any form of dissent against what we believe very personally because...in a way...when people challenge your faith, it feels like they are really challenging your issues that were resolved through faith. So...there's some insight into my reactions. I do not like dislike anyone on the forum, it's just clear that I am pretty passionate about Christ. IP: Logged |

It's an easy trap to fall into. I almost printed this one off, to remind myself not to bother. I should have (some years back): http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/duty_calls.png IP: Logged |

^^LOL. I think everyone just thinks that it was automatically closed. ----------- Regulus18, wow! What you've said in this thread is exactly what I would've said, if I cared enough to get involved. No one ever wins on LL or anywhere on the Internet. Aside from that, I just wanted to say that I appreciate all that you've written here and pat you on the back for the way that you held yourself. You were respectful and talked with dignity, on this very touchy subject, even when you weren't shown the same. The ignorance in this thread is appalling but I must say that I'm not at all suprised. We do live in a world where opinions (aka Internet articles) are deemed as fact. Anyone can look up anything on the Internet and get a generalized idea on the subject they've looked up. It's a recipe for ignorance. Anyhoo just wanted to say that I appreciate you and any time you took out to write what you did. The world is a very scary, dark place, but as long as we keep our faith in The Lord, we'll make it through. He knows us better than we do ourselves. Take care. IP: Logged |

Religion isn't too winnable. If religion were objective rather than subjective (and typically based on one's ego and personal bias that can never be proven or disproved) then we'd live in a very different world. As it is even scholars who spend years going to the same seminary school (the ultimate Bible and tradition geeks* who would find us all appallingly ignorant on the subject, no exceptions) can argue each other on the nature of God and the cosmos but rarely, if ever, come to see eye to eye on everything. And that's before theologians of different denominations (say Greek Orthodox and Catholic, let alone a Protestant denomination) confront each other. Yet despite a thousand years of one church trying to convince another church to convert I've never heard of some major denomination say "we've studied it and agree with this other denomination and will incorporate our church into theirs." Obviously plenty within denominations split off to form new denominations, however. And that's before attempting to communicate with people of a completely different religion or no religion who don't care what the Bible says anymore than many Christians care what the Koran says. No doubt that has a lot to do with why historically religions have relied on violence rather than reason to convince others of the truth of their religion. If they hadn't then Christianity (and other major religions) wouldn't be a major force in the world today. (*"geek" isn't meant to be an insult, just a convenient word for someone obsessed enough to become extremely knowledgeable and often highly opinionated on a subject as it's not just part of their lives, it IS their life...any subject, but in this case of their own religious traditions that include their denomination's understanding of the Bible.) Ignorance is someone who thinks just because they say Jesus is their savior they are saved. That's not what Jesus meant at all and I appreciate you trying to be in your heart but religious people are missing a vital ingredient to oneness and its called discerning intelligence. Its also compelling how you are talking about internet articles when you take a book which you have no idea where it came from or who has taken stuff out put stuff in yet you take it as fact. ig·no·rance ˈiɡnərəns/ noun lack of knowledge or information. "he acted in ignorance of basic procedures" synonyms: incomprehension of, unawareness of, unconsciousness of, unfamiliarity with, inexperience with, lack of knowledge about, lack of information about; You think that simply stating Jesus is your God and savior you are an immortal and are never going to taste death? You will because you haven't got the correct keys to immortality and few do. You will still die while you claim to know God. God is much deeper than what you christians can conceive of at your point of evolution.
Even Hitler said its amazing how gullible people are and how they are easily controlled.
