Children can be little angels...and little demons and everything in between (my name here is because Granny liked to call me "Pixie" as that's how she saw me as a child with my playful but reckless behavior). I just noticed something...here are popular images of children and angels: and and and Notice how the angel could be the little girl all grown up.
Of course that would be best case scenario, or her at her best rather than her normal or worst. From a Christian standpoint it can be a symbol to nurture the angelic side of humanity, and that we are God's instruments in this world, we are the ones to answer prayers and protect the innocent and give comfort to the hurting. It's not enough to pray, we have to LIVE our prayers, with prayers focusing our actions rather than absolving ourselves of responsibility by saying God will handle it instead. It's not "give up and let God" (other than perhaps ego or the lower selves of a person which should be let go of) but to BE the change in the world, the force of God in this world. From a non-religious standpoint it's still similar. Be the change, don't expect some higher power (be it divine or governmental) to take care of it for you. And be ready to take care of yourself and those around you. While it is overly idealistic to expect us to ever be a society of angels, it should be better to nurture our angelic sides (that includes in each other) than our demonic sides, and like reaching out to the stars, seems worth aiming for even if it seems impossible. It's certainly a lot easier to be an angel in paradise. Granted, it's human nature to complain no matter how good they have it, simply because that by enjoying certain benefits they come to feel entitled to it rather than grateful...as Jareth says in Labyrinth to Sarah when Sarah says it's not fair, "You say that so often. I wonder what your basis of comparison is." Of course helping those in need can help one to feel more gratitude for the everyday blessings one enjoys. And I like this perspective of it. Many Christians (and new agers, etc), when they speak of guardian angels, speak in a way that sound as if the power is completely outside of us, and that we are objects at the mercy of other forces, forces that are actually jerks in that you have to beg for their aid. (Prime example here ) But my interpretation of these images is that the angel is inside the girl (the boy surely has one as well), that is they are active participants which gives their lives meaning, though there are times they will fall (but that doesn't mean the angelic side of them has to fall). I also like in how my interpretation means that there is always a part of the person that is pure. It's like when I was 15 and on the streets, and I stayed with a little boy of about 13 (he could've easily passed for 10) as he slept in the stairwell of a church, believing God would let nothing bad happen to him there. I thought that was ridiculous, but I couldn't let him sleep there alone, and as he slept, I slept lightly at best, and often awake (especially as male and female prostitutes came down with their johns since it was out of sight), my butterfly knives at the ready just in case...as cold and filthy as it was, as miserable as I felt, as dangerous it was and the sad things I saw while looking over the boy, my compassion for him was stronger than all of that...which means the angel inside of me was stronger than the world, and at least for those moments I, too, was an angel of sorts, just as those girls strike me as being physical manifestations of the angel behind them. And that not only gives us agency, but gives me hope that the good inside of me, and inside all of humanity, is stronger than the evil and degradation of the human spirit. IP: Logged |

Maybe it's supposed to be her mom who passed away. Or her in the future. I'd love to ask the artist. IP: Logged |

Also, the angel is reaching toward a butterfly that landed on the little girl's hand. That indicates it's a sign from the angel.IP: Logged |

Good catch. But what do you think the butterfly is a sign of? IP: Logged |

And touching the little boy's head. I took that as keeping him safe. He's close to the edge of the bridge.IP: Logged |

When at night I go to sleep Fourteen angels watch To Keep -- Two, my head are Guarding Two, my feet are Guiding Two, are on my right hand-- Two, are on my left hand-- Two-- who warmly Cover Two-- who o'er me Hover Two to whom 'tis given... To Guide my steps to Heaven. (music) Evening Prayer (E. Humperdinck, from Hänsel and Gretel) [2:43] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuIpZ_3tmr8
