Haven't celebrated in a long time (did enjoy a few in my youth). For many years, my cat was freaked out and I'd let her lay on me while I watched a movie or something (otherwise she'd go hide somewhere while the fireworks were going off). Fireworks don't bother my eyes, but flashing white lights will. It frustrates me that so many make on YT think making a white flash every other second somehow makes it cool. (At least some give Flashing Lights warning.) A flash or two, especially at a particularly good moment, can be good, but less is definitely more. (I feel that way about any special effect being overused.) There are some vids I'd absolutely adore and have on my playlist for repeated viewings, save that I couldn't even get all the way through the first time as the flashing white stung my eyes too much. So many like that.
I have light sensitive eyes. Ironically, I need a hat and sunglasses at night when there are so many bright lights in the dark (and under fluorescent) than in the daylight where my eyes can adjust to a steady light. I can't even drive at night because I get light blinded from headlights, and sometimes even from flashing lights by a club or cinema.

As for dogs, I knew one redneck new to the area, not that I know or care where he came from. Thing was, there were plenty of farmers and armed rednecks, and dogs that menace livestock are NOT tolerated. More than one dog failed to return, or had to be stitched up because of say a .22 bullet in the dog.
This particular one was a nasty man-child who thought he could bully his way. He'd probably foul himself if he knew a cat owner who politely asked him to keep his big mastiffs in the yard (though she did show him the vet bill to have her cat sewn back up) that he yelled at was armed.
He demanded of me when he passed if I've seen his dogs and nobody had better reported his dogs running loose, like he'd go violent. I wasn't phased, and he seem rattled when I calmly told him dogs that trespass on farms or any private property are subject to being shot, not just having the pound called on them who take forever to show up. His dogs were never seen again. Don't know what happened to them, but I was glad.
One of those dogs ripped open the cat lady's cat, as in needing surgery costing hundreds of dollars.
He wasn't the only one. I don't know why some people think they should be able to do that. I know they can be defensive. One defended himself from a leashed dog, yet still in reach of the public sidewalk. The woman who owned the dog came out, and he thought it was to apologize and relocate the dog, but she yelled at him for kicking the dog (the dog that was biting him, and then he jumped away). Even when other witnesses told her that her dog was vicious, she tried to blame it on everyone but herself and her dog.

One thing that bothered me was rednecks that used to live next door. They kind of amused me, and I had a friendly but distant relation with them.
But one day (either the Fourth, or the day before it) I saw my trashcans knocked over by a truck parked on the sidewalk (thankfully, the trash had been collected by then). As I went to put the trashcans in my fenced yard, a bunch of drunken men (which included the neighbors who knew me and did nothing to stop them) yelled rude and lecherous things at me.
I just had disdain for them, but I regretted not getting the license plate of that truck after they ripped out of there loud...and clearly drunk (which is a public menace). I'd have called the cops on them, potentially saving the lives of sober people (including children and pets) also on the road (or given them, even on the sidewalk). I have no tolerance for those who drive under the influence (and when they're doing it that old, they should have their driver's license permanently revoked).
I don't know why it took me so long to lower my expectations regarding people. I'm more vigilant these days, but the incident hasn't repeated itself around me (and those neighbors moved away a long time ago).
