Hiya blue ~

For those who are too young to know of this song, here's the lyrics

Blue Moon
You saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own

Blue Moon
You know just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could care for

And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will hold
I heard somebody whisper please adore me
And when I looked to the Moon it turned to gold

Blue moon
Now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own

I confess I had to check the lyrics first, I thought it was 'I saw you standing alone' ~ though maybe from the blue moon's perspective that is right.

Feeling the need to get it right is the Mercury in Taurus effect. MOO! I can't remember who put it up but a quote on the astrology forum about Mercury in Taurus cracked me up. It was about 'having to feel the truth of something before committing to it'. It made me laugh because it is so true. Of me, anyway.

Every know and then I read something that transports me to another time. This week this was -: Singled Out: How Two Million Women Survived Without Men after the First World War. By Virginia Nicholson.

The material quoted in the book includes previously unpublished autiobiographies, and anecdotes sent to her in letters from the general public. It is a heartfelt account of the lives of women deeply effected by the aftermath of a war that left them as one of 2 million 'surplus women'. In some cases they would have wanted to be single anyway, but many were bereft of a fiance or boyfriend and never found anyone else. Once such was Vera Brittain, whose poem is quoted in the book:

quote:
Perhaps
(to R.A.L Died of Wounds in France, December 23rd,1915)

Perhaps some day the sun will shine again,
And I shall see that still the skies are blue,
And feel once more I do not live in vain
Although bereft of You.

Perhaps the golden meadows at my feet
Will make the sunny hours of spring seem gay,
And I shall find the white May blossoms sweet,
Though You have passed away.

Perhaps the summer woods will shimmer bright
And crimson roses once again be fair,
And autumn harvest fields a rich delight,
Although You are not there.

Perhaps some day I shall not shrink in pain
To see the passing of the dying year,
And listen to the Christmas songs again,
Although You are not there.

Perhaps some day I shall not shrink in pain
To see the passing of the dyaing year,
And listen to the Christmas songs again,
Although You cannot hear.

But though kind Time may many joys renew,
There is one greatest joy I shall not know,
Again, because my heart for loss of You
Was broken long ago.

That's not quite true, as Vera Brittain did go on to get married and have children many years later. Her daughter from this marriage became a famous politician (Shirley Williams).

As a piece of social history this is pertinent to most women. It identifies the achievement made by women obliged to make their own way in the world. Opening the way for us to have choice is one of them and is a strong theme of the book.

As an aside, apparently this was a great time for women wanting to throw lesbian parties as

quote:
they could dance together unafraid, knowing that the shortage of men made this a common sight

Hi Wheels!

I thought it was about time. If I get my act together I might even manage to put some photos up at some time.Glad you liked the poem. I thought it was evocative of what many of us have felt, after losing someone we love and wondering if we will ever be happy again. Yes, but in my case I no longer celebrate my birthday out of respect. Just with my parents, quietly (or they might get more upset).

Right now I am going to use it to put up a link to something I put on the astrology forum I while back. I hold a copy of this paper by Linda Rankin, I can't find it on the 'net any more. It was in my drawer for a long time in paper format so could be up to 10 years old, who knows? I'm a bit of a squirrel.

Anyway, the links are:

Gifts from the Future: Karmic Moon
http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/017424.html

Gifts from the Past: Karmic Moon
http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/017401.html

But I'm going to put it up here, as a link for me, and to share with my LL friends. What follows is abbreviated, it is more detailed on paper, and when time allows I will try and fill them out so they are more helpful.

It's no secret that I think karma is an over-used word on LL, so why did I put this up?

Well I really relate to this one. My Moon is three degrees separating from Pluto, the chart ruler. It is a powerful part of my chart. In the sense of Karma of the past this speaks to me of my defining years with a mother who is, shall we say, emotionally non-standard. With good cause, and here we are entering the unknown from times long before I was born, and about which I can only piece together with intuition and some sketchy information from relatives now passed over.

In the future I have Uranus, and that says it all. I have given up on trying to fit into a humdrum suburban existence, it is never going to happen. Someone pointed out blue moon is a Uranian choice of name, but I think this comment occured in the context of a thread discussing the number of Sun/Uranus contacts in my family. As you can see above Uranus is part of a Grand Trine with Sun and Mars. Don't think from that my life has been one long series of sudden strokes of good luck, I've had the opposite, 10 million to one sh!t luck. But that's my life, just got to get on with it.

Hmmm, I got Saturn (with whom I have made friends after reading the Liz Greene book) and then Mars "Important needs and growth may come by fighting to make your way or your stand".(which makes sense, as I am currently absolutely gash at saying no). Saturn's at the opposite end of the arrow on my kite, and Mars is part of the grand trine, the arrow-end being the north node in Cap. This made a lot of sense, cheers BM.

Any books on astrology to recommend to me?

Sory to hear about the overwhelming sh!t factor in life mate.

And, if it's any consolation to you at all, I rather like your curmudgeonliness, and the use of the angry smiley in any of your starting posts always makes me read on!

Why thank you.

Mr blue moon did tell me at the time that the chair incident was a version of a comedy classic ~ but as he had kept me up all night with his incredibly loud snoring I was feeling grumpy.

James Braha's "How to Be a Great a Astrologer" is one of my all time favourites. He goes into depth on all the different aspects.

I also like Lyn Birbeck's "Do it Yourself Relationship Astrology". He does cookbook formulas but also gives helpful guidance on blending it all together. I dip into this every now and then. O.K, quite often.

The ephemeris for 2000-2050 and 1950-2000 get a lot of usage.

BELOW

My attempt to express the archetypes of the zodiac. A bit of self-indulgence on my part.

Some of the contents have appeared in threads I have put up before, at a time when I got irked at the amount of posts along the lines of "Geminis are shallow" and "Librans are false".

Would anyone have put Sigmund Freud as Taurus? I don't know the signs of the Chinese artists included under Pisces but the others are of the sign (i.e Pollock is Aqua, etc.) The quotes are all from natives of the sign.

“If you don't like the road you're walking, start paving another one.” ~ Dolly Parton

quote:
Country superstar Dolly Parton swapped her high heels for wellies today as she "travelled through" South Yorkshire to open the first UK branch of her children's library in Rotherham.

The star launched her Imagination Library programme, which gives books to children from disadvantaged backgrounds, at the Magna Science and Adventure Park.

Founded by Parton in 1996 as a way to inspire children in her hometown of Sevierville, Tennessee, the literacy programme gives registered children a new, age appropriate book each month from birth until they are five.

A local sponsor in each community pays for the books and the cost of posting them while Parton's Dollywood Foundation covers the overheads, selects the books and negotiates the cost.

Rotherham metropolitan borough council is sponsoring the programme for which around 15,000 children are eligible. Penguin will provide all the books and the Royal Mail will post them.

The first book in the 60-volume collection in the UK is Beatrix Potter's The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Children will get their first books early next year.

Parton said: "I'm just thrilled beyond my wildest dreams at how my Imagination Library has grown from my home county in the US, all the way across the pond to the UK.

"I can't say enough about the kind folks of Rotherham who invited us here, and I look so forward to working with our local partners all across the UK to give books to as many kids as possible."

She said she hoped the library would fit in with "the many other wonderful programmes here that do so much to help children. Together, we can make a huge difference in the lives of so many little ones".

The Imagination Library already operates in more than 700 communities in 43 states in the US as well as Canada. To date, 417,000 participating children receive books, with 4.5 million books mailed this year and 11.6 million since the start of the programme in 1996.

Dear Blue Moon,

I hope I am not too late in replying, and I hope you don't mind my response. I don't think you were overboard at all in getting mad that your husband laughed when you fell, and I don't think you need anger management. I personally think it's not funny to laugh when someone falls and/or injures theirself, no matter how slight. I think because I am older and realize the consequences of injuries, and how serious what may seem like a "small fall" can really affect your back. The injuries we have in our lives affect our backs cumulatively. I also personally think it is not just nice or polite to laugh at someone when they fall. That's just me.

I'm not sure if you were looking to an answer for that so sorry if I am out of line in my response.

No, I don't mind at all. You have hit upon the reasons I got annoyed, I just didn't go about expressing them in the best way at the time. Maybe a little aggressive.

I dislike humour that laughs at other's misfortunes.
