I've been pondering this aspect. Though probably not as extreme as Pluto in the 12th, it seems to have some frightening results as well. Does anyone have any personal experience with this in the natal chart?

Especially if Mars is retrograde.

Hm. Maybe a serious inability to move.
Don't listen to me.

Mars was transiting my 12th house maybe a month ago, and I felt depressed, and unable to change my habits. Right now its transiting the 1st house, which suits my natal Aries Mars far more.

Mars in the 12th house could also represent the energy to eliminate or expose hidden secrets or things that are excessive...

this is for mars in thr 12th house "natal chart"

MARS IN THE 12TH HOUSE
Such as they are, your powers of self-assertion are somewhat repressed and hard to get a handle on. Some deeply seated fear or desire seems to force your hand, despite what you think or want. Experiences of forcefulness from your past - even in the womb or before that - have had a profound effect upon your own senses of effectiveness.

Ultimately this enables you to have a more subtle and psychological idea of what drive and assertion are actully about. Generally, you can find maleness or sex confusing or intimidating. Pursuits that serve to benifit others are, you discover, more favorable to your subtle energies.

yes i know two, with the same sort of agressiveness "pattern"; they both hold in their anger, rarely display it, but as a sensitive soul i can tell they are seething and just don't know what to do with it. then it comes out in a huge, quick, outburst. there is no spoken remorse, but a sort of sense of shame about it, and then they withdraw again. they both also seem to dislike overt displays of enthusiasm from people (except secretly seem to like it, but want to hide it and act tough, annoyed or aloof). AND they both had traumatic births and almost did not live. i heard this can happen with mars in the 12th, somewhere.. i think maybe noel tyl's forum, a while back (so i'm not sure).

I was looking through charts and I see I have a student I tutor with Mars in Cancer at 16 degrees in the 12th. He's hyperactive but he's a solid student and a hard worker...

I'm a mars in 12th guy. In Pisces as well, so I've got a double whammy! Most books and websites say this is an extremely weak place to have mars. I'm not so sure about that. It is true that I lack drive and ambition, but thats only because I don't see a reason for it. What I need to feel happy is intangible and indescribable. My energy depends on my emotions, If something feels like a good idea to me, I can work extremely hard, for a long period of time, and remember all the little details to make a job well done.

Heartcakes- I used to be one of those people you speak of. I would be ashamed of my anger and try to pretend it doesn't exist, until it explodes and freaks everyone out. I've been gradually changing though, and today I'm very direct and to the point with my anger. Happens fast, clears fast, pretty healthy I think. I bet it has something to do with my progressed mars moving into the 1st.

My husband has mars in the 12th and in cancer no less, so one would think he was very introverted and not too effective in getting things done.
Well he is the most effective and efficient person I know.
On one thread someone said have you ever heard of a brave cancer? Exactly. But even there this doesn't fit my husband. One day we drive through a not so nice neighborhood and therea are about 8 big guys beating this guy on the ground. My 24 year old 5'7" height husband pulls our car over and rushes into these guys DEMANDING to know what is going on!! Turns out it was their friend and they were play wrestling. But the looks on their faces were priceless as my husband gives a nod (as if to say'ok') turns and get back in the car.
THAT was mars in cancer and in 12th!!!! Hard to believe. But what helped it was 4 planets and the ASC in leo.
So I'd like to help you but my experience with mars in 12 can only be under the category of "other placements can offset the traditional interpretations".

I think mars in 12th has trouble seeing harm done to someone or something that can't defend itself and doing nothing. I've been beaten up and pelted with BB's as a kid many times for saving frogs and snakes that "the gang" wanted to shoot or blow up.

Mars in Cancer strives to protect others.

I know a person who has a retro Cancer Mars in his 12th house. Seems like a very karmic placement.

I've seen the suppressed anger (only because I've watched him very closely ) and I'm wondering if I should be concerned. He does seem rather secretive in a way, but he can be ambitious (Cap Sun).

He's always tired, too.

It's interesting that you said that, heartcakes. I can be very enthusiastic at times and I've definitely been like that around him. He usually just puts a hand on my shoulder and tells me to calm down in an authorative, polite manner.

And I do. It's hard not to. He has a very tranquil air about him.

Still, I wonder where he's storing all of his enthusiasm.

I don't have it on the natal chart, but I do have Aries in the 12th house and my very best interpretation on this would be to be straight forward to the unknow.

Be actually able to concrete or give form to the abstract of what could have been or will be.

Don't be foggy or lost in the nebula of Neptune or his house.

Since Mars is about aggression and force, which leads to inner force as well, you will be able to see and do things that might not seems possible for others but for you does. You literally make fantasies come true!

No to mention you can see throw the fog!

I have Mars in Sag in the 12th house conjuncting Neptune and NN opposing my moon.

First and most, I am a maladaptive daydreamer.

I am courageous and can get scary when I explode in anger. Even though I am a small skinny woman, if there is a violation, I feel like I am capable of killing and dying... this has always scared me ( I am highly plutonic as well ) and people sense it in me so they choose not to mess with me... But my records are clean.. I never hit anybody.. nor insulted anyone in my life...

Mars in the 12th house causes imprisonment. Does not have to be jail. See, I was the caregiver for mom for 7 years who had dementia - she died and then I became the caregiver of my father... Most of the times, I feel like I am in jail...

Regarding sex, I am 46 and never had an orgasm during a sexual intercourse. Dry vagina... ( I only have an orgasm when I masturbate ) And I can be without sex for long periods of time... It is not that I dont like sex - I was a horny girl when I was younger and I had very capable partners.. but I can not fully surrender to th experience.. trust issues...

Also, I have always fallen for the potentials of the men in my life while ignoring the reality...

what else can I say about my Mars in the 12th... because it is conjuncting Neptune as well, people find me highly creative... I am into arts, literature and addicted to music...

and I love to dance

moon opposite mars conjunction neptune squaring Jupiter in Pisces... All my life I have smoked weed and experimented with other drugs though I was never into chemicals... But still it will be fair to say I was an escapist and maybe still I am...

Absolutly, my friend with mars in 12th becomes realy scary when she defends those she cares about, like sje EXPLODES, and shes very compassionate, maternal and protective. I have mars in virgo so i am always channeling her anger in directions that can benefit her, i am the calm down lets plan things first, shes like "no lets go there now and deal with it at the spot"

Her mars is in 12th, so i think she is not aware of her reactions often when shes mad, while mine for example is in 2nd and when i react i have to calculate my moves so i benefit at the end, she in contrast does not calculate when angry atall
