Hi all,I wanted to share some information about Egyptian Astrological sunsigns. Back before Greeks started spreading their Astrology and influencing the Egyptians, The Egyptians used a much different zodiac that wasn't like the zodiac that loosely corresponds with the 12 months of the year. Astrology is very relative according to the culture. The year was divided into 12 months, each of which was then divided into 3 periods of 10 days. The ancestry of decan astrology is still used in contemporary popular astrology. Their oldest representation can be found in the grave of the 5th dynasty (around 2000 BC).
The birth of Egyptian astrology Foreseeing the date the Nile overflowed was important for the Egyptians. They noticed that the floods started when the fixed star of Sirius appeared on the eastern horizon at the same time as the sun (known as the ‘heliacal rising’ of Sirius). The overflowing of the Nile meant the flooding of the river banks and the fertilisation of the earth. This is why Egyptian astrology is based on agriculture, the cycle of the seasons and vegetation. The position of the sun The only star that really fascinated the Egyptians was the sun, because of its regular cycle. The great priests of Heliopolis, an ancient sacred city, taught that the sun god Re appeared in different positions according to the time of day, in parallel with the 4 ages of man. The morning sun was represented by a child, the midday sun by an adult or a falcon, the sunset by an old man and midnight by the corpse of Osiris in the underworld. Although their astronomic, esoteric and artistic techniques were without a doubt highly developed, and their beliefs in the afterlife increased knowledge, the Egyptians were certainly a long way behind the people who succeeded them in Mesopotamia in terms of knowledge, and it was thanks to these people that they had access to such knowledge. The year was divided into 12 months, each of which was then divided into 3 periods of 10 days. The ancestry of decan astrology is still used in contemporary popular astrology. Their oldest representation can be found in the grave of the 5th dynasty (around 2000 BC). The 12 Egyptian zodiac signs are: Osiris: from 1st to10th March and from 27th November to 18th December Isis: from 11 to 31st March, from 18th to 29th October and from 19th to 31st December Thot: from 1st to 19th April and from 8th to 17th November Anubis: from 9th to 27th May and from 29th June to 13th July Seth: from 28th May to 18th June and from 28th September to 2nd October Horus: from 20th April to 8th May and from 12th to 19th August Sekhmet: from 29th July to 11th August and from 30th October to 7th November Bastet: from 14th to 28th July, from 23rd to 27th September and from 3rd to 17th October Geb: from 12th to 28th February and from 20th to 31st August Nout: from 22nd to 31st January and from 8th to 22nd September Amon Ra: from 8th to 21st January and from 1st to 11th February Hapi: from 1st to 7th January, 19th to 28th June, 1st to 7th September and 18th to 26th November http://www.sofeminine.co.uk/guide/astro/f11366-egyptian-astrology.html I was born on October 29th, and so I fall under Isis. Interestingly, both my exgirlfriend,Meghann and my shaman healer,Steve born on March 30th,and so their sunsign is Isis too! My maternal grandmother was born on March 29th,and so her sunsign was Isis! I thought both me and her being born on 29th was significant, and later I found out that she and I share traits in Numerology. Now I find out that she and I share traits through having the same Egyptian sunsign.
You might find that you and somebody might be more alike than you thought even though your sunsigns seem incompatible according to tropical zodiac or sidereal zodiac or some other zodiac.
History: Wife of Osiris, she is the embodiment of the goddess-mother, protecting births, travellers and the State. In the Low Period, she became the greatest god of the Egyptian pantheon, even garnering favour outside of the country after the decline of the Egyptian civilisation. This popularity was born from the myth of Osiris, in which she brings him back to life after he fell into his brother Seth's trap in the desert. Often represented as a woman wearing a sun orb between two bull's horns, or with her own hieroglyph on her head, she holds her son Horus on her lap, born of her posthumous union with Osiris.
Character: You have been blessed with an alert mind, open to others and like to put yourself forwards. You make the most of life and are full of energy, living without prejudice or apprehension, allowing your passionate instinct to guide you towards new and enriching experiences. Your faith in humanity is unshakeable, even by betrayal, as you are fundamentally an optimistic and positive person. Your calm, confident character and generous nature would work wonders in human resources or a humanitarian career, in which you could continue to give selflessly. You fall deeply in love and know how to keep your relationship fresh and full of surprises. Your determination and ability to reconcile and mend bridges helps this, but you can sometimes be a little too idealistic and would rather wait for the perfect relationship than be surrounded by people who don't meet your high standards. You are extremely affectionate with your immediate family and your children are the apples of your eye. http://www.sofeminine.co.uk/astro/05astroegypte/05astroegypte1.asp?JourN=&MoisN= Raymond

Cool beans! In all honesty though, I didn't find the description of my sign (Anubis) to be overwhelmingly accurate. Still to this day, my most accurate alternative astrology description has come from the celtic tree signs. Shockingly on the ball! IP: Logged |

I really think that it depends on the culture I didn't find my Egyptian sunsign to be overwhelmingly accurate either
I can relate to my Celtic sunsign,Reed but it seems like Scorpio any way I think that European culture zodiacs are probably very similar
both Greek and Celtic are European Egypt is in Africa, and so a much different culture. Raymond IP: Logged |

Yes - you might be right about the different continents/cultures thing.I also read my Native American description a while ago and again it wasn't so close to the mark so that would make sense. Maybe the Celtic one suited me nicely because I am half Irish?! I'm a Chestnut I think, with a Hawthorn minor sign?! IP: Logged |

Nout is the sky goddess. She's usually depicted with her whole body bent over the earth, the moon as her navel. She may rep. the night sky. I guess I fit under Nout by the above list, but I do have Isis conjunct my sun exactly too. I associate more with her and always have. She is *the* original goddess pretty much. IP: Logged |

Bastet - apart from one or two things, it's quite accurate for me
quote: History: Goddess of love and fertility, Bastet is the ultimate symbol of femininity. Feline-looking, she is often represented as a woman with a cat's head, or in a more ferocious incarnation with a lioness's head. Her worshippers were found mainly at Bubastis. She protected the pharaohs and humanity in general.Character: You are naturally defensive, always ready to get your claws out. Vigilance is one of your strong points, but being over-cautious often prevents you from making a clear stand. You may appear weak or timid and often deny yourself opportunities, ways of interacting with new people and having new experiences. This worrying latency slows your development. You don't want for charm or magnetism, however. Your sense of diplomacy, grace and generous nature make you attractive to others. You subtly get the measure of the people you speak to and are easily able to find the right words for each person. With flair and tact in spades, you have your own way of putting yourself forwards without making waves or blowing your own trumpet, remaining modest at all times. Emotionally, you are looking for a partner who is capable of appreciating your sensitivity and answering in your own terms, someone who will complement your nature, not hurt or weaken you. You are especially attentive to your immediate family, towards whom you show unbridled love.

My egyptian sign is Horus. quote: Horus: People born under the influence of Horus possess sparkling personality, intense will, intelligence, and understanding, but can be impatient to exert influence.

Bastet FTW! It actually isn't too far off from the description of my sun sign and I can relate to some core things. In other mundane matters, I actually DO have a feline look; my eyes are cat-shaped..hahaha. IP: Logged |

http://www.astralaspects.biz/shopscr650.html I saw that link too the links that I posted were the zodiac before the Egyptians were influenced by the Greeks. but I didn't post it because it was the zodiac after the Greeks influenced the Egyptians. I am Isis under the early Egyptian zodiac, and I am Wadget under the late Egyptian zodiac.
