I LOVE John William Waterhouse, my favourite is Miranda from the Tempest, then the Lady of Shallot.

I love oil and acrylic paintings, and street art and street photography.

Moonfish, I love that space-ish pic. I think that's what you'd get when you combine air with neptune influences.

I know i've already posted this guy, but I love him. I love anything that's slightly dark and gothic.

Many strong Venuses, among our examples, naturally, but,I don't think this is common in other forms of art.

WOW I had this poster in my room from high school through college! Brings back memories

That's weird, the link worked for me when i tested it, opening it up in a new tab. You can also just google image search Miranda by John Willima Wtaerhouse.

Thanks! That first link is a multi-media sculpture done by a guy name Kris Kuksi, you should check out his website if you like his stuff.

Cintamani is a wish-fulfilling jewel within both Hindu and Buddhist traditions, equivalent to the philosopher's stone in Western alchemy.

In Buddhism it is held by the bodhisattvas, Avalokiteshvara and Ksitigarbha. It is also seen carried upon the back of the Lung ta (wind horse) which is depicted on Tibetan prayer flags. By reciting the Dharani of Cintamani, Buddhist tradition maintains that one attains the Wisdom of Buddha, able to understand the truth of the Buddha, and turn afflictions into Bodhi. It is said to allow one to see the Holy Retinue of Amitabha and assembly upon one's deathbed. In Tibetan Buddhist tradition the Chintamani is sometimes depicted as a luminous pearl and is in the possession of several of different forms of the Buddha.

this sculpture, is one of my favorite sculptures ever. the realistic details on this sculpture, just leaves me speechless.
the way his fingers dig into her "flesh" , is just wow.
"The rape of Proserpina" -1621-1622 -by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. who was only 23 when he created this sculpture.

proserpina being kidnapped by pluto. proserpina is the daughter of Ceres and Jupiter.

quote:
:"In Ancient Mythology, the goddess Venus, in order to bring love to Pluto, sent her son Amor also known as Cupid to hit Pluto with one of his arrows. Proserpina was in Sicily, at the Pergusa Lake near Enna, where she was playing with some nymphs and collecting flowers, when Pluto came out from the volcano Etna with four black horses named Orphnaeus, Aethon, Nycteus and Alastor.[4] He abducted her in order to marry her and live with her in the underworld of which he was the ruler.

Her mother Ceres, also known as Demeter, the goddess of agriculture or of the Earth, went looking for her in vain to every corner of the earth, but was not able to find anything but a small belt that was floating upon a little lake (made with the tears of the nymphs). In her desperation Ceres angrily stopped the growth of fruits and vegetables, bestowing a malediction on Sicily. Ceres refused to go back to Mount Olympus and started walking on the Earth, making a desert at every step.

Worried, Jupiter sent Mercury to order Pluto (Jupiter's brother) to free Proserpina. Pluto obeyed, but before letting her go he made her eat three pomegranate seeds, because those who have eaten the food of the dead could not return to the world of the living. This meant that she would have to live three months of each year with him, and stay the rest with her mother. This story was undoubtedly meant to illustrate the changing of the seasons: when Ceres welcomes her daughter back in the spring the earth blossoms, and when Proserpina must be returned to her husband it withers"

Thanks, it means a lot to me that you decided to join, as I am a recluse myself and always think that what I say (post) does not matter so much.

As for the thread, I blinked and it was on the other page. Great, great paintings everyone posted!

Here's another favorite of mine, Dali, Persistence of memory. It has a Capricornian feel...
