Yay! It was worth posting now. I think it's worth listening to. It was a pretty decent show. I found it kind of funny that George (the host) and most of the callers, were confused about what astrologers actually do. They had the idea that astrologers are psychics or fotune tellers and can quickly read people's future with a birthdate. I think the guests did a great job of explaining and educating people about what astrology truly is. The predictions were interesting too. Overall I think the guests were very knowledgeable. & you too. IP: Logged |

Sometimes that's a trick to get the interest of the listeners (because the avg listener is clueless about the details involved) so the host takes on the dumbed-down role to simplify it for the audience and take them on a journey step by step. *But if not* then George needs to learn to represent (!)

My thoughts exactly!I've run into the same problem though. People are like: "Oh! Youre into astrology, I'm a ______. So tell me about myself/what future will bring etc." and expect you to perform on the spot or read their future. I then explain to them how it really works. And how much more goes into it than Sun Sign. A whole chart needs to be erected to tell them anything substantial. Some seem interested. Some think it's a bunch of hoo-ey. I think more people are learning though. And people like us, and the guests on the show help to spread awareness. IP: Logged |

The more people are educated in astrology, the less money that astrologers will earn by cranking out computerized reports online.Uneducated = easier to part them from their money IP: Logged |

And that's a good thing! (more educated in astrology)It's the truly talented that should be getting paid for their work. Anyone can study for a couple of years and start a business giving readings, piecing other's interps together. I think it hurts people who've been in this field most of their lives and are truly mastering the art. IP: Logged |

I wouldn't pay a professional astrologer for a reading. It's supposed to be bad luck or bad karma or whatever to make money from it as well. But at least having a lot of dummies buying computer-generated astro reports stimulates the economy and creates job opportunities for many, not just a few.IP: Logged |

Well, if you are someone who isnt scared by things like "luck" or "karma" then it makes sense to go to someone experienced, if you ever desire a reading of any sort. If things like walking under a ladder or having a black cat cross your path, freak you out....may be best to do your own readings or hang out on LL and ridicule others... People who have payed their dues and put a lot of energy, years, time and research should be looked upon seriously by anyone interested in having a reading. All others are for entertainment purposes only. I would gladly pay a decent amount of money to someone I thought was well learned and versed in the astrological arts. Just for the art of it. Just to see them do their thing. Just to pay them for taking things so seriously and doing their best. And out of respect for what they have taken the time to learn and accomplish, even if it didnt impress me. It might not be exactly spot on, but I wouldnt go to anyone who hasnt been in the business for at lease 25 years or so. For that alone, I'd be happy to support them in what they are doing. But people who have never delved into any area of any art could not appreciate this sort of thing. They are the quickest to judge and quickest to criticize. They arent fluid enough, they expect everything to be exact and precise and someone else to tell them how it is. Anyway, point is, after looking into an astrologers level of experience, how long theyve been studying/practicing etc. I would be happy to pay certain ones to give me a reading. Even if I didnt think they did a good job, i'd still appreciate the effort from a person I felt was qualified enough in the first place.

and the whole "because it's something esoteric or spiritual" then someone shouldnt get paid money for it, has been debated in forums elsewhere, and in the world for years.Everyone will have their opinion, but if you think of money as something evil, then I guess you would think a spiritual person should not get or want any. I don't. It's a simple exchange of energy. A service is given, energy is exchanged. It's as simple as that. People need money to survive on planet earth. That's the truth. Maybe someday it will be different, but for now, we give and share, exchange, barter and pay with each other for these types of services. IP: Logged |

I've had some so-called 'pro astrologers' read my chart. Nanci Fenn online, Mystic Medusa for another online, to mention a few. Paid between $100-$250 for each. Seriously *not* worth the money. I could've done a better job myself. The one from MM was the biggest laugh. The whole thing consisted of 3 short paragraphs for $100. It's like, no sh!t...if I had seen a sample I would've balked. And it was baaasic, dummy stuff like reading what my Mars placement meant in that house, for all of half a sentence. OMG lol. And I sure as heck have done a better job reading other charts here for free. Leaves me leery of those who charge. Whether that is fortunate or not is anyone's guess. If I pay that much I expect a GESTALT interpretation. Not to be talked to like I'm an astro newbie. I also don't appreciate when they just call out all the so-called *good bits* about my chart, and blow smoke up my ass. If I ever pay again, I will mention that I know more than the avg bear IP: Logged |

And...? Perhaps this is so because there is something to it. quote: Everyone will have their opinion, but if you think of money as something evil, then I guess you would think a spiritual person should not get or want any.
They are anathema to each other. That's why monasteries exist. How many fat cats on the Street are spiritually oriented? Most aren't. Very difficult to reconcile these spheres. quote: I don't. Yes, everyone needs a share of the wealth...of which there is a fixed amount, regardless of the illusion we cast that it can be created. So it would be even better if the "energy" (limited wealth) could be distributed amongst more people providing a simple service then.Educating the masses about astrology won't make this easier for the more experienced astrologer either. Should the demand increase, the pay will remain the same in the long run because there are no barriers to entry. So what's the point? Why bother.

Well, I'm old school so I've never heard of those names.MysticMedusa sounds like a rip-off waiting to happen. I do like all of Steven Forrest's work. His wife Jodi I think is very talented as well. Celeste Teal is another that just came to mind... I think I would only get a reading from someone who has published a few decent astrology books, that I have read, and find insightful, at this point. Look to respected names....people who have been around a long time. The others will have to prove themselves over time and eventually maybe get to where these astrologers are. The first astro reading I got was from a metaphysical shop when I was 13 years old and it was a computerized report. It did help me to learn the energies of the planets once I started putting things together, but it was anterrible forecast (for a 13 year old especially) & I don't appreciate "astrologers" out there giving those types of "readings" to people either. Before shelling out big bucks, research who you are getting a reading from. That's all. IP: Logged |

LOLI think it's the earth signs in me....i take this kind of thing sort of seriously and don't want to get ripped off either. Best to go with someone who's not only made a name for themself, but proven themselve in the field. I hesitate to say more, because I might get flamed for something I am not actually saying.....i don't like words being put in my mouth or motives misconstrued. So i'll just shut up now. You catch my drift, most likely. IP: Logged |
