I can't quote the whole post, but I totaly agree with everything Lotis said, and I've been doing tons of research on synastries, including my own. Just the typical Sun/Venus and Venus/Mars is never enough. Synastric house overlay seems to tell a much bigger story.

Absolutely agree with Lotis that if the 5th, 7th AND 8th houses are affected all together by each other's planets, the reaction is imminent ( the reaction depends on the planets invloved). The draw is huge!
Also, in addition to the house overlay factor - the Vertex is such an incredible pull, if conjuncted by another's planet/s or angles .. all reasons and logic go through the window - the two people are fiercely pulled towards each other by what seems to be an invisible force ( fate). The Vertex is called the "Destiny's gate".
The only thing Lotis forgot to mention is the Node connections, which seems to be an incredibly strong factor in connecting two people together.

In a few words - [1]if two people affect each other's 5th, 7th and 8th house, [2]if Vertex conjunct tightly the other's personal planet/s or angles and if [3]Nodes conjunct tightly another's personal planets or angles, and if [4] ASC/DC or/and IC/MC is thrown in that mixture - there's no way those two won't fall deeply in love with each other.
You can pretty much forget the rest of the aspects in the synastry if the forementioned 4 factors come into play.

If you want to play a bit more - check to see how Eros ( # 433) and Amor ( #1221) asteroids fit in your synastries. Tight conjunctions is what I am looking for. Eros conjunctions are very sexual. Amor's is a pure love.

Also, go to the asteroid list on Astrodienst and find the asteroid that bears the name of the person you are interested in. Check to see if his name asteroid conjuncts an important planet or angle in your own chart. If it conjuncts your DC or Venus or Sun or Moon - your love was simply written in the stars, as the saying goes, from the day you were born. Then check your name asteroid to see where it falls in his/her chart and se how it realtes to it. Name asteroids synastry is so much fun!!!

Well, being in resonance with Saturn, does not mean you like every Capricorn.

Also, is Sun part of your rrelationshipprofile?
ruler of 5th, 7th, 8th house or posited in these houses?

it's not that i don't like every Capricorn, i simply haven't met one which i would like, no matter in what terms - friendships, relationships, etc. I even don't like my Capricorn - professor. I found it out later that he was a Cappy, so it didn't surprise me.

No, Sun is in 2nd, and it's a ruler of 12th. Saturn is in 5th, so naturally this house is ruled by Sun. [/B][/QUOTE]

Personally I think one reason of you not liking Saturnian energy, despite having Saturn in 5th house and ruling it (?), might be the square to your Sun.

It is not a solid theory yet, but I tentatively think that what we prioritize in our relationship profile has a lot to do with how it interacts with our personal planets.

For me it is Gemini, the sign in my 7th house, that i do not like.

But DD!!! Im a Gem and I think you're soooo awesomeness!! LOLOLOL!

Seriously though, Saturn rules my 5th house (which is empty) and is in my 12th house @ 25˚ Leo, 5˚ away from my 0˚ Virgo Mars.

I just changed my mind about Geminis. They are lovely!

Seriously though, I knew one male Gemini in primary school and high school; we got along greatly (after we had settled our fights in primary school), he was a friend and like a brother for many years (until he disappeared from my life).
I was really angry with him (and hurt) when he simply quit school and consequently disappeared.
Ironically his younger sister has moved to the street where I live the year I moved back here as well. LOL

But the thing is, there was never really any kind of romantic vibes between that guy and me (when we were 15 we were flirting a little with each other, but it just felt so silly, as we always were like brother and sister).

But that is really the only Gemini who ever came on my radar. And those few I met in real life, just didn`t attract my attention that much.

I think that those with aspects to my MOon on 17 aquarius, might have a better chance to attract my attention though.
You`d think those with opposition to my Sun, Mercury or even Mars and ASC would do, too. But so far, not.

Orange,

I like how you are thinking. Seems to be rather similiar to what I am looking for in synastry.
Also big YES on nodal connections.

BTW what do you consider a "tight orb"?

I definitely agree with everything said so far especially the individual natal aspects. Most of the people that I have been attracted to immediately and for the longest have a similar natal aspects in their charts Sun-Mars, Sun-Jupiter, Sun-Saturn and Venus-Uranus.

Actually I like using love asteroids for transits, sometimes it just explains why those overwhelming attractions exist. Tight conjunctions and oppositions with Valentine, Eros, Psyche and Juno.

Thanks

for Vertex, the orbs should be no more than 3 degree.
Nodal aspects orb - up to 3 degrees
Asteroids also 3 degrees

Throwing this question out there.
Someone who has a 10th house stellium in the natal chart may be strongly drawn to people who make strong contacts to her MC ???

An example of a chart;

4th cusp = 5* Cancer
5th cusp = 24* Cancer
6th cusp = 21* Leo
7th cusp = 15* Libra

So, literally;

4th ruler = Moon
5th ruler = Moon
6th ruler = Sun
7th ruler = Venus

I would say,

The ruler of the 4th is clearly the Moon.
The ruler of the 5th the Sun.
The ruler of the 6th Mercury (Virgo completely falls in the 6th)

Have you noticed an order of importance/power regarding the *RULER* in cases like this or is it just something to always play with?

Hi Mir,

I always consider the ruler of the sign actually on the cusp of a house to be of primary importance, even if that sign appears on more then one cusp. If a house has a lot of the next sign along sitting within it, I'll take a peak at the ruler of that sign as a possible secondary influence. But the sign on the cusp and it's ruler are always the most important influence.

4th ruler = Moon
5th ruler = Moon
6th ruler = Sun
7th ruler = Venus

These are correct, but since a lot of Leo falls into the 5th house, the sign Leo and the Sun may have a sub-influence on your 5th house matters. And for the 6th house, Mercury with rules your intercepted Virgo, may have a sub-influence on 6th house matters. But the Moon, Sun, and Venus will still hold the most dominating influence over the houses in question.

I agree with Ceri that having Saturn, your 5th house ruler, square your Libra Sun is a possible reason why you feel a dislike for Capricorns.

If this is the case with your primary 5th house, then there's a way to look at your secondary 5th house.

The formula goes like this... Capricorn is on the 5th house cusp, Capricorn rules the 10th house naturally, and so with Capricorn on the 5th, the 10th becomes a secondary 5th house.

How do you feel about the sign on your 10th house cusp? and the sign of it's ruler. Also, do you have any planets in the 10th that relate to your romantic taste?

You speak my language! Yes I also consider the Nodes and the Ic/Mc Axis significant, along with the Asc ruler in synastry. They are not technically 'romantic' in that they generate attraction, like the 5th, 7th, and 8th houses. But they are extremely powerful in general for any relationship. And if other more 'romantic' factors exist in the connection, having the Nodes or the Mc/Ic involved heightens the significance of it all. I also use the selection of asteroids I personally like to check when doing compatibility. Amongst these are Juno, Eros and Psyche, and well as a few others (Too many to list really).

About the Nodes…

The Nodes involve our life journey from living in the past (the South Node) to moving into the future and growing out of our old habits (the North Node). People influencing this axis feel like the are helping us along with our life path in some way. Either in a gentle and positive way (with trines and sextiles to the Nodes) or in a challenging and rough way (with squares to the Nodes). The South Node feels very familiar and confirming, like these people remind us of something deeply personal, only we can't consciously remember it... It feels like you knew them in a past life. But South Node can also hold back our development and growth when planets are conjunct it. Symbolically it's our past and our old habit patterns. The North Node feels like the unknown to us, and it can be a challenge to embrace it, but it's also exciting and exhilarating to do so. The North Node is our future and where we need to go in order to move away from the old habit patterns of the South Node. Embracing the North Node makes us feel as if we're making progress and going 'somewhere' in life. People who conjunct our North Node bring us opportunities for growth and learning in a way that deep in our hearts we know that we need. Even if that person rubs us the wrong way, usually we’re able to learn from them qualities that we need to develop within ourselves.

If had to pick between a conjunction to the North Node or to the South Node, I’d pick the North. Although, if you can get conjunctions to both from the same person this would be okay to. Most people seem to need their North Node energy more then their South Node. Both are attractive and compelling though.

I tend to see the Nodal Axis as representing our personal imbalance. Most people start out as living too much in their South Node, and then gradually embrace the North Node as their lives move along. The South Node is not completely bad though. While it does show our old restrictive habit patterns, it also shows the strengths and talents we’ve built up in previous lives. The trick is the to keep the positive side of our South Node, while also learning to embody our North Node way of being as we grow forward. I think we need to achieve BALANCE with our Node signs, rather then to just completely abandon the South Node. After all, if we completely forgot our South Node habits in favor of North Node qualities, then we’d jus have to go back and relearn our South Node again anyway. Achieving balance between our Node signs is like having the best of both worlds. For most people that involves moving away from the South Node and closer to the North Node until the right balance is achieved.

Like my South Node is 10 degrees of Aries, and while I’m not hyper aggressive like an Aries, I’m naturally inclined to always go off and do things alone. Sometimes because I feel dealing with other people is exhausting and too much of a hassle. I rather just do it myself. This is a problem for me because I have issues including others in what I do. With Libra on the North Node my mission, as it were, is to learn to be more cooperative, and inclusive in my behavior. I need to balance the independent sprit of my Aries South Node by opening op my world to others more, and being willing to put effort into relationships, and make compromises. People with Libra planets at around 10 degrees really help me do this. I really do feel like they help me to move forward into something new. However, Aries is the sign on my 5th house cusp and I really love this sign also, especially the later degrees of Aries where this sign trines my Mercury, Asc, and Venus in late Sagittarius. I’d prefer not to have synastry involving planets at around 10 degrees of Aries though, UNLESS this person also has a Libra planet opposing it, or even just a strong Libra or 7th house influence elsewhere in their chart. My Mars in Leo at precisely 10 degrees and is trine/sextile my Nodal Axis. In terms of love synastry, a guys Venus aspecting my Mars and my Nodal Axis is particularly attractive to me. Yes, even those Aries Venus ones, they’re utterly cute, but I’ve got mixed feelings about them unless they have LIBRA or the 7TH HOUSE strong in another part of their chart.

I remembered I had brainstormed with myself 2 years ago or so and found that thread again.
That was at least what I was thinking 2 years ago.

My Shortcut for synastry to find patterns:

1. Check the natals for the same or complimentary themes:
For example: You have Moon in Pisces - he has Moon conjunct Neptune
A similiar theme would be highlighted for you.

A complimentary one would be if you have Moon in Pisces and he has Sun square Neptune.
(I would only count conjunction, opposition, and close squares and trines here).

Check for planets in sign/house/aspect
Example:
Sun in Sagittarius is similiar to Sun in 9th or Sun conjunct Jupiter (not exactly the same, but similiar enough)
Planets in the 1st house are also emphasised, so in this case Jupiter in 1st house would give a similiar vibe as well

1b) Check the conditions of each 5th, 7th and 8th house (sign at cusp, ruler in sign and house, planets in these houses) and how they "fit" together

--------------------------------------

2. Check the synastry: see if natal themes are being repeated.
Let`s say in synastry his Neptune squares your Moon that would be a highlighted theme.

3. Check (in synastry) the angles and angle rulers aspecting Sun, Moon, ASC, IC, nodal axis and angle rulers (note in which houses the planets and angles/anglerulers are placed)
for romantic relationships the 7th house is of utmost importance

4. Check Venus, Mars, 5th and 8th house (for "sparks"); 7th house is more about partnership.

5. For past life interactions or deeply subconscious patterns you can check out the 12th house, planets in 12th house and the ruler of 12th house (for past lives the SN is quite revealing as well)

6. ALL waterhouses are indicative of deep emotional themes, so make a special note if in the synastric overlay significant planets (those which are involved in strong aspects) fall into or rule the waterhouses; even if the aspect is made by Saturn and Uranus, if they rule the 8th and 4th house they will ALWAYS have a strong emotional effect

notes:
° I mainly consider
1. conjunction and opposition
2. square and trine
(3. solstice points/ antiscion - but the jury is still out on these)

° there should be balance:
The connections involving 5th, 7th and 8th house seem to be of main importance for relationships. (the 4th house would be allimportant for a very deep emotional connection, but it`s not sexual; the 8th is actually both, deeply emotional and deeply sexual and plainly scary in terms of intensity and depth).

If only one person´s 5th, 7th and 8th house-connections (especially their ruler) aspect the other Sun, Moon, ASC, ruler of 1st or even 4th house, then we probably have a case of unrequited feelings at our hand (or at least a case where one feels more than the other).

If it goes both ways, good.

7. Check especially for challenging aspects of the personal planets Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, the angles and the ruler of 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th house to Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto (and maybe Chiron).
These might relate to the "big issues", most likely karmic in nature and not easy to deal with, but in the end transformative.
challenges involving
Saturn: blockages, the "brake"
Uranus: unpredictibality, sudden changes, "on and off"
Neptune: dissolving, sometimes deluding others and oneself
Pluto: (subconscious) powerplays, very forceful
Jupiter: overindulgence (though even squares of Jupiter to Moon or Venus are usually quite joyful, you just have to keep an eye on the bankaccount now and then ).

8. Check also the harmonious aspects to the outer planets:
Jupiter can be endlessly supportive and your "biggest fan". Saturn can be stabilizing and structuring (which is needed in a relationship as well - commitment!).
Uranus can be liberating, inspiring and electrifying, giving you completely new ideas.
Neptune can be very compassionate, and loving in an allencompassing, unconditional sense (though Neptune`s love is more spiritual than personal, which often is the problem in a Venus-Neptune-aspect.)
Pluto can be intense and "rebuilding" you from the inside, baring your soul so you can strip away everything that is unreal, that is not "your truth". (it demands a bit of courage though).

9. Check for conjunctions to the nodal axis, South Node and North Node.
If there are only conjunctions to the SN without some to the NN, the connection might be passing away, you might have outlived its sell-date. (not my words, I read that in a book by Blashke and also in one by Hall).
if there are also conjunctions to the NN then you have a common path, no matter how long or short it will be.

I guess that´s it.
(Phew and that is only the short route to synastry).

yes, these are my preferred orbs as well. Why do you cut the orb for Vertex though? Do you do this, too, with the other angles in the chart?

Lotiswhite,

#
"Too many to list really)."
I am curious though. What is your "standard set" of asteroids to check?

"Like my South Node is 10 degrees of Aries,"
I guess that means that my Pluto on 9 Libra is conjunct your North Node.

I find it pretty enlightening as well to check the rulers of the ends of the nodal axis and see what is coming up.

my SN is on 10 Gemini conjunct DESC, with its ruler conjunct Sun in 1st house in Sag exact.

my NN is on 10 Sag exactly conjunct Neptune, with the ruler being in pisces in 3rd house exactly square my nodal axis.

Speaking of squares to the nodal axis.
I have found them to be highly relevant, though being a bit different from planetary squares.
Actually if something is square the nodal axis, it is on the midpoint of Nn and SN, and therefore a point of integration.
What that really means, I cannot really grasp yet.
I know that an astrologer calls this "skipped step" and I have found a bit on that on sasstrology as well.

It seems that this skipped step might signify a past life issue, that needs and can be resolved, and by resolving it this time around one is growing in direction of the NN.

However, I have found that it is important which planet is squaring the nodal axis in synastry.
Oftentimes an exact Venus square to the nodal axis, seems to be just as attracting as the conjunction, at the same time I have observed that Neptune conjunct SN or square the nodal axis often popped up in tragically failed relationships. At least the famous ones.

I am curious though. What is your "standard set" of asteroids to check?

Yeah, I have a standard set. Always look at the big four in general terms… Ceres, Juno, Pallas, and Vesta. The asteroids Hygiea and Iris are fairly large so I take these into consideration as well.

Then for romance I have a list of more sensually oriented asteroids. Eros, Psyche, Amor, Cupido, Aprhrodite, Valentine, Frigga, Sappho, Lust, Anteros (love returned or mutual love), Lada (happiness in marriage), Union, Unitas, Destinn, Serendip, Astarte, Lysistrata, Erato (translates into epic story, could have to do with the type of happenings we consider to be grand and momentous when in love synastry). Lovas, Lovejoy, Tantalus, Pan, Desiderata, Adorea… And more but I have huge lists and I’m way too lazy to list them all.

Then there are also tons of other asteroids that relate to concepts of harmony and devotion that I look into. Devota, Fiducia, Fedelio, Harmonia, Concordia, Amicita, and many more but I’m not going to list them all… There’s like 100 of them! (actually I haven’t counted but you get the idea).

Then there are the mythological couples, and sometimes triangles, as well as some interesting romantic ‘personality’ asteroids that I look into. Under the romantic ‘personality’ category are asteroids like Casanova, Nymphe, and Narcissus. And then the couples like the Arthur, Guinevere, and Lancelot (This triangle is one of my personal favorites), Galatea and Pygmalion, Vertex (the Vertex) and Pomona, Selena and Endymion and many more. Again I have a long list.

There are also some common place English words that I check… Like Sweet, Wild, Close, Silly, Wiles, Sparks, Talent, Champion and again, many others.

The asteroids thing is a BIG BIG topic.

Oh yes. I’m a big fan of checking rulers for pretty much everything. Planets, House Cusps, the Vertex Axis (both ends), and the Nodes. Can’t complain about the Libra Pluto conjunct my North Node. I think it’s part of our affinity.

My South Node ruler Mars in Leo in the 9th house, and North Node ruler Venus in Sagittarius in the 1st house.

Good idea. Never looked into midpoints to the Nodes but it’s definitely worth looking into.

Agreed, which planets are squared to the Nodal Axis is so important. Venus seems to look good no matter what she does. But Saturn, Neptune, or Pluto could be painful.

LOL

So many asteroids. I`d go crazy!

Or worse at some point I probably would start seeing the trees instead of the forest.

However, I definitely have my "starter set" as well, which usually includes Karma, Juno, Ceres, Pallas, Vesta, Amor, Valentine, Eros, Psyche (sometimes Cupido and Aphrodite or even Lust). also Pholus and Nessus.

I love checking for mythological pairings. But they are more an "add on" for me; I find those pertaining to ERos and Psyche to be pretty basic (and of course the BIG ones).

PALLAS is an intriguing one. Transits of Pallas to my chart or to my Pallas very reliably fall in line with "weird" spiritual experiences. I really can count on her in this regard.

"Oh yes. I’m a big fan of checking rulers for pretty much everything."
Yes, me, too.

Especially since the nodal axis as well as the Vertex axis are calculated angles, just like the main angles in the chart. Why would I treat them differently?

"I think it’s part of our affinity."
I agree.

"My South Node ruler Mars in Leo in the 9th house, and North Node ruler Venus in Sagittarius in the 1st house."

Does your South Node ruler trines my NN-Neptune on 10 Sag then?
Oh and isn`t your Venus conjunct my Mercury?
If it is it means that my South Node ruler is conjunct your North Node ruler.

I wonder how many times, in how many lives before we already sat together and talking about these things.

"Good idea. Never looked into midpoints to the Nodes but it’s definitely worth looking into."
It made much sense in my chart. The theme of Sag/Pisces/Gemini (as archetypes) really is emphasised.

SN in Gemini and the NN ruler in 3rd house
NN in Sag; SN-ruler in Sag square Jupiter
Neptune conjunct NN; NN-ruler in Pisces square Neptune; Neptune as ruler of 3rd house conjunct NN.

I guess I really need to get that spirituality- and belief/Knowledge/truth - thing right this time.

it is almost funny that asteroid Karma is in Gemini in 7th house. lol

"But Saturn, Neptune, or Pluto could be painful."
Yes. def. I once had a crush on someone, whose Pluto was squaring my nodal axis by 2 degrees and exactly squared my ASC.
After that experience I certainly was not the same anymore.

Well, his Chiron was opposed his Pluto exact and part of the package, and his Mercury on my IC was trine my ASC exact and my NN widely, opposite my Pluto.
I think that Pluto aspect could only be so important, because there were personal planets involved on both sides.

I LOVE Dragons, my little brother is one, I fell in love with a man before I met my b/f who is a Dragon also.

Also keep in mind that there is more than just the "Year" Animal.

There is the Secret Animal, True Animal, and Inner Animal. Togerther they all make up the "4 Pillars"

These all play a role in Attraction. Though the Year Animal is incredibly overexaggerated in its importance as Sun Signs are in Tropical Astrology.

To calculate your Animals, this calculator will do.

I guess how I separate them out is that I just take note of those asteroids that have strong synastry aspects with the other person and vice versa. Like if the two asteroids for a mythological couple do not aspect in synastry, then these themes won’t be important for the relationship. I guess my rule of thumb is no aspect, not significance.

I do have certain ones I always make note of whether aspecting or not. Juno, Eros, and Psyche especially, and a few of the others ones you mentioned… Valentine, Aphrodite, Cupido, Amor and Lust (out of the more ‘romantic’ ones that is).

Thanks for the tip about Pallas, I’ll keep an eye out for some type of mystical/ psychic experience next time I get a significant Pallas transit.

I’m kind of unfamiliar with Nessus and Pholus. Mind giving me your impression of these asteroids?

Could’ve happened! There’s a kindred mind connection for sure. Heck, we might even be distantly related. My mother was German, so who knows.

Yeah, my Venus is at 29 Sag a few degrees from your Sun/Merc, and my Mars is at 10 degrees exactly aspecting your Nodal Axis.

Pluto in Virgo? So he was an older man. Pluto would have trined your Cap Venus too. Chiron in the mix is interesting. I’ve noticed that it really is a sore spot but usually for the Chiron person.

My Uranus at 10 Libra btw

Astonished by the unbelievable accuracy I continually pick up from Lotis' words and well, with that ofcourse the fact that it almost doesn't leave me no choice but to abandon the suspicious thought regarding the numerous house-possibilities in which I imagine there's always *something* to base an attraction on..

It's too clear, no need for a hunt to find that something.
And no this isn't a fling, I'm too old for a fling.

quote:
In my case my 8th house usually relates to his Moon sign, and his Sun sign will usually relate to either my 5th, or 7th house. It works best if we look at our partners whole chart in terms of how they relate to our 5th, 7th, and 8th houses.

My 8th (+ 7th) ruler is Neptune and he has a Pisces-Moon.
His 8th ruler is Pluto and I have a Scorp-Moon.

Our Moons in each others 7th are in TRINE.

Both our Sun & Venus in each others 5th.

(and yes, all planets mentioned above are aspected and some very significantly or/and *to* each other~ Moon-Venus, Sun~Venus, Pluto-Moon)

quote:
My Mars in Leo at precisely 10 degrees and is trine/sextile my Nodal Axis. In terms of love synastry, a guys Venus aspecting my Mars and my Nodal Axis is particularly attractive to me. Yes, even those Aries Venus ones, they’re utterly cute, but I’ve got mixed feelings about them unless they have LIBRA or the 7TH HOUSE strong in another part of their chart.

Really funny again
His Mars exactly trine/sextile his Nodal axis and yessss my Venus pretty exact conjunct his South node (and so sextile his Mars) . and well, now I think I may be verry glad I have a strongly aspected Saturn (in 10th) .. cap is the sign of his NN

Ow btw, Venus is the ruler of my 10th now I think about it..
