I'm a virgo sun and my sister is a virgo moon and we pretty much grew up with atleast one pet in the household. She's now almost 21 and she has 2 dogs - boy and girl- who are like her children. One of them even has a doggie diaper lol (sounds crazy but the dog is only 6 months and is in the potty training process).Do you notice virgo/6th house influenced people being major pet lovers? Does anyone know why pets are associated with that sign?

i have not found this to be the case. in fact, almost all of the virgo suns and ASCs i have known (several) - even those with lots of 6th house placements - do not own a pet. they have shown themselves to be overly concerned with the 'mess' 'dirt' cleanliness of house animals, and perhaps do not want to dirty themselves by living amongst hair, poop and whatnot. virgos = very clean/fastidious and health-oriented and maybe see pets as detracting from that. not to say they don't like animals but of the many i've known none have been owners. just my experience IP: Logged |

Have you found any patterns astrology wise with people who do love pets?

I have read before that the reason pets fall under the 6th house is because some astrologers think that 6th house rules assistance in household chores and tasks. Pets like a cat can help improve house annoyances (clearing bugs and chasing mice). Dogs can guard, can be known to watch over/be loyal to an owner and can be trained to assist with household chores or help to an owner. Maybe thats where it comes from.Personally (virgo sun, planets in 6th house sag), I like cats even though I do not have any pets. IP: Logged |

Pets aren't a Virgo thing, but they ARE a 6th house matter. The 6th house deals with UNEQUAL relationships like employees/bosses, servants, care providers and pets. A person cares for their pets, but pets will never be able to reciprocate and take care of you (at least not doing things like cleaning up after you, feeding you, etc.)I've got Venus in my 6th house. I DO tend to love my cats better than people. Venus is in Pisces. My cats have "taught me" about "unconditional love". IP: Logged |

Thank you, I can see how that relates! IP: Logged |

Just curious, why wouldn't pets be a virgo thing since it technically rules the 6th house?

I've got 3 planets including my Sun in the 4th house and I'm NOTHING like a Cancer. Houses are about areas of ones life. Each sign has a "natural position" where it has rulership because the qualities of that sign are at home there. Virgo may have many qualities which someone might greatly desire in an employee or servant, but that doesn't mean that Virgos would like to BE employees or clean up after others (including pets). I suppose the difference between the signs and the houses could be thought of in a similar manner. I might have what you want, but do I want to give it to you? The difference between the two is sort of like that. IP: Logged |

6th house and 12th rule pets. 6th house is smaller domesticated animals like dogs and cats. 12th is larger ones like horses and the occasional pet elephant.Jkitty, I have all sorts of things going on in house 12 and am more Piscean like than Virgo. IP: Logged |

Yep pets are ruled by the 6th because they provide a service. In the old days pets had more tasks than just, sit around and get pet. They helped hunt, guard, farm, herd, control pests, and provide companionship. I find it interesting that some animals seem to take on the health issues of their humans too. It's as if they absorb our negative energy. Anyway, 6H rules servants and humans have been using pets for service since we began domesticating them. IP: Logged |

I have pluto in the sixth house, strays often follow me home. It's always an awkward situation so I distract them with pet food and slowly back away and ditch them...IP: Logged |

^I was just going to mention how H6 governs service, routine, and domestic care. Pets fall under all of these! If H7 is the mutual other, can we infer H6 is the ones we give more to? I don't want to say the beings "below" us but...IP: Logged |

It seems like they would be under the 4th house. Instead, they are given 6th and 12th. If it were up to me, I would put all animals that need care in house 4.IP: Logged |

Good point. Do you think everyone with an emphasized 12th house would consider themselves to be Piscean? I can relate to the planet Neptune since he's strong in my chart, but not to the sign of Pisces. Planets, signs and houses are three different things. Sure there are overlaps, but that doesn't make them interchangeable. Perhaps whether or not one relates to the sign of an emphasized house has to do with the placement of the house's ruler? Then again my 4th house ruler IS in the 4th house and I STILL don't relate to Cancer as a sign. I'm not in the least maternal. IP: Logged |

I have mercury (my chart ruler) in the 6th house. I'm a huge animal lover. In the future, I might even consider going purely vegetarian hahahaha IP: Logged |

Not sure what the deal is with house 12. I have Pisces on the cusp of house 6 and that's the house ruled by my sun sign Virgo. Could this have something to do with it? Maybe it's a combination of 12th house emphasis and Pisces on the cusp of the house ruled by the sun sign? I also have Pisces north node, another consideration, aaarg! Too much to wrap my head around... I am wondering how materialistic you are, Jkitty? I find Cancer placements to be very materialistic, even more so than earth signs. I have a cousin with sun/moon conjunct in Cancer and she has never been too maternal but she has always been interested in having enough money to buy a huge house and put lots of fine furnishings inside. Cancers seem to love houses, fine belongings and land. Maybe your fourth house is more about wanting similar in your life?

Possible depending on the Sun sign. I've got Aquarius Sun in 4th. Having a "nest" IS important to me, but not anything big, fancy or "status-y". I have a very small house by American standards, but I DID pay it off at the earliest opportunity. I don't consider myself to be materialistic. In fact, when I'm walking through a store (generally on my way to someplace else) I don't know whether to laugh or weep. We Americans have such a materialistic culture and I can't relate to it at all. I mean do people really need a "watermelon knife" and kitchen gadgets in "the latest fashion colors"? IP: Logged |

I'm very similar only I have a heavily fortified progressed 11th house with Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Uranus, Pluto, nothing in Aquarius. Haha. Maybe some people are more sensitive to signs, others, houses? I have lots of progressed planets in eleven including two very close conjunctions so maybe it's because of sheer numbers piling into this house? I have similar with natal twelfth, including sun and sun ruler inside. IP: Logged |

Traditionally, pets have helped humans with chores. Dogs watched sheep and cattle and offered protection against robbers. Cats ate rodents. These little helpers used to fit nicely in a 6th house and were Virgoans by nature. Well, that was then, and this is now. Nowadays, we have elevated pets to family status. They get their own special foods, instead of scraps from the table, they cost us money in medical and salons bills, and most of them serve no practical purposes at all, other than to delight us with their company. Therefore, I wonder if a new house and sign might be in order for pets... IP: Logged |

To add to my previous post, some people even view their pets as their children. So I would say that in the current Western world, pets should be associated with the 5th house of children and fun. IP: Logged |

I still don't see how the 12th house has anything to do with Pets. I can see how the 6th house would relate though. As I have Moon in the 6th but the ruler of my 6th is in my 4th house.IP: Logged |
